    Current Meta (U 28)

    Posted: 21 Nov 2020 01:48 AM PST

As u/angrywateringcan suggested, here is a short summary of the current meta (as a separate post, not as a response, so that it might be pinned if needed).

First I'll write a short summary to each class and each trait tree. I'm using a ranking system from S to D, with S being OP and D being completely useless. I'll give every class an overall ranking and a ranking for eacht trait tree. I'll prioritize on raiding, while keeping PvE and PvMP in mind. (I "only" play 5 classes in max-lvl raids, those being Beorning, Burg, Champ, RK and Cappy, the rankings for the other classes might be a bit off.)

    • Beorning: A-TierBlue: B-Tier. Solid tank for most content, but mostly used as an offtank (if used at all). Still pretty good though. Basically unkillable in PvMP.Red: C-Tier. Good for soloplay because of decent damage and good survival. Not used for group content.Yellow: A-Tier. Great AOE-heals combined with some of the strongest debuffs and great DMG-output for a healer (upwards of 60-80k DPS).Summary: Mostly used as the second healer next to the Minstrel. Needed for every raid and by far the most OP class for PvMP. Is in a really good spot ATM.
    • Captain: S-TierBlue: B-Tier. Good healer, but only for certain content (BN for example). Would not suggest him as one of the 2 mainhealers in a raid, but can be really good in the right instances. To situational for a higher raiting though.Red: A-Tier. You're not raiding without a red cappy. Best DMG support in the game, skills like oathbreaker and banner are extremely powerful. Can also switch between LI's to either support the healers or dish out DMG himself, getting some really good numbers in both roles.Yellow: S-Tier. Best tank in the game, period. Far superior to the Guardian in almost every aspect. Can be skilled in so many different ways, he has an answer for basically every boss. Go yellow-red for DPS-Support, Yellow-Blue to be unkillable or a mixture of both, whatever your group needs. Skills like Last Stand, Shield of the Dunedain or In Harm's Way are extremely powerful, no other tank can keep up with the Captain ATM.Summary: Strongest class ATM in my opinion. Red cappy is needed for every raid and always welcome for content for fewer people. Yellow cappy is the best tank in the game. Can't go wrong with captain, even though he seems a bit OP at times.
    • Champion: A-TierBlue: C-Tier. Decent off-tank, but is basically never used for more than that (if he is even picked at all)Red: A-Tier. Awesome single-target DPS, combined with some nice utility and a sh*tton of morale. Also really fun to play. Weapon switching is mandatory to reach peak numbers though.Yellow: A-Tier. Is there anything in the game which is more fun than running into a group of 10+ adds as a yellow champ? Best AOE-DPS'er in the game, while also packing a lot of single-target DPS. Can make life a lot easier for the whole group in certain instances, while being a must-have in others.Summary: Top tier DPS-class. Red and yellow are both really strong and viable. Champ is in a really good spot ATM.
    • Guardian: C-TierBlue: B-Tier. Has suffered a lot in recent times. Even though he has recieved some great buffs in the last Update, I still only rank him as a decent tank. Great for tanking big add-groups, but other than that, the Captain does basically everything better than the Guardian. Still good in the off-tank role, but I would always prefer a Cappy as my main-tank.Red: D-Tier. Completely useless outside of questing. Never taken as a DPS'er for group content. DMG output is also extremely mediocre for single-play.Yellow: D-Tier. TBH, I have no idea how good or bad yellow guard is ATM, because I have never seen one while running group content. Can't say anything for this trait-tree. D-Tier has been picked because I think there has to be a good reason for never seeing yellow guards around.Summary: Even though he has recieved a lot of buffs recently, I still think the guard is in a bad spot. Yes, he is far better than a couple of patches ago. But for a class who can only play group-content as a tank, he needs to be stronger than he currently is to be viable again.
