    New player questions

    Posted: 25 Sep 2021 06:58 PM PDT

Hi , I'm downloading right now the game on Steam, never played the game before but I love lord of the rings.

-What is the difference between the game on steam or downloading it from the official game website ?

-I read a year old article about a graphics upgrade for the game and also a release for next gen consoles, is there any recent news about that ?

-how much money I have to spend to get all content ?

-are there Raids and dungeons in this game like most mmorpgs ?

    Thanks.

Differences between 'expansions', 'expansion quests', and 'quest packs'?

    Posted: 26 Sep 2021 12:17 AM PDT

Context: I just wrote a lengthy reply to someone who was frustrated/confused with the expansions and expansion quests. I just thought I'd share what I wrote here too. Also, correct me if I was wrong about the details. šŸ™Œ

    My reply is as follows:

    - - -

Don't quote me on this but I did some checking and here's what I saw. (Wall of text ahead.)

    -

    As it seems:

'quest packs' operationally refer to all non-expansion (unlockable) content. The in-game store names are quest packs, expansion quests, and expansions, and there is no crossover of content between them.

'expansion quests' and 'expansions' are pretty much the same, except:

'expansion quests' (which are on sale currently) only include the quests + instanced content if indicated.

'expansions' contain quests, instanced content, plus extra stuff like races, slots, cosmetics, etc.

*expansion quests do not have "expansion" versions. (They used to, but not anymore.)

The "expansions" in the "Expansion Trove" on the website market don't seem to have any difference in content from the 'expansions' and 'expansion quests' in the in-game store. They just have a few differences in the details mentioned in their descriptions.

Price-wise: the 'expansion quests' on sale right now for 99 LP are much cheaper than getting the "Expansion Trove" for real money. (Outside of sales, the Trove is the best priced bundle for getting the included expansions.)

    -

The convoluted monetization of content is a known issue which *fingers crossed* are going to get continually addressed. As far as I know, they started cleaning it up earlier this year with the Expansion Trove bundle and I hope that they introduce more easy ways to get all content.

    -

As was mentioned. all 'quest packs' are free right now via the coupon. 'expansion quests' are on sale for 99 LP. 'expansions' (which currently refer to the last two expansions released) are not included in the coupon nor the sale.

They probably need to name them better to be more clear. lol

Do I have to buy expansions in order?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2021 05:55 PM PDT

I have an interesting conundrum. I bought LOTRO a decade ago on Steam and only decided this weekend to start playing. I'm having fun, but my original purchase came with 500 of the store coins. This means I can buy 5 of the 6 discounted expansions without spending $$$.

    My question is:

Do I buy the first 5? Are there any more important uses of coin? I'm not far enough into the game to feel confident spending $(outside of the $ I evidently spent in days gone by).

Started an Elf Lore-Master, and the game is obviously dated but I'm having a good time!

Crash on the first loading after the client (Steam version)

    Posted: 26 Sep 2021 02:09 AM PDT

I played once, but just that time worked very well and everything was fine, but after that, the game always crashes on the first loading screen, before the char select, I can't find any solution to this problem, if anyone can help me I'll be thankful.

    • My specs:

    i3-2120 3.30GHz

    4GB RAM

    Intel HD Graphics 2000 - DirectX 9.0/10.0

    • Versions and updates:

    Windows 10 Pro - 20H2

    Steam - 2.10.91.91

LOTRO - Updated (Can't find the version, but I'm pretty sure is up to date)

(I didn't find any crash log to post here)

New player looking to try out the game. Have questions

    Posted: 25 Sep 2021 06:19 PM PDT

Hello, thinking of trying LOTRO because of the amazing deal (and because the launcher has been sitting on my desktop untouched for almost 2 years now) and because I'm looking for a slow, fun adventure. Just had a few questions

    1. Which is the best server for NA. Looking for a more casual/RP focused experience.
    2. How is the base game levelling experience as a solo player.
    3. How much content is included with the coupon. Should I buy the expansions now or is it a long journey until I get there
    4. What is the chronological order (story wise) of all the DLC/expansions
    5. Any general new player tips you can give me?
    6. Do people still run old group content, or is everyone at the latest expansions content?

