LotRO needs a serious Account Security Overhaul. Posted: 03 Feb 2020 02:21 PM PST Let's face it. LotRO, and its developers are VERY far behind when it comes to account security. It is abysmal and pretty much non existent. No 2 Factor Authentication, no backup codes, not even as much as security questions! As a consequence, if someone gets ahold of your username and password, your account is pretty much lost. This is simply not acceptable in 2020. In a world where other MMOs, like RuneScape, WoW, ESO, etc have somewhat decent account security, I have more confidence in my account being protected from hackers, especially when payment information can be easily obtained. What's worse is that some of the account security techniques are very easy to implement, something even a skeleton crew could achieve. These include, but are not limited to: - 2 Factor Authentication (via a third party app or email) - Verifying your email address. - Security questions - Linking your LotRO account to Steam - OR, at the very least, allowing us to change our usernames. Then, if someone gets their account hijacked, they can change it so something no one will guess, especially if it was something simple to begin with. I've read a bunch of threads which say how we will never get any of these, which I think is disappointing, baffling and very concerning. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Feb 2020 02:14 AM PST Seriously, how many "returning player with questions" threads do we have to pile up? May as well just create a megathread or something... [link] [comments] |
Can someone explain Legendary Weapons or LI stuff to me as a completely confused newbie? Posted: 03 Feb 2020 02:40 PM PST Per my title! I am working my way up (first time!) and currently level 28 or so. All I read about is legendary weapons and LI stuff. Can someone explain to me how these and maybe when these happen, and how they work? Like is there a quest at some certain level to obtain legendary weapons? And then ... somehow somewhere I put relics inside of them? And they also level with me as I go? I was reading the Wiki and it doesn't really state HOW you obtain one, or when you obtain one, unless I am missing something. Any other tips for a mid 20's newbie would also be very helpful! I am a Hunter, with VIP, I have the quad pack - and trying to work my way up to 45 or 50 or whenever it is to purchase the next expansion. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Feb 2020 01:43 PM PST hey all- many of you know but some might not that the Ettenmores have really picked up lately on Landroval. There is an amazingly helpful and welcoming monster community on one hand (their raids are T/Th/Sat at 9 pm which is obviously the time for the freeps to pile on since what's the point otherwise?) and there are large crowds of the free people fighting at those times. So anybody level 20 up can join in the foray (I think you might have to be VIP though), on either side; you are automatically scaled to 130 once there. If you are a new monster, just post something on OOC to let others know you want to be a part of the tribe and of the raid. If you are going to fight for the free people's cause and do not yet know anybody else who does, post questions to LFF or World. [link] [comments] |
How can I achieve the MAXIMUM POSSIBLE morale? Posted: 03 Feb 2020 11:48 AM PST Yo dawgs Returning to the game for a bit. Used to play like crazy and got one champ to level 100. Recently I've been hearing about higher level dude's getting morale as high as 700,000?? So I'm thinking it'd be fun to try and make a character specifically to maximize morale. Every other stat can go into the garbage can. How do I do it? I have to work the virtues of course - but what else can I do? I get the impression that Beornings (both as a class and race) get the most vitality bonuses, so I'm leaning in that direction. All that leaves is armor, weapons, and other more obscure methods. Thinking in terms of what I can accomplish before any temporary buffs are introduced. Ideas? [link] [comments] |
Tried lotro support, hopefully someone here can help please. Posted: 03 Feb 2020 05:45 PM PST downloaded Lotro via steam on the 02-02-2020, after finishing the download via the steam and launching the Lotro client I ran into error 201. I have search the forums and did the following. Disabled UAC Disabled anti virus Disabled firewall Deleted .dat files and re-download files(which put the client into a download loop on certain files, downloading the file and instantly deleting after downloading) Renaming the userprefence file in the Lord of the rings folder found in my documents Downloaded standalone client on my laptop and desktop Ran the client/.exe as administrator Downloaded direct X/.netframework and installed before redownloading Repaired the client Downloaded 64bit and 32bit version Connected and downloaded via different networks I also ran into an issue after copying .dat files into the folder that were downloaded through steam, when validating and downloading files the download would say retry and throw the error PatchClientDLL::CheckDatFiles Failed. [Unable to decrypt and deserialize the data downloaded from the server.] And Error generating hash code. I have exhausted all my options I hope this is enough information thank you. Old account, play old characters Posted: 03 Feb 2020 07:35 PM PST Hey guys. I had/have an account for LOTRO which i bought a few updates for back in 2011. It's been dormant for quite some time and i downloaded the game today to try and start playing again. I've logged into my account, can see my purchases but i can't find my old characters. I had a few ~LVL 40 and couldn't find them on any server or find a way to contact support. I'd hate to start back at the start so if you guys could help me retrieve them i'd be greatly appreciative. I'm gonna start a new char in the meantime so no rush, thanks for the help. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Feb 2020 02:21 PM PST I noticed a list of redditor kinships on the right side, there wasn't one for Brandywine. Is there a reason for this? whats the prerequisites to make it on that list? Maybe I can start one up myself? [link] [comments] |

Looking for Oceanic players in the legendary server Posted: 03 Feb 2020 07:46 AM PST Hi everyone. This is not a post asking if I should come back. I saw the angry post. I have already installed the game after taking a few months off. I want to play again on Anor but none of my friends want to come back. I live in Japan and it is easier for me to play with Oceanic players. I was in a great kinship - TABA - but I was probably removed from the roster because of inactivity. If there are any Oceanic players who are looking for someone to play with, let's talk. I have a level 60ish burglar on Anor. I will probably need to upgrade his weapons and gear. The last I remember I had a first age weapon and bag. I can't wait to see how the burglar has been buffed! I was almost exclusively in the blue line. I think my character is still going through Lothlorien, so I'm a bit behind. I'm willing to start from the beginning if there is a consistent group. Lore-masters are another favourite. See you in Anor! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Feb 2020 11:26 AM PST I summoned Akashpug and Gamzhurm with the summoning horn. They promptly showed up and refused to fight. I could not select them by any means, whether clicking, Delete key, or "Attack" on their upper left profile thingy. Firing my entire arsenal got an "Invalid target" message. Ten or fifteen minutes later, though, after I had allowed my attention to wander, all of a sudden these thugs woke up. Akashpug would have killed me if I hadn't noticed in time. There are five bosses I'm trying to defeat for this deed. The other two showed up and fought nicely when summoned. (I haven't tried Logon yet.) Is there any workaround for this, or is it my computer? A search turned up no info. [link] [comments] |
