been playing LOTRO for a few weeks on linux through WINE fine until launcher stuck on "Getting in line to connect"

It started today. yesterday the game launched just fine.

overall there have been some graphical weirdness with the games water and some particle effects and some meshes rendering over the map when I open it, but really a good experience for out of the box install.

Edit: NEVERMIND. like 5 seconds after i posted this I tried logging out of the launcher and logging back in. and it got past the hangup/being stuck.

    Areas similar to Dol Dinen

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 02:53 PM PST

So as a mostly low level toons player, I`ve found Dol Dinen to be an interesting area: it`s not an instance, but it`s not populated by paper machƩ enemies either, and in fact can be fun (I expect!) if tackled by say, a six person lvl 25 group looking for a good fight. The idea would be to raze the place down and culminate the expedition with a battle royale at the big tent. Hoping to try this with my kin as an alternative to oher lvl 25 groupings like GB or fornost.

Anyways, while considering this, it made me wonder, are there other areas like this? landscape but full of fairly strong enemies where a 3 person or 6 person group can find some fun fights? say in the 30ish to 50ish lvl?

New (returning) player, looking for some advice!

    Posted: 23 Dec 2020 01:13 AM PST

Hello, I apologize if this type of post is overdone, but I have some questions that I'd like some advice on prior to really diving into the game. I used to play LOTRO back in like 2009 or so, so I'm basically new.

Most important question I have is trying to figure out what server to play on. Elsewhere, I read that Anor was a more populated server because it's a legendary server. I like the idea of seeing more people running around in the game world, but also since I haven't played the game since 2009 I don't want to miss out on any of the story from later on in the game if the expansions are time locked out. So I guess what I am asking is, is Anor the place to be, and is it worth it to play there despite not being able to play all of the expansions?

Secondly, I would like some advice on what class to play. I've rolled a few test characters and messed around with the Warden and Captain, and am considering the Champion next. So far, I think I've liked the idea of the Warden the most. The gambit system seems pretty interesting, but also worrisome if it means I am going to have to remember complex rotations just to get decent performance. Lets just say, I'm not really looking for a challenging gameplay experience. I'd like to play a class that does pretty well solo and for most content. What class would you recommend?

Lastly, are there anything like addons, UI improvements, etc? Mostly, I want to increase immersion as much as possible. I already moved the compass and bound it to a mouse button so I could easily show and hide it, as when minimaps are on I tend to spend more time looking at those vs. looking at the in-game world. I would like to be able to do things like fade the UI to be more transparent in out-of-combat situations or something like that.

Thanks for reading and thanks in advance if you have any advice for me!

    Would I like this game?

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 08:32 AM PST

Hey, I made a Reddit account to ask this so hopefully I can get some depth filled answers. I'm wondering if you think this game would be for me, I'm not a huge fan of video games anymore (although I used to be an avid gamer). I absolutely detest MMOs, I don't have tons of hours to spend on video games. However, I absolutely LOVE Lord of the Rings, all of it, with a passion. I have in the passed played Shadow of Mordor which I enjoyed but playing that game made me itch to play a game with more accurate lore and that covered a vaster expanse of Middle Earth. What from I've seen of this game it seems to be very old and somewhat stale and clunky gameplay wise. So yeah basically I'm just asking if you think I would be able to get into this game as a very passionate Tolkien fan albeit a less than half hearted gamer. Thoughts?
