[SSG Official] LOTRO Update 31.1 Release Notes (Wednesday, December 8th)

    What else is in expansions?

    Posted: 08 Dec 2021 12:31 AM PST

So with the big sale that ended 8 days ago I managed to get enough TP to get Moria, Mirkwood, and the Isengard expansion. Is there anything else I should be expecting to have access to/have other than the quests and stuff? I don't want to miss out on things I didn't realize I have by simply not knowing.

Please tell me I'm wrong but...

    Posted: 07 Dec 2021 07:59 AM PST

    Hiya.

Am an old player that unfortunately stopped when my Kin fell apart in Mordor. We had a good run, I guess? :) (SoA to Mordor was a long, long time.)

I was poking around and I know, to my dismay, that buying the newest expansion does nothing for the ones previously. So as an Up-To-Mordor owner, I'm looking at the very least:

    $40 for Minas Morgul

$20 for War of the Three Peaks

    $40 for Gundabad

So a minimum of $100 to get 'caught up' and I will, because if I start playing, I'll at least want to get to current content, that's how I do it.

So I shouldn't have missed the black Friday sales, is what I've heard (I didn't even think about looking then, spending too much money on trying to cheer too many people up for the holidays).

Last time I logged in I had 800 or so points, I'm going to press X to doubt that will help me.

Basically, do they have a Christmas sale or a winter sale? Or am I waiting another year? I don't really recall when they did sales in the past because my Kin and myself would just auto-purchase an expansion when it came along. Thanks for any info.

Do low-level dungeons pop in this game?

    Posted: 08 Dec 2021 03:02 AM PST

Will I be able to do 5-man dungeon content while leveling up or do low-level dungeons just not pop at all in this game like in some others? Unfortunately, LOTRO is one of those old school games that still has pure dps classes, does playing such a class make it significantly more difficult to make dungeon queues pop for you?

Also, do low-level dungeons actually have a modicum amount of challenge to them or can you just mindlessly rush through them in 15 minutes?

Game Minimizes After Logging In And Won't Restore or Maximize

    Posted: 07 Dec 2021 03:44 PM PST

    Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to play LOTRO again after years away. I installed the game and can log in, but once I select a server and click Play, the game minimizes to the taskbar and will not maximize so I can play. If I click on it, then it maximizes to a black screen for a second and then immediately goes back to minimized. I think it might be a resolution issue as I can see the screen change sizes as it's loading. I've tried repairing, using the 32-bit client instead of the 64, and logging into other servers but with no luck.

Does anyone know of a fix? Or a way to change the resolution outside of the game (in case it is a resolution issue)? I'm on Windows 10.

    Thanks

    Yellow Champion

    Posted: 07 Dec 2021 02:17 PM PST

Hello, what is now currently the weapon of the champion? I am leaning towards two-handed weapons, but I am not sure.

Champion is also played on yellow or red again?

    End game gear

    Posted: 07 Dec 2021 10:57 AM PST

So I recently hit 140 and I was curious if there is gear worth grinding for right now? Rep gear? Token gear? Geode pocket item? I crit crafted the Gundabad heavy armor set for myself but is there anything else better? This is my first time having a max level toon so it's all new to me.

Best Alt for a Tinker Man Lore-master Main?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2021 08:01 AM PST

I'm a Lv35 Tinker Lore-master (just started playing LOTRO in October) about to finish up the first 5 or so areas this month, and VIP'ed for a month to catch the last few expansions from the LOTROQUESTS2021 promo code. I'd like to establish my alt during my VIP month so it also gains the residual VIP bonuses.

My question is what Vocation/Class would best support my Tinker Lore-master Main?

My initial idea was Historian (possibly Elf Champion) because it can Farm food for Tinker's Cook, and can use Prospected metals to make swords (which will become relevant to me very soon), and also make potions and stuff. I also considered Explorer for the free Light Armor, but I think Food+Potions+Swords > Armor+Wood.

Is there a better option? Does the Class/Race matter that much for a non-combat support role? Opinions welcome.

    Having trouble resetting my password

    Posted: 07 Dec 2021 06:32 PM PST

So, I haven't played for months, do not remember my password. So I try and reset it but I am not getting the email at all. Waited for an hour and nothing, see that it mentions something in faqs about Chrome being weird, so I have also tried from Microsoft edge, downloaded Firefox as it is listed and tried from there, still not getting a single email. All my other emails from this game and DDO come through, so I don't under why this is happening, and I don't see anything in faqs other than it saying not to use chrome

    Wanting to play lotro again!

    Posted: 07 Dec 2021 10:22 AM PST

Hi everyone šŸ‘‹ currently looking into laptops that can run lotro and do some basic video editing. I played constantly for months at uni back in 2010-2014 but I see a lot has changed since then after reading a few threads here. I'm looking to start from scratch again and just wanted to see if you have any pointers on server recommendations/any huge changes to the game since I last played! Thanks in advance šŸ˜ŠšŸ˜Š

Crafting Request - Doomfold Tailor (Evernight)

    Posted: 07 Dec 2021 06:16 AM PST

Sorry if this is not the place for this sort of post, but I cant find any sort of crafting reddit/forum that isn't from a few years back now!