Thanks in advance for your answers

Is there any PvE associated with Monster Play? Are there any items that can be unlocked via this mode for my main character? Or is it strictly PvP content?

    Which server should I pick?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2021 09:23 PM PDT

I am a returning player. I used to have a lot of fun playing in Laurelin but I'm not sure if it's that active anymore.

I'm looking to do some role play and participate in RP events especially. I would like a large active community. The more the merrier!

    Which server would you recommend?

Existing DDO players - if you get an error creating a LOTRO account with the same email as your already existing DDO account, try to use a different email for LOTRO

    Posted: 25 Sep 2021 05:55 AM PDT

With the event for the quest pack unlocks, I finally decided to unlock the free stuff for LOTRO too, after doing it for DDO a year ago. I tried to log in with my DDO username and password, but that obviously didn't work, you need to set up a different account for LOTRO. However, when entering the same username and email address as my already existing DDO account, the email address was always highlighted as erroneous. Only when I entered a different one could I create my new LOTRO account. To be safe I used a different username too, but I don't think that is a requirement.

The quest coupon code LOTROQUESTS2021 can be redeemed as soon as you log into the game. By clicking the "Get points and account upgrades" button (the one with the big gold coin at top right), the store will open in your browser. It somehow appeared already logged in for me. There you can click on the redeem code menu, and paste in LOTROQUESTS2021, unlocking a lot of quest packs. On the left side in the Account/Expansions submenu a lot of expansions will be listed for only 99 "coins". Those coins can be purchased with real money if you wish, but such small amounts should be safely made just by casually playing the game for a month and completing milestones.

Also as a DDO veteran I caught on fast to limit the full screen resolution to 1080, due to the fixed pixelsize of many UI elements. On my native 1440 most UI elements were too small.

Cannot get the store to load...

    Posted: 25 Sep 2021 04:36 PM PDT

... as per title. Have tried a fresh install, not using the steam version either. Have tried disabling tracking protection on my browser, zerotier etc. Disabled adguard etc too. Tried using external store.

I just get a grey background in the window. Just want to unlock the content... this is infuriating.

Why i cant get into LOTRO, but really want to

    Posted: 25 Sep 2021 09:35 AM PDT

I love the IP. Lord of the rings is a really nice story. The videos are my top movies.

Also like the game, but what really kills the game for me and i seems to quit the game, is there is no LFD system. I cant queue for dungeons.

They do have a LFG system, but its just not good enough. Really hope they add a LFD in the future

Question about the current state of warden in tank and dps.

    Posted: 25 Sep 2021 02:54 AM PDT

As title says, what's the current state of warden compared to other classes in these respective roles.

I stopped playing quite a while ago but i was an experienced warden before i left, coming back i'm hoping that warden tank is viable again as for me it was the most enjoyable tank to play.

    Cheers

    Expansions?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2021 11:01 AM PDT

    Tl;dr are expansions free now?

Hey, I'm still thinking about getting into the game more seriously. Today I noticed (both here and in the launcher) that there's a coupon code for expansion quest packs, and it mentioned also having quest packs for expansions on sale.

While browsing that I have noticed there are no expansions in the store. Only quest packs, War of three peaks expansion and Minas Morgul expansion.

So what does it mean? Does it mean everyone has access to Rohan and Moria and stuff? What's with all the change suddenly?

    Leveling in lotro

    Posted: 25 Sep 2021 02:28 PM PDT

What's the usual leveling routine for lotro? I mean I can find zones by level myself but I mean general knowledge.

    So far I know:

    1. Grinding enemies just 1-2 levels below you yealds tiny bits of experience and is not worth the time.

    2. Questing is acceptable as long as you stay at your level or higher.

In general it looks like the game tries to enforce slow progression which is kinda problematic when you consider that there are 129 levels to go through. I've been doing quests that are like 2-3 levels above me and still only got like 2 levels during session. Any tips and insight into leveling?
