When you feel lost as a newly returned player, try making an alt Posted: 06 Nov 2021 04:53 AM PDT When I returned to lotro in the level 70 range, I found my character had all these old quests and items in my inventory and it just felt really overwhelming. I didn't know what to do or how to progress or where to level or how to get back to where I was, ect... But then I just started a new character in a new slot of the same class and played for like an hour or two. Suddenly it was all clicking. Within a few hours, I was back on my main and I felt comfortable in combat again, and could figure out what my character needed to do next to progress. Don't delete your old character of course, but if you've got a character slot free, play a low level for a while nice and fresh and it will remind you of what you loved about lotro in years past. Plus, you'll probably be playing through a starting zone that has been revamped and improved since the last time you played. [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Nov 2021 04:12 PM PDT My wife and I are planning on playing. I haven't played an mmrpg in forever and my wife played just a smidgen and has almost no experience. We don't mind spending some money if needed. What server should we join? Any recommendations? [link] [comments]
Balance and progression speed at mid levels (~20-70) is broken, let's fix it! Posted: 07 Nov 2021 01:37 AM PST Hello, I have played 10+ characters at these levels, tried bringing multiple friends to the game, joined kinships focused on mid-level content, as well as watched some streamers doing mid-level content and I have identified these very big problems with the balance and progression speed:
-> monsters die extremely fast. Their hp pool is so low that in most classes, one usually doesn't need to use more than 3 skills to kill a monster, and how much fun is that? This problem is even further emphasized when playing in a group of friends. Your group basically just runs through the landscape and kills everything it encounters within less than 1 second. This is a big problem, because how does one hook his/her friends up to playing this game, when all they do is to run around the map and do nothing? In a group of friends, melee classes can't even reach the target before it's dead. To sum it up, landscape content provides no challenge for players and this is a problem for the longevity of the game, as it discourages new players from playing the game. 2) Progression speed is way too fast - Another problem closely tied to the previous one: -> When you level up too fast, you don't get to enjoy the locations and its content as much as you could and a lot of the content one doesn't get to enjoy at all. Non-scaling instances are becoming irrelevant, even though they are an amazing piece of content - talking of Angmar and Moria instances for example. Why should someone (a non-diehard low-lvl player) bother to do these instances and raids when he/she outlevels those instances before he/she even obtains all the gear from it. For example if I choose to fully complete Lone-lands, I'm at level ~35. If I want to do Evendim now, half of the content in there is already outleveled for me. Not to mention that another location that was also supposed to be for levels 20-30 - North Downs - ended up completely unused. Yes I know stone of the tortoise exists - and it is somewhat acceptable to use it for raids&instances. However when it comes to quests, it completely ruins the whole point of doing them in the first place - to receive XP and progress with your account. ------------------ SOLUTIONS -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok, so problems have been identified, now how to deal with them? Thankfully, the solution to these problems is very simple and very easy to apply:
-> flat out buff the monster HP by around 25-35%. This will make them last a bit longer, especially when a bigger number of them amass - at which point a little challenging fight will occur. 2) Progression speed is way too fast -> reduce the XP gained from monsters and quests by around 20-30%. This will enable players to fully enjoy the areas without having to reach out for the tortoise stone, which in turn negates the enjoinment of progression. -> for VIP accounts, instead of automatically applying a +100% XP boost upon login-in, give them a tome with 100% XP boost. This would give the VIP player to choose whether he/she wants to lvl up fast or slow. And what's more, you could make it so that the OPTIONAL XP boost gives a player the same monstrous double XP as he/she would get nowadays. These solutions are very easy to apply (literally just change the numbers and you're done) and they provide with these amazing benefits for the game: -> landscape content has an adequate level of challenge for both solo and group players, new players are happy and want to play this game more and more. -> players can enjoy areas to its (almost) full extent without outlevelling them -> players who would like to progress the game fast are encouraged to purchase VIP to rush through the areas -> those who want to use other VIP benefits but progress the game at a slower pace are not discouraged from purchasing VIP All in all: a very easy fix, more and happier players for the game, more money for the company. WIN-WIN-WIN. Some more things I'd like to add: - Treebeard exists - yes, I know. However this doesn't solve the problem at all, because new players don't know about Treebeard and it is behind a significant paywall - why on earth would someone decide to pay $15 a month to try out a game he/she doesn't enjoy in its f2p state? In addition to that, once you reach the level cap, which you still do pretty quick, there's almost nothing to do. - yes, at mid levels, you can run instances and scale them to t2 to make them harder - the problem is though, t2 instances are way too difficult for a group of casual players. One needs at least a decently coordinated group with proper classes to handle some of the t2 instances at mid levels. You need a mini, bear and a good tank to take on those instances, because the monsters in there are KOIng players with an ease, and this leaves only 3 slots for random other dps classes to join. I'm not saying t2 instances should be changed, just that they're not the solution for the "game is way too easy at mid levels" problem. I have posted this same post on the lotro forum and the link to the thread is here: https://www.lotro.com/forums/showthread.php?690415-Balance-and-progression-speed-at-mid-levels-(-20-70)-is-broken-let-s-fix-it!&p=8104578#post8104578-is-broken-let-s-fix-it!&p=8104578#post8104578) [link] [comments]

Premium regions in the Bingo Boffin questline? Posted: 06 Nov 2021 07:52 AM PDT I recently started playing LOTRO again. I have no premium regions unlocked. I wanna know if those are necessary to progress in the Bingo Boffin sidequest because I wanna get the pets. Thank you. [link] [comments]

Leveling character level only OR level virtues same time? Posted: 06 Nov 2021 06:34 AM PDT Im at Great river 75 level and wondering should I just focus leveling char and ignore virtues? Explorer deeds are easy but those slayer deeds are really time sink and takes fun out of game so im not sure what to do. [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Nov 2021 08:37 AM PDT Hey guys, a friend of mine is a archer and is Lv 26. He didn't absolve the first (Lv 15) class Quest and now the second one don't appear. He finished the first class quest now and even leveled up the next, because we thought the level up would trigger the quest, but the instructor still has no quest. Do you guys have any idea what we miss or what could fix the problem. Have a good one. [link] [comments]
Returning Player Zone/Skip Question Posted: 06 Nov 2021 09:44 AM PDT Hi there, I play lotro since 2008 but with longer breaks in between. Lately I really wanted to return to Middle Earth and startet a new alt (I didnt feel like playing my old Characters between lvl 95 and 120). Currently I'm lvl 62 and having a great time. Now my question: I love the areas until level 75. But I don't really like Rohan; Gondor Regions feel way to long and I hated Mordor! So I was wondering: is there a "shortcut" to get from level ~80 to 120? I was thinking warg-pens... but that would be an insane amount of runs shudders. Boosting (Valar) is an option ofc, but I would rather not do it. Are there some newer zones I could use? And would I miss important things (like I remember trait-points gated behind some Minas Tirith quests..)? A related question: are there regions you avoid / love? Have a nice weekend ;-) [link] [comments]
[LP Farming] Slayer Deed Accelerator question Posted: 06 Nov 2021 05:45 AM PDT I'm a new player who's following this LP Farming Guide to farm some LP before i can decide a main character to play with. While i realized the guides say they're using 1hour 30minutes slayer deed accelerators, i'm only getting a 30minute one. I met an Elf Hunter during one of my farms which he had the 90minute slayer accelerator. He told me he bought vip once 3 years ago which makes his account a premium account, and have been getting 90minute slayer deeds on every single new character instead of the 30minute ones F2P players get. I've searched around and found nothing that confirms this, can anyone confirm this?[link] [comments] |
