How do I go about playing the difficult mode? Is it available yet?

    Posted: 21 Aug 2021 01:36 AM PDT

    Hi

I played Lotro when it released and I had a blast. I recently tried to get into it again but I found it too easy and therefore I found it a bit boring to level. I read somewhere you can now adjust the difficulty.

How do I do this? I just download the game and join any server and I will be presented with the difficulty option? Or how does this work?

    Thanks!

Not sure if I've broken my game or...

    Posted: 21 Aug 2021 12:17 AM PDT

What, but I've been playing again after a break on an old Mac OS due to the issues with the latest updates and Mac OS systems. Haven't had any problems so far, got two characters up to around level 25. I was VIP for quite a while when I originally played on this account, but all my old characters are currently trapped between Dwarrowdelf/Bullroarer, so pretty much starting from scratch.

However, as soon as I've signed up VIP, the game no longer opens? I never had a problem before going VIP again. Could this be something to do with running it on an old Mac OS? I can't see how just signing up for VIP would make the game stop working though.

I can open the client, put in my username and password and choose the world, but then the game screen opens and it's just black.

Which professions have the most content locked behind reputation grinds?

    Posted: 20 Aug 2021 05:16 PM PDT

Many Reddit and LOTRO forum posts discuss which professions and vocations are ideal for each class and how to utilize town-based crafting alts to round out the edges when you don't have enough time to level multiple characters. I can't find any pages that consider a town-crafter's inability to access high level reputations.

If I want to heavily play one character through LOTRO's zones, deeds, and reputation grinds (while using town crafters to cover the basic recipes for other professions), which profession would eventually access the most unique or useful rep-gated recipes?

    Posted: 20 Aug 2021 01:45 PM PDT

A Journey Through Middle-Earth - Episode 14: "I fear what lies cold and dead in Helegrod..."

    Posted: 20 Aug 2021 11:37 AM PDT

"The Nazgƻl you drove off has fled the Trollshaws, he still schemes to assault Rivendell... the Dourhand Dwarf is with him."

Greetings to all fans of the fantasy genre, Middle-Earth and Lord of the Rings: Online! Or maybe you're not? Maybe you're looking to see how this game is going after 13 years? Fear no more - you've found the channel to follow!

We are a Lord of the Rings styled twitch podcast that plays through LOTRO and discuss Middle-Earth lore, music, gaming, sport and all sorts of other things! Just some blokes from NZ getting creative during quarantine.

Yesterdays episode saw the NazgĆ»l we drove off flee from the Trollshaws, but indeed he still schemes to assault Rivendell. There are whispers he has headed north-east in to the Misty Mountains. We were tasked to meet with GlĆ³in, who has a camp set up there - he told us that the goblins seem very active of late, and that he would not be surprised if the NazgĆ»l we are pursuing were the cause.

GlĆ³in, however, was given another task by the Dwarf-King Dain - to track down the Dourhands' last refuge. The scout seemed to have found it, as there were a large number of Dourhands around an old dwarf-fortress called Gabilazan.

We were tasked with finding a key to unlock the back way into the Dourhand keep. From there we were able to confront both the Nazgƻl and the Dourhand leader, Skorgrƭm, who has been our nemesis since the start of the play through! The task was indeed a great one and indeed the defeat of the Dourhands' a great boon to Durin's Folk - so Gloin sent with us his son, Gimli, to help defeat the Enemy.

In a tense ending to the Skorgrim saga, we were able to infiltrate the Dwarfish stronghold and defeat SkorgrĆm... but a fell spirit emerged from his corpse and cursed the Longbeards before vanishing...

After the defeat of Skorgrim, Gloin shared with us the dark tale of the fall of Helegrod:

"If you have a moment, allow me to tell you some of the tale of Helegrod, the ruins of which lie north of here. The tale may shed light on what the Rider seeks to accomplish, though I cannot guess what that might be. Helegrod was delved beneath the mountain of Orod Lostol; it remained the northern-most outpost of Khazad-dƻm for long years.

"Mithril was never found there, but a good many other stones and riches were. Those riches drew a dragon to Helegrod. Thorog, he was named; he slew all the dwarves and made his bed in Helegrod's treasury.

"In Khazad-dƻm, which the Elves call Moria, Durin marshalled a company of dwarves to journey to Helegrod and slay the beast. Thorog was defeated, but Durin was slain by the dragon's dying breath. He was the fifth of that name; the next, too, had a sad end, but I will not speak of that now.

