New player. How is Rune Keeper?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2021 09:35 PM PST

I'm interested in the class due to wanting to play a caster, and it's three specs seem pretty diverse. However, from the videos I've seen and what I've read so far from the past year or so, it sounds like it isn't the best option for either the damage or healer roles. Many people mention RKs damage is low and it lacks the utility/buffs that other, more common, healers can bring. Is this still the case after the most recent expansion?

Do I need to complete previous Volume in order to access next Volume?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2021 12:47 AM PST

Do I need to complete lets say example Volume 5 in order to access Black Book of Mordor?

Or complete Volume 3 to access Volume 4?

Thank you for reading this! Im little bit lost about how this Volume / epic quest chain goes because my majority of experience is from WoW and that game had pretty straight forward quest line. You start expansion and there is all the quest you need.

Starting the game with a couple of friends - is it hard to find each other right away if we create characters of different race?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2021 10:39 AM PST

Hey guys, I'm happy to be back in the game aftermore than a decade! I'm back with a couple of friends this time and I don't remember a thing. I'd like to ask you how hard is to group up with my friends if we create characters of difference race? Will it take a lot of levels/time to find each other after our starter area? Should we just roll with the same race?

    Thank you

PS. I've been reading around and seeing how this community is still probably the best among MMOs!

New player - choosing between two classes

    Posted: 30 Nov 2021 02:28 AM PST

Hi I am a new player Who is struggling to pick between two classes. The Lore Master and the Warden.

Could you explain how they differ in solo leveling as well as in over all experience? I am leaning towards Lore Master but I have heard good things about both classes.

Treebeard Server is amazing, though there are long term concerns.

    Posted: 29 Nov 2021 05:44 AM PST

I am a player who has played Lotro since launch and have capped characters on other servers, but recently I spend all my time in the wonderful Treebeard community. I have no plans to go back to live servers. Treebeard is doing a great job playing off of nostalgia and the yearning to be part of a tight community again. Recently however, I feel the shadow slipping back into the world… ahem… I mean… I have concerns that there will not be enough to keep people interested past the next release of Moria content.

I feel like now that the devs see that Shadowfax has been a failure but Treebeard a success, they need to put some minimal effort into keeping things rolling. Adjusting the difficulty settings of the instances would be a start. It seems like most Moria 6mans will be beaten comfortably by 3 or 4 players.

What are some other minimal changes the devs can make to Treebeard to keep people interested beyond this initial nostalgia for early game?

    Confused returning player: Epic battles

    Posted: 29 Nov 2021 06:10 PM PST

OK, I'm back and had a couple of epic battles.

The only thing I seem to get is merit points but I cannot find a place to spend them. Are Epic Battles obsolete by now?

OK, what's with these wights in Sari-Suma?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2021 10:40 AM PST

OK, I was trying to fiddle around in Sari-Suma earlier today and these wights are very strange. I've set the instance level to 65, and it works fine for the bears, but eventually some random frozen wight burst out and one-shot me since it's level 133 for some reason. Is this a normal or intended part of this instance, or did something go very wrong somewhere?

Thinking about trying out the game.

    Posted: 29 Nov 2021 02:00 PM PST

Never really played LOTRO and lately I've been craving an old school MMORPG, especially with some extra vacation time to use before the new year gets here. Would you recommend LOTRO at this stage of its life for someone who has never played? Would it be nigh impossible to find people to play with?

What servers would be good for someone to start on?
Are there certain classes you'd recommend or avoid for new players? I tend to not like rogue/stealth classes but other that I enjoy every other role.

    Shadowfax Server and portrait frames

    Posted: 29 Nov 2021 09:57 PM PST

    Hi all,

Does anyone know if reaching level 50 in the Shadowfax legendary server will unlock the Hope frame that is account unlocked? And/or other frames inside SHADOWFAX server?

    https://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Character_Portrait_Frames

Or are those portrait frames exclusive to Anor?

PvP gear…where to get an essence of war?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2021 08:58 PM PST

The pvp armor you barter it has a slot for an essence of war which a regular essence won't fit…I tried to google it and couldn't find anything. It says it's an essence of war slot , what is that? Where do I get them, what kind of essences can I get?

