    So... roleplaying

    Posted: 19 Aug 2021 06:19 AM PDT

    Hello!

Relatively new player here (started 3 months ago I believe). I started on Evernight and I've been having lots of fun just doing my quests and levelling my characters.
Though lately I've been dipping my toes into being more immersive in the way I play my character and noticed I quite like being an elf in middle earth for a while.
Granted, I solo so I've not really roleplayed with others much. But it's been fun just roleplaying on my own, having little in-character adventures, I suppose.

So I've been thinking of making a character on either Laurelin or Landroval to make it even more immersive. Don't get me wrong, suddenly seeing that a person called Fishstick got defeated by a bear gets a chuckle out of me, but it kind of breaks the immersion I sometimes seek.
I read some forum posts, read roleplay rules and guides over and over again, ... and it all seems quite daunting.

I guess my main questions are:
    - Just how seriously do the roleplayers take this? As in, am I allowed to make some mistakes while learning (and hopefully get told what I did wrong so I can learn), or will I experience another attack in IMs calling me a worthless c--- etc and get harrassed into logging out if I accidentally do something I'm not supposed to?
    - Am I supposed to know every nitty gritty detail about my character and their race from the start or is there space to learn as I go?
    - Should I be able to speak full sentences in elvish/sindarin or are some basic words enough if I decide on another elf? (like greetings)
    - Am I supposed to know the books like the silmarillion by heart or is the over all lore I know of middle earth from reading most books enough to get me started?
    - On questing: how does this generally work? Can I just do the quests on my own as my character like I've been doing or is there an etiquette for that?

+ Do you have any advice for me when I start out roleplaying on the RP servers? I'm experienced in entirely written roleplay so I know at least basic etiquette, but I've never done it in an mmorpg.

Also, the question that keeps popping up but I will ask yet again:
Laurelin or Landroval; which has the most pleasant community for a starter you'd say?

Sorry for the many questions. I just want to do this right from the start so I don't ruin someones roleplaying as I know it sucks.

Thank you and have a great day!
