    Copying UI layouts between characters

    Posted: 24 Aug 2021 12:41 AM PDT

Back when I first played LOTRO 12 years ago, each character had a UI file in my 'Documents' folder and I could copy one I liked around and rename it.

Fast forward over a 10 year gap and on my new PC and monitor I've painstakingly set up a new UI layout - and can't find it! Anywhere! Has LOTRO changed where it's located? Is there a new, better way to clone a UI layout?

So...new to the game. Couple questions:

    Posted: 23 Aug 2021 11:35 PM PDT

I tried playing a bit ago and am just now coming back to it, so starting fresh (I have like a level 10ish Captain and a level 2-3 Guardian, so even if I pick those up, still starting from scratch). I'm in North America.

So I like healing, and more rarely tanking, and I tend to like having options. I'm a fan of "in case this one thing my spec can do gets nerfed/becomes meh/isn't viable, I want to make sure I have AT LEAST SOMETHING useful I can bring to a group". It's why I tend to go for classes that can play multiple roles in rigid class games, things like Paladin or Druid in WoW.

I'm also not new to MMOs, playing some on and off for years, and play FFXIV now (though kind of in a downtime and in the mood to play a more "world" focused, older school MMO right now), and I've wanted to at least get one character up in LotRO for years anyway.

So, my three big questions right now are:

    1. What should I buy in terms of quests/expansions/etc from the store? From what reading I've done, it LOOKS LIKE get one month subscription at around level 15-20 to prevent butting up too hard against the gold cap and also to allow easily getting a mount at level 20. I don't intend to level fast, but it seems you can get to level 50 doing this if you do it within a month. I'm just wondering if that's right or not, and if I take longer than a month, if I'll need to buy something else to get to 50?
    2. What class should I play? As a rule, I like ranged classes, but I tend not to play a lot of them because they can't heal in games. CASTERS can sometimes heal (and most healers are casters in terms of solo dealing damage/leveling), but LotRO also handles things like magic more sparingly than most fantasy games. I don't mind melee, though, though I tend to prefer having at least some option for ranged attacking.

I played a Paladin in WoW from late Vanilla through Mists of Pandaria, so I can do "slow and boring", as far as that goes.

Offhand, it would seem my options are Minstrel and Captain. Minstrel is listed as being difficult to play, but I'm not sure if those ratings are current or not. Rune Keeper seems to be...sub-par overall, and though a competent healer, seems to not be used for much else, and seems to be shunned even in healing due to not double dipping as a support. Captains seem to be primarily brought for tanking/support or support/dpsing rather than healing, otherwise it would seem the perfect class. Oh, and Beornings are...not available for me to play. :)

So I'm not sure which to go with at the present time. Captain seems to have the versatility and I'm unlikely to die while leveling it (which is why my main in WoW was a Paladin and not a Priest, leveling on a Priest, I died way more and it felt a lot slower, where I could level safely and easily, if not necessarily quickly, on a Paladin), allowing me the option of tanking or support, but seems like the healing isn't functional right now or something?

And Minstrel seems to be the healer of choice...but nothing else?

So yeah, figured I'd turn to you, the community to ask for help. :)

Think I'll probably play the Captain to 15-20, then try the Minstrel and see which sticks better, but I know playing the starter experience and playing the end-game experience - not to mention all the levels in between - isn't a great idea.

    3) What server? It seems like the choices are Brandywine and Arkenstone, with Brandywine being the biggest NA server, so the one I'm most likely to see people and find people to play with? Does that sound right?

    .

EDIT: OH! And like FFXIV, I hear there's an expansion coming to LotRO...soonish? Any word yet on how it's coming along and how that might change some of these considerations?

    Arkenstone lvl 83

    Posted: 23 Aug 2021 07:25 PM PDT

I'm gunna be that guy. Trying to get back into Lotro after years of MIA. I have a lvl 83 hunter and some other toons lvl 25-45. Anyway I left off in Rohan and the last dungeon runs I recall were in Mirkwood; dol guldur and warg pens... Anyway I'm curious if there are guilds that are patient enough to limp along an ole noob like myself. Im on Arkenstone, just looking to casually play every other day or so. The game brings back a ton of nostalgia, but it seems daunting to tackle alone. Any guilds yall might recommend??

Returning to the Game after so much time away...

    Posted: 23 Aug 2021 01:05 PM PDT

    Howdy y'all!

God, I haven't played LOTRO since the days when Moria was fairly knew, and the road to Rohan was just about to open. I remember the last bit of playing I did was at a roleplay event to celebrate the coming expansion, where we all gathered around and told tales of Rohan and the Rohirrim, playing songs around the fire and preparing for the exodus back east. It was an amazing experience, and as a fan of Tolkien, the world he built, and the game that I had played back then, it's something I'll never forget.

Now, about nine years after the fact, I'm dipping my toes back into the game. I know it's a little older than all the new fangled MMOs I've been enjoying, but there is something primal and familiar about returning to Middle-Earth. I hope to relive past glories and experience all new ones, maybe meet some folks and make friends along the way.

I was considering rolling up again on Landroval, since that used to be the big RP server for NA. Has that changed at all? Is there anything I should know or do before just setting off on my adventure?

    A Proposal: Character Screen Change

    Posted: 23 Aug 2021 11:20 AM PDT

    A Proposal: Character Screen Change

I often wonder if we aren't given access to more options on the character screen because the developers will feel bad for the person who wrote the "new" music or created the new character screen background.

I think however its time to put that aside and really open up the options on the character screen of Lord of the Rings online.

I feel that re-designing the character screen was a good opportunity to show more than 5 characters on the screen at once. So with my design you can see 7 characters. I also added a way to re-arrange your characters on the screen. When mousing over your character (not unlike World of Warcraft) arrows appear and you can move that new main to the top of the screen and move those old mains who are now bank alts to the bottom!

On the right side, I have added two options; classic background screen and an option for the original music. I feel that a lot of Tolkien fans are nostalgic, and this was an option I have seen asked on the forums multiple times. I also moved the "Avatar Update Visible" option to the ride side because I felt it times it is hard to read buried in the bottom of the background. Maybe a drop down can be here to show multiple music themes. Let me know what you think?

    LP Farming

    Posted: 23 Aug 2021 02:31 PM PDT

Hey guys, I'm a free to play player and I've started playing this game on January this year. I loved playing for a while before I hit level 49 and needed to buy expansion packs. I did a bit of farming at the time and got some quest packs but eventually lost interest in spending everyday farming for LP to get what I wanted. Can someone give me some tips on how to farm it faster and if possible provide some help farming the LP? I play on the Evernight server. Thanks in advance!

[LOTRO Expansion Trove] How long is going to take to be active?

    Posted: 23 Aug 2021 06:23 AM PDT

Hi guys, I've purchased this pack for a friend of mine, but it has been 1 hour already and it seems it is not active for this account. I've tried to access into it and if I open the ingame Lotro Store, I can see the expansions, included inside this packaged, are still available to be purchased for this mentioned account. Is this normal? When I've purchased this packed it didn't mention to activate it or else, so it should be automatically enabled the time of the purchase. Anybody of you has got the same issue?