I am looking to make a cosmetic outfit for one of my new characters, and I need some medium armor for it. My crafting is woefully behind my level, so I cant make any of this stuff, but if someone could, that would be amazing. I am happy to compensate in gold if that's possible? I've searched the AH and the relevant crafting items listed on the wiki aren't available..

    Heavy Hauberk of the Doomfold

    Flexible Leggings of the Doomfold

    Dextrous Gages of the Doomfold

Woven Silk Cloak of the Doomfold

    Lithe Boots of the Doomfold

    Fine Camail of the Doomfold

Would anyone be able to help out? Sorry if this isn't the right place at all & I'll delete if needed, I'm just not sure what the etiquette for crafting requests is on LOTRO compared to other MMO's :)

    Returning player advice

    Posted: 07 Dec 2021 03:35 AM PST

    Good day to you all!

I have greatly enjoyed playing LOTRO in the past. I played numerous characters, with the highest reaching around level ~75 I think. Eventually I stopped playing, due to a decrease in available time. I also got the feeling that the game was going downhill somewhat (I think it was around the time when SSG took over), as well as its community (quantitatively, not qualitatively). I tried returning a few times for short whiles, but I never stuck with it. It felt too empty, and only made me miss the old days.

Now, I am starting a new job in January, and with all the leave days I had left I suddenly have a good amount of free time the coming month. As you can guess, the urge to explore Middle-earth once more hit me. After some googling I found that the game is still relatively alive (especially for such an old game), and thus I am re-downloading it right now.

So now the question is, where do I start? I am not much of a quick leveler, and more of a slow player enjoying the scenery and the towns (which were busy back then). I used to play on the Laurelin server, and I enjoyed the RP atmosphere with all the random events happening a lot. Even simply hanging out and crafting in Bree for example was always enjoyable because of this.

But, if I start with my old character on Laurelin, I will have to continue somewhere in the mid-game. I have a feeling this will feel dreadfully empty, with almost everyone being at the level cap. Alternatively, I could start with a new character or continue one of my low-level alts. Do you think this would give me a good experience, or are the early game areas abandoned as well?

The last option to consider is to start a new character on one of the legendary servers (I don't mind paying for a subscription or anything). It's a shame to give up the RP aspect, but if it means I will be able to play with a healthy/healthier population, it's worth it. What do you think?

Thanks for your input. I am located in the Netherlands, by the way.

    Account hack

    Posted: 07 Dec 2021 08:25 AM PST

Has anybody ever had success in getting Standing Stone to refund fraudulent purchases made on hacked accounts? I have a feeling I'm going to have to get an attorney involved because they don't take any of this seriously. Are they that money hungry that they'd ignore how terrible their support is?

Launcher issues to be fixed soon.

    Posted: 06 Dec 2021 03:31 PM PST

Last week there was an update to the game launcher. The launcher now has various checks to verify everything is working and if it detects any issues it will stop you from logging in or opening the game and display an error message and an error code. This was done I suppose to give better feedback when someone contacts support with a genuine issue with the game. Unfortunately there has been bugs with this new system and several false positives will prevent some users from actually playing the game, even if everything is fine on their end.

-Several issues are as follows. Including but not limited to: -DirectX not being installed (there are executables in the game files that essentially reinstalls them that might help with this, but you might only get Dx9 as an option in game.)

    -C++ Runtimes not being installed

-Various permissions issues (running as admin should fix this)

-Unable to verify cache (clearing the Lotro folder in %appdata% might help with this)

-.NET framework not being installed (the game apparently doesn't need this but will check for it on older versions of the game)

Personally I came across this one... I might be the only one so far, but this is a false positive error/bug with the launcher "Unable to clear old PREREQ_INSTALLER_2.exe, unable to update" This is related to the C++ Runtimes check. Even if you have this, sometimes it comes up as a false positive and reinstalling the runtimes doesn't always fix it.

Most of these errors are fairly common snags that many users in the past have had trouble figuring out or dealing with as the launcher would just close without explanation or the game would simply not run.

The error message feature should help people troubleshoot better and there's many resources out there to help people with more common problems. However there has been bugs that cause false positives and essentially lock you out from playing the game even if nothing is actually wrong. If you're one of those people affected, don't panic... They are working on fixes.

If you have been affected with any of the launcher issues as a new player or after an update, perhaps commenting below might allow someone to help. Considering the resources and guides already dedicated to installing Lotro (it can be very clunky for some yet without any trouble for others) I'm sure some Google searches might also lead to some solutions.

You can also send in a ticket to support. But also consider that the team are aware of the bugs with the launcher error feature and we should expect a fix soon. Hopefully this week??

    Sources: Dude trust me bro

    -Grot

---Edit: I am working on a method to essentially bypass the error check if you know you are getting false positives. right now all I can suggest is to delete some files from the game (not .dll files) that essentially forces the game to redownload them. Once these files have been redownloaded and you get to the error message screen, changing the client from 64 to 32 bit (or vice versa) seems to skip the error check and allows you to log in and play.

Alternatively, any way to essentially reset the launcher configurations might also work. This method is not always going to work and it's still a bit of a headscratcher figuring out the best way of going about it.