    • Burglar: A-TierBlue: C-Tier. Mostly used for All-In before a fight. Not really used for group-content, but can still reach decent numbers.Red: A-Tier. Great DMG-output whith a lot of utility. Can't go wrong with picking red burg, he can reach some of the highest numbers in the game.Yellow: A-Tier. Must have for every raid. Some of the strongest debuffs in the game, while still dishing out a lot of DMG.Summary: Great class with a lot of utility. Also in a really good spot ATM. Red burg is one of the best DMG-dealers, while yellow burg is a must-have for every raid.
    • Hunter: B-TierBlue: B-Tier. Great for questing and solo-content, but not used for group-content.Red: A-Tier. Top-tier DPS'er, really high numbers, but not as much utility as the other DPS-classes.Yellow: C-Tier. Good for placing traps before a fight and awesome for some really cheesy PvMP plays. Not used for serious group-content.Summary: Great DPS'er with some really good numbers, but I would still rank him lower than the other DPS-classes, since the hunter has really only one viable trait tree and doens't bring as much utility as the others (that is for group-content though, his travel skills are awesome but not really helpful inside of a raid).
    • Warden: A-TierBlue: C-Tier. Used to be god-tier for doing basically everything solo. Has lost a lot of self-heal sadly. Also pretty weak as a tank. He still has good survival, but can't really pull as much AOE-aggro as the others.Red: A-Tier. Top-tier DPS'er, can reach crazy numbers. Always a good pick.Yellow: B-Tier. Like red warden, great DPS'er with great numbers, but has sadly received a huge nerf to his utility (can't slow bosses anymore). Stil a good pick.Summary: Great DPS-class for the whole content, can't go wrong with picking a warden. Wouldn't suggest him as a tank anymore though.
    • Lore-master: B-TierBlue: C-Tier. Good for soloplay and viable in PvMP, but nothing special besides that.Red: B-Tier. Great DMG for soloplay and also for some of the easier group-content. Not used as a serious DMG-dealer though.Yellow: A-Tier. Completes the support trio of yellow burg and red cappy. A must have for every raid, brings some really great utility. Might even be the best supporter in the game.Summary: While a yellow LM is a must have for every raid and most group content, I wouldn't rank him quite as high as cappy and burg, since those two have more options when it comes to trait trees. Still, a great class that always finds a place in a raid.
    • Minstrel: S-TierBlue: A-Tier. Best healer in the game. Brings a lot of utility and a good mixture of AOE- and single-target heals.Red: C-Tier. Decent DPS for soloplay, but not used for group-content.Yellow: A-Tier. Great support class. If your group can manage with less healing, a yellow mini is a great addition to every raid.Summary: S-Tier might be a bit high for some people, but you just can't go wrong with Mini. He is by far the best healer and brings a lot of utility.
    • Runekeeper: C-TierBlue: B-Tier. Best single-target healer in the game. While he has a lot of single-target HPS, he lacks the utility of Beorning and Minstrel.Red: D-Tier. What have they done to you, my dear fire-RK? Completely useless ATM, needs some huge buffs to be viable again. He brings more utility than yellow-RK, but that fact is basically irrelevant since his DPS-numbers are just awful. Not useful until he recieves some huge buffs.Yellow: C-Tier. Good for solo content, but can't keep up with the other DPS'ers. Could do with some buffs aswell.Summary: Sadly in a pretty weak spot. DNF and his blue tree are the only things that keep him somewhat viable ATM. Needs some buffs for both red and yellow to be a decent DPS'er again.