Helm's Dike Glitch or am I missing something obvious?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2021 07:07 PM PST

I've been running Helm's Dike once or twice a day for over a week, completing an overall silver seven times. Tonight I finally managed to save the Statue from destruction as well, (with the statue merit bar showing 100%), but when I completed the battle, there was no reward except for a lone box. No tag for statue in the Battle History page of the Epic Battles window. No advancement of the bars for bronze and silver towards the eventual gold. Am I missing something, or have others encountered this as well once in a blue moon? I finished the overall battle with Gamling still alive, so I cannot think what might have shorted out my win for the statue after the fact. What am I missing? Thanks in advance.

Talk of a console version again

    Posted: 29 Nov 2021 02:58 PM PST

As a returning player, who should I boost to 120?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2021 02:51 PM PST

I played lotro a lot back in Isengard and Rohan but start to fall off in helms deep and when Gondor started coming out. I'm wanting to get back into it. I purchased Minas Morgul and have a 120 boost. Which class would I benefit the most from? Or any class that would be hard to get into groups on? My main use to be minstrel but Ive been really enjoying captain and hunter.

CE Minas Morgul/Ultimate Minas Morgul Question

    Posted: 29 Nov 2021 08:29 AM PST

I purchased the CE of Minas Morgul and got a 120 Valar token and I was wondering if I went ahead and purchased the ultimate version for the same account if I would get another token or no. Thanks for answering.

** EDIT ** I went ahead and bought the Ultimate Edition after I had already purchased the CE of Minas Morgul and DID in fact get a second token of the Valar level 120.

Does the Stone of the Tortoise halt virtue experience?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2021 02:08 PM PST

Does the Stone of the Tortoise halt virtue experience? I couldn't find an answer on this anywhere.

If it doesn't halt virtue experience, would I still run into an issue where the 5 virtues that I wanted to rank up all reached their experience cap if I were still low level after completing a lot of starter area deeds?

For instance, let's say I am level 25 and I want to complete a whole lot of deeds for the Lotro Points. I put on the stone of the tortoise to do that without outleveling the quests that are coming up. Would I end up reaching the experience cap on my 5 relevant virtues before being done with the bulk of the starter zone deeds?

What future classes/races would want next?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2021 01:06 PM PST

Brawler pretty much shows that SSG isn't afraid to add new classes. New races have been a thing since Mordor (right?).

Right now this would be what i'm gunning for:

Classes: 1. A new light and medium class! Like how the rk and warden were. Maybe magic melee and unique range weapon?

    1. Wraith based? Influenced by Shadow of Mordor šŸ˜…, but Glorfined got brought back right?

    2. Knights? Mounted combat gets alot of flak, but its pretty fun for me. Maybe one whose trees are based on the different races that use them? Rohan? Gondor? Rhun?

Races: 1. Greymauls: So finished Gundabad. And yes.

    1. Rhun/haradrim?

    2. Lossoth/dunledings?

    3. Any of the dwarfish houses!

    4. Another elf sub race? Not familiar on lore so maybe an SSG oc?

how do you name your characters?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2021 03:07 AM PST

do you try to choose a name that's race/lore-appropriate, or do you choose more of a forum username type of thing, or some other system all together?

my very first character was ariadne, an elf lore-master. the name is from classical greek, and so her surname is classical greek as well, sophiste ("the most wise"). I think if I were creating her today I might have tried for a quenya or sindarin influence on the name, something like ariadwen or arianor, but I wasn't as conversant with the lore back then.

my other characters are a hobbit, kalae (classical greek, "the beautiful"); a dwarf, adelhilde (germanic, something like "noble battle maiden" iirc); a beorning, jorhilde (germanic, forget the full meaning but chose it for the hilde, battle maiden, suffix); and a high elf, kalistarien (classical greek kaliste, "the most beautiful" but with a sindarin suffix).

I've kept the classical languages influence for all of them, but tried to choose cultural influences that feel more in line with the culture of that race (e.g. germanic/norse for the dwarves and beornings, classical greek/latin for elves). the only one I really regret is my hobbit; if I could name her again, I think I'd choose something old english in origin rather than a classical greek name. I know the names I've chosen aren't strictly lore-adherent, but I've tried to pick names from cultures similar to the cultures tolkien gave each race. e.g. the elves were an ancient and sophisticated race of artists, philosophers, and so on, hence the latin and greek influence. the dwarves are like something out of the ring of the nibelung, hence germanic. ditto the beornings (and I think in-game, most beorning names are germanic in origin).
