    Getting back to lotro

    Posted: 22 Nov 2020 11:51 PM PST

    Hi!

I recently rewatched all the Hobbit movies, first time since their release and started thinking about lotro, and maybe getting back into it. Checking on my email archive, I played in 2007, 2009 and 2010. I have logged thousands of hours in wow, on and off back from 2006. But only a fraction on lotro.

I mostly play solo and very irregularly, since I have 2 kids and time is very limited. I leafed through some articles and I'm thinking Warden should be a good solo class, any thoughts? Also, should I buy any of the expansions or do I just need the base game? Should I go through Steam or direct download (read some negative reviews on Steam)? Anything else I need to know to make my re-entry as smooth as possible?

I play in EU region, Finland to be more precise.

The last video of the Size Comparison Serie, the Volume III, is finally out! It has been hugely fun and interesting to set everything up, and I learned a lot about the world of LOTRO. I Hope you will enjoy and learn from it as much as I did!

    Favorite chill spots?

One of my favorite things about this game is how many areas are so beautiful and soothing. What are some of your favorite spots?

Guard or Champ for Solo Landscape

    Posted: 22 Nov 2020 04:29 PM PST

I apologize in advanced if this is against the rules. I'm just starting out and I'm just looking to do landscape content and just explore Middle Earth after randomly getting a LoTR kick. I'm looking to just run a 2h and while I know that Champ does significantly more damage; Guard just seems much more interesting with the reactive skills (from what I've read). Would I be able to do pretty much everything Landscape wise, or am I SOL?

I don't plan on doing any raiding as I don't not have the time, if that's a factor at all

A question regarding questing, and "bucketing" your quests

    Posted: 22 Nov 2020 01:41 PM PST

Hi all. Sorry if this is a duplicate, I tried to search for it, but I didn't find any answers.

I'm a new player, and I really like the world, and exploring it in game! That is probably what I love most about the game - and MMOs in general, but the world of LOTR has a special place in my heart.

What I do not enjoy is the amount of running back and forth between questing and questgiver areas. I really like it the first time, and I might even enjoy a second trip to wrap up some quest action.

Recently though, I had to run between Combe and Chetwood North no less that 4 times, in order to complete all the various quests that needed completing there. It is a long run, and it is not necessarily very easy to enjoy, since there are aggressive mobs along the road all the time, that I have to stop and kill.

I'm just wondering if this is the general quest design for the game? I made no special attempt to bucket all the quests in that area, apart from picking everything up every time I was in town. Do you really need a guide to minimize travel like this, and is there a good one? Or does it get better once we get out of the "starter areas"? I started another character before this one, and played for a while in the elf-starter area, and I had the same experience there.

I really enjoy the world, and I want to enjoy the game, but the constant running back and forth has me a bit bummed, and I end up picking something else to play. If it ends soon, I can probably power through :)

    Thanks in advance!

    Common MMO Question

    Posted: 22 Nov 2020 07:27 PM PST

I'm coming from WoW, ESO and SWTOR. I've heard and read many great things about this community. I played LOTRO when it very first released and played for a few months. Then life happened, had a few kids and never returned because I was seduced by newer flashier games (WOW was from friends). I wanted to know if getting into LOTRO is smooth and accessible? Are there enough players to group with or is it like Age of Conan where you are forced to join a guild? I'm really looking forward to getting back into it and hope the community is as good as the legends say!
