    What is your favorite Zone?

    Posted: 13 Jan 2022 09:08 AM PST

People may disagree with me but I've always been interested in the riders of Rohan so Rohan is my favorite. I've always wished JRRT made a book from the Riders perspective.

New player here - Need help!

    Posted: 13 Jan 2022 04:29 PM PST

First, apologies if these sorts of threads pop up frequently in this sub - I'm just very interested in digging into LOTRO and I'm not quite sure where to start. I've played all sorts of different MMOs over the years; my main game was WoW, but with all the controversy I decided that it's time to quit and invest a significant amount of time (and possibly money, let's be real here) on another game. I'm by no means a Tolkien scholar, but I love games with engaging story/world-building. I doubt I'll be doing much RP, but I'm not wholly against playing on a server where RP is encouraged as long as it's a good server.

I've done a bit of research and I'm leaning towards rolling on Treebeard. I hear it's slower-paced and has an active and welcoming community. I'm willing to subscribe to the game so I can access the server, but what separates Treebeard from the other higher pop US servers? I'm a bit confused there.

My other concern has to do with microtransactions and the in-game store. I'll admit, I've debated playing LOTRO in the past but was off-put by how much money it costs overall to see all the story content. I have no problem with cosmetic microtransactions and seeing as this would be my first time playing (essentially) I don't really care about level boosts or buying high-level gear with real money either. I'm in this to play a chill game with a good story/world and a good community. It's not make-or-break, but how egregious is the in-game shop? Aside from expansions, is there anything else locked behind a paywall?

Thanks for reading, folks! I'm hoping to jump into Middle Earth soon.

    How best to experience EVERYTHING?

    Posted: 13 Jan 2022 05:00 PM PST

I'm a returning player who started back in the RoI days and played pretty consistently through Gondor. I deeply loved this game but starting work full time and having a kid really changed how much time I could spend on it. Now that Mordor is out I really want to do one final, big run through of the game and experience a much as I can, all deeds, quests, zones, instances etc. both as a way to get back into the game, and say goodbye to all the beautiful locations and wonderful stories that I may realistically never have time to return to again.

I already started a new toon on a new server and have completed Ered Luin and the Shire and a sizeable chunk of Bree. I want to stay on level as much as possible. I'm questioning this though, for one because I'm getting FOMO for people doing end game content, and because the thought of trying to explore while on level is stressing me out. Like to move forward I would need to start North Downs, then go back and start Lonelands, level up a ways and go back to ND, then back to LL etc.

So I'm curious if anyone has found a good way to go around and do everything in a playthrough using the XP disabler. Also I would consider switching to a Legendary server if people strongly recommend it, because I read you can increase the difficulty curve and you earn XP more slowly. Also, I would get to end game much quicker! How often do the Legendary servers progress? I would be wanting to join whichever one is on the lowest region now. And are they active enough to play end game content on level, or is it better to stick to a regular server?

I tried to VIP, Xsolla made that impossible

    Posted: 13 Jan 2022 06:06 PM PST

So originally I made an account back in 2014, but never really played. I decided that last week I would give the game a shot and started playing again using my original account. I ended up liking it so much that I decided I would purchase a subscription. The purchase was blocked with a 3032 erorr and I needed to contact this xsolla company about it. I tried to use credit card, paypal and amazon pay and it was all blocked.

First I submitted a ticket to ssg about the issue, but after a few days now they have not responded so I decided to see if I could contact this xsolla. I found their facebook chat and started a conversation with them. They proceeded to tell me that the account was blocked because of a purchase I tried to make in January of 2021. Of course this was impossible because I wasn't even playing the game then and I don't think I have ever played a game that uses their services. They asked me to send them a screen shot of the transaction in dispute, a screen shot of my bank account. First of all, I am not going to do that, but second of all I can't send them a screen shot because I literally don't even have a transaction on that date. They basically just told me sorry, can't help ya.

It's unfortunate, I really wanted to play this game and was ready to pay to support it, but it seems literally impossible. I even tried making a new account with a new email, still blocked.

This is literally the worst experience I have ever had with any game, I just don't understand it.

    Question about missions

    Posted: 13 Jan 2022 02:43 PM PST

I just recently began doing missions for the first time and hoping I can level an alt partly doing these quests. Are missions a good way to level an alt? I am also curious how long it may take to get to friendship or ally status. I would also like to ask if anyone finds mission quests rewarding for the time put into it and the rewards that are bartered. Thank you in advance!

Did anyone else have difficulty with quests in Celondim?

    Posted: 13 Jan 2022 08:33 PM PST

I just found the map didn't have much detail for locations I needed to go, and I had mild difficulty finding characters in the area if quests weren't descriptive enough. Such as, "this character is in Celondim" or other locations that weren't included on the map

New player question - Are tanks sought after like in WoW?

    Posted: 13 Jan 2022 07:45 AM PST

As a tank in WoW, it's much easier to find / join a group than a DPS. Is it the same thing here in LOTRO?

Cooking on Main Character and Farming on an Alt?

    Posted: 13 Jan 2022 06:30 AM PST

    Hi,

So I want to have Cooking on my main character but I will need mats for it. So I thought about making a low level character with Farming as a profession.

Will that work? Or are there any Farming recipes which are locked behind rep farms or they require a High level character?

    Thank you for answers.

So, i just found out about "Journeyman Riding" today.

In your opinion, what other QoL or vital buys are there on the LOTRO store? (i'm expecting carry-all and shared storage spaces)

Shield of the Hammerhand (from store) now character bound?

    Posted: 13 Jan 2022 01:43 AM PST

Shield of the Hammerhand (from store) now character bound?

I purchased both Shield of the Hammerhand and Token of the Hornburg in the last month sale because they were account bound, purchased them for my partner also.

Over the last 2 weeks, I've moved them both from character to character, as my attention and fun changes.

As of today, the Shield is now character bound to the last character I moved it to, and now the store description has "bound to character to the one that opens the package".

What's also inconsistent, is that the Token of the Hornburg now also reads "binds to character" in the store, but mine and partner's is still account-wide.

Neither of the items came in packages, and were account wide upon receiving. Hence why I could move them around and use them on several alts, but now only the Token is account wide. My partner's shield is also now character bound.

Another player who discussed with me, upon me inspecting them, both of theirs are still account-wide...

What's going on? Have they rolled a post-sale update that has changed some people's purchases?

EDIT: The player and others I spoke to, also purchased the items on sale as I did, theirs were not from the pre-orders or whatever.

Currently waiting from support. If anyone has experienced this, please make it known to SSG.

These screenshots I took to show my friends the sales they missed out on, you'll see that both these items were once account bound, I only now just notice that the store listings just after were changed to character-bound conditions.