That's my short summary of every class in U 28. Like I said, I don't play some of the classes, that's why I can't say much to some of the trait trees. If there are questions or if I got something wrong, just HMU.

    Thinking of Starting the Game

    Posted: 20 Nov 2020 07:48 PM PST

    Hello,

I'm currently looking for a new MMO to start. I played LOTRO back in 2007 and I remember it being enjoyable. I think I returned at another point as I remember playing Warden in some library dungeon when they were super tanky and healy and unkillable, and riding mounts and their combat. I've been thinking about returning but I'm having troubles convincing myself to go through with it. The first step to doing so is being motivated to make a class, but I guess I had a few questions.

I enjoy playing support, so I was thinking between Captain, Burglar, Loremaster and Minstrel. I do like the idea of debuffing more than buffing, but I always loved the support role.

Unfortunately, in more modern MMOs I'm not very good at making friends and finding groups to run with, so it's also important to me that the class is able to solo well, as I imagine I'll be playing solo most of my time. It's not that I'm anti social or anything along those lines, I just feel my personality doesn't mesh with many so I find myself running solo more than not.

Originally when the idea came to mind to return to Lotro my heart was set on Captain, but I'm not fully committed because from a roleplay perspective I dislike the idea. Captain always came off as a Paladin-esque roleplay static personality type of thing and I'm more of a in the background manipulator esque type of person.

An underdog class appeals to me the most. Classes that are considered OP or overplayed are an immediate turn off. I haven't done any research on the "rankings" or "most played class" or anything along those lines.

Difficult classes are fine, I'm a very experienced MMO player and I play like... 18 hours a day when I'm hooked in a game so I pick things up no matter how difficult they are. I should also note I am not a min/maxer. I like to do what's fun, but I also like to contribute and be the best I can be without sacrificing fun. That is a confusing statement, so a comparison to another MMO would be in WoW I would play Survival Hunter, even though I know it's the worst spec and MM and Marksman were better but I was able to compete with people who were much better specs with similar gear despite being the worst spec.

Any thoughts on the class that would appeal to me the most? It doesn't even have to be one I recommended, I was just providing information about me so hopefully someone more experienced in the game can provide their feedback. The only class thats an immediate no to me is Runekeeper.

I tried watching some videos on the classes, but all the more recent ones, respectfully, were really bad. They just read off the in game description of the classes and showed low level gameplay or showed off their animations. I considered watching older videos but there may have been reworks and such.

After a class is determined, I had some questions about the game itself.

How much money would I be looking to spend if I wanted to experience the story?

What server should I consider if I wanted to roleplay in the future?

Is the community large enough to find groups for older content?

Am I able to do older content solo, like for example I remember the Barrows Down Dungeon?

Am I able to complete the story solo and how long do you feel it is?

What are some of the bad parts about the game?

Aside from the "Good community" the youtubers boast about, what are your favorite parts of the game?

    What does end game involve?

Is the PVP community still active? I remember enjoying the idea of playing as a spider, but I don't think it was balanced at the time and spider wasn't able to do much.

    Thank you for your time!

    CURRENT META FOR EACH CLASS

    Posted: 20 Nov 2020 11:38 AM PST

Given so many updates to various classes, as a casual player, I'm finding it hard to keep up with what class (and trait) is the current meta for dps, tank, heal etc..

Therefore I was wondering whether it would be possible to create a pinned post on reddit with a short summary of what is the meta for each class (or whether the class is even relevant atm - like RKs)?

Regardless of what the moderators decide to do with this idea, I'd like to at least ask you to give me your opinions about current meta and relevancy for each class.

    Thank you very much!:)

2h dwarf class? Champ or guard

    Posted: 20 Nov 2020 09:05 PM PST

    Heya folks, brand new player.

Do either of these classes have good specs for 2handed fighting? I'm hoping to play a melee dps using a 2hander but has to be a dwarf. So either champion or guardian. From what I gather champion is more dual wielding and guardian is mostly tanking. Or am I simply out of luck with what I'm hoping to play and need to settle for something else?

Edit: I should add that seeing as I'm brand new I'm taking this very casually. Personally I'd prefer to go with a 2h guardian, but that's assuming people don't flame me for having a bad spec lol

Killing Ergoth - A Relic In Lumul-Nar - Am I doing something wrong?

    Posted: 20 Nov 2020 01:42 PM PST

I'm a L64 Bard (the instance is level 60) doing the vol 2, book 8, chapter 3 quest which involves entering Lumul-Nar in Moria, turning all the mirrors the right way so they reflect the light correctly, and eventually defeating Ergoth. I'm fine with the mirrors, but when I jump down to fight her, but she is beating me in just a few turns, even using potions and such. I tried staying out of range, but she shot me with some sort fire attack which left me with just 500 morale left.

Is there something I'm missing? I don't remember struggling with this one before, but it's been a while since I've done it, so I could be missing something important! It's just very frustrating getting all the way through Lumul-Nar, to die and revive right at the very beginning, then have to run all the way through again, only to keep getting my ass handed to me.

Thanks for any help anyone can give, even if that's just confirming I'm doing everything correct, I just need to get better with the bard!