"Dwarves sought to reclaim Helegrod in the years that followed, but death hung heavy over that place and they abandoned the halls and removed Helegrod's riches to Khazad-dƻm.

"I do not know what the Rider might seek to gain by taking to Helegrod. Perhaps he simply wants to fortify it, but I would wager there is more to this deed than we can see."

And thus Skorgrim Dourhand has fallen... but the Enemy has more sinister plans with that Mountain, and what lie's within.

...and that's where we continue today as we carry on with Book 5 from The Lord of the Rings: Online on today's play-through & Twitch podcast. I feel like I'm being pushed out of playing this game but I want to play it (long explanation)

    Posted: 20 Aug 2021 07:38 PM PDT

It's a bit long winded sorry but this is why I feel I'm being pushed out of the game and I felt I should say something.

I decided a long time ago that rather than subscribe I would just buy each part of the game I wanted. I started with all the areas and expansions and things just grew from there. Multiple characters, cosmetics, bags etc, a LOT of QoL items and addons. I spent a small fortune and have never regretted it as I think this is one of the most under-rated games ever created. Also, I like to play off and on and when it suits me, sometimes with long breaks, so I wanted to pay and have the game available without the need of a subscription. I felt like I had a huge game and was happy. However, recently coming back to LOTRO I'm finding it's simply not worth continuing on this basis. The content is smaller (which is absolutely understandable) but getting fairly expensive, and there is now a lot of VIP locked content. I don't expect to own it all but if I'm willing to pay a fair amount I should be able to get the majority of it for a reasonable cost which is just not the case. It makes me feel like I have half of a game and it's getting increasingly less each year. I wish I had subscribed from the start instead and I could now have access to everything. As it's becoming more unrealistic to buy what most players already have it makes me feel pushed out.

The other related issue is that it feels like the game progress is too slow and challenging without being a VIP. I'm not sure on this but I read that it's quicker to level as VIP (apologies if this is incorrect) I feel like I'm being penalised and treated like a casual F2P player in a demo version with so much limited content when I've probably spent more than if I'd subscribed for many years. I like levelling slowly so it's not a major issue but the pace now is such that I would likely never reach end level anyway.

I heard about the legendary servers a while back and this really appealed to me but then of course it's again VIP so I'm kept out.

Unfortunately, I missed that time there was the free offer on all the content areas which kind of rubs salt in the wound so I've had to buy them.

I am a casual player and this is just my feeling from playing and not based on any research so I may very well be missing something here and if so hopefully someone will put me right, but if not then for a game in it's twilight years and in need of keeping paying players, shouldn't this be addressed?

TLDR: I went F2P, paid a fortune to buy the game in parts but now it feels like it's just for VIP players and I only have half a game.

What is the current download time one can expect, to re-install the game ?

    Posted: 20 Aug 2021 11:26 AM PDT

It's been several years since last I played. At some point, probably while clearing 'clutter', of games, (no longer played, or ones that had been "sunset-ed"), from the main HD, I had deleted the game. Maybe, also at the time of deletion, thinking a re-download, would clear the 'cobwebs' from the system, that were causing the, extremely slow, up-date downloads.

Looking to return and have so many questions

    Posted: 20 Aug 2021 06:03 AM PDT

Hey all, a few years ago, around 2017, my girlfriend and I started playing this game and got to around level 35 and loved it. We had to stop because life was extremely hectic but we'd like to pick it up again.

We have our characters on Evernight and we are wondering if we should reroll for simplicity's sake or if we should just continue where we left off and try and get our bearings.

I've also seen streamers on twitch playing on the Treebeard Progression server and I'm not sure if that is something we should consider. We'd like to play with as little latency as possible, but if a large portion of the community is on these servers I think we'd be okay with it.

We're big into server community in other MMOs we play, engaging in RP when it presents itself but we don't really seek it out or get too hardcore with it, which makes me think Laurelin might be an option, however I have seen posts that imply there might be population issues? My only worry with that choice is if that server would have a community of people doing group content since that is also a focus of ours.

We plan on getting VIP and we both have around 3k lotro points saved up and have purchased a bunch of quest packs (thought I'd mention it here in case it's relevant).

Thanks and have a great day!

Has the game download gotten bigger?

    Posted: 20 Aug 2021 05:23 AM PDT

I recently tried to install LOTRO on a new laptop and found I didn't have enough space. It fit on my previous laptop, as well as my really cheap grad school laptop I played it on back when the game first came out. I'm trying to figure out what's going on. Has the download gotten bigger as the game has developed? Or is there just more crapware on PCs these days?
