Posted: 21 Nov 2021 07:22 AM PST So, I am trying out a pacifist style in LOTRO, and wanted to share my observations. It's a long text, I tried to structure as best as I could. Apologies if it's too long or unreadable. I do have an important question at the end for me though. I skipped the tutorial, you can toggle it in the character creation screen if I recall correctly. This avoids some kills I believe. I chose a Lore-master, maybe also because it fits with my backstory (you can RP like some kind of Radagast or Tom Bombadil, solving problems with their love of nature and by singing). I also chose Lore-master because I knew that in the introduction quests, there are some kills you need to do in order to continue, and I could let my pet do those skills. I managed okay, but was defeated several times, maybe because of inexperience but also because the light armour. I enabled my pacifism by throwing away all the keyboard shortcuts that would lead me to do direct damage (even with spells), and only having my pet under the quickest button and healing skills under the second. I kept my pet inactive, and only summoned it during epic quests or for the class deeds. I can imagine choosing a Captain is better suited because of the heavy armour and still having a pet, though the backstory would need to be different (or you don't mind it at all)... Hunter could be interesting because you'll need to travel a lot more because you can only grab a few quests in some regions, so the questing for XP gets more spread out. You could also choose for combining Prospector and Forester profession (as Explorer) to make the travelling more interesting. More on that below. I chose a Tinker and wanted to focus on Cooking, but actually I found out that the sourcing is pretty difficult, recipes are complex, and it looks like I won't make profit money wise. I even cheated a bit by supplying crops with my main Farmer, but it just makes it more chaotic. I think focusing on the Prospector profession is better, and combining it with any production profession, or with Forester. With the latter maybe it will be even more "productive" to walk around the scenery. That would make the travelling (mentioned earlier) less boring as well. Following the epic quest line after the introduction is totally impossible without killing. Many quests even have "Defeat x enemies" even as the requirement. Having a pet take care of it solves that a bit. For the "escort" quests (and some quests where you need to pick up something in an enemy area), you could go if you're 9 levels above the enemies, but sometimes those will still aggro, and no matter how strong you are they will interrupt the escort or pickup (didn't look for or use a Daze skill, I now realize). Warning: Leaving an NPC alone in the middle of an enemy camp, because you want to be so peaceful to use a weapon feels really weird. I just imagined myself being so oblivious that I just panicked out and NPC's death was not my deliberate choice.. For the other quests, filter was my friend. I approached an NPC, and if the requirement contained "defeat..", I immediately filtered it out. If it said "Collect..", I checked the text if it was mentioned I would really need to take it from the enemies, or checked the wiki. Several times I discovered I would need to kill as soon as I arrived at the area (you can see by hovering over an enemy that you'll only get something by killing). Because of the filter I used, I can check back now in my quest log (toggling "Completed tasks") which ones where without violence. I think generally, I could have a good time by just Crafting as Prospector and Forester, and "selective non violence side questing" and would just avoid the epic quests at all. So, it looks like I know what to do next time to succeed better, and I could be starting a Captain Explorer soon to retry. I do have a final question to my fellow Redditors: I chose an Elf first because I wanted to experience that intro quest line. I don't know if there are other races, or workarounds, to avoid killing at all in the introduction? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Nov 2021 02:14 AM PST I've had my account since launch. I played just this last year. Tried to log back in for the launch of the new expansion, my password was incorrect. I reset my password based on the parameters and still locked out after it says successfully reset. I found forums that said leave out special characters in your password, still does not work. I opened a ticket and no reply from support in 2 weeks. I'm starting to worry I'm going to miss out on the expansion sale, any advice? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Nov 2021 11:04 AM PST I just started playing and see a new expansion has been released, should I get it now or do I need to wait to make use of it? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Nov 2021 07:28 AM PST A quick question - is yellow guardian still in a bad place after the recent patches/changes? It used to fall off around lvl 70-80 and become inferior to red/blue in every regard, with no role in any raids. I was wondering if it was still the case. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Nov 2021 01:35 AM PST Between all the expansions currently for sale, is there any that's better to get over the others? One that may have more content overall, or is usually more expensive than others, etc etc. I don't own any expansion currently, and I'm only level 24 right now with enough LP to get one. Playing after Shadows of Angmar Posted: 21 Nov 2021 11:13 AM PST Hi there, it's exactly a week since I began playing LOTRO (Hunter, Man, Level 18 as now). [link] [comments] |
Yet another Windows 10 install post Posted: 21 Nov 2021 01:48 PM PST I've read the many many guides on how to get this up and running, but I'm crashing on launch. I think it might be only the 64-bit client as when I launch the 32-bit client it will actually start the game and ask me if I want to use DirectX 11. But once I start the 64-bit client it gets to the splash screen and then throws 3 DirectX 9C errors and crashes. Anyone have any guidance on how I can set the 64-bit client to use DirectX 11? Does anyone have an issue with female dwarves fighting in-game? Posted: 20 Nov 2021 09:51 PM PST Lately it seems to be an issue on the forums, and frankly the arguments have gotten borderline mysogonistic...so wanted to see how others here feel about it. My takes on it are this: 1. While the lore outright says they "do not go to war", we have constantly twisted or bent things to make things playable or unique. i.e hobbits playing offensive classes.
Maybe my reasons for playing the game are different, but changes like this don't bother me so much. But for old players I imagine it might be? [link] [comments] |
PVPers why do you not group together? Posted: 20 Nov 2021 08:05 PM PST Question. Every time I'm in the moors as a creep, or a freep, and I'm next to a huge group fight going on, every single one of the players are just solo and not in a group. I ask them to be in a raid together , they never reply. because why not? You can all share infamy and commendations , why would you want to be solo? Why do you people not want to be in a party lol [link] [comments] |
Posted: 20 Nov 2021 08:35 PM PST I'm new to the game and starting to really enjoy it. I have used the quest code but I'm confused as to what the difference between a quest pack for say Moria provides, compared to the expansion pack which costs 99 points at the moment? Do I need the expansion to be able to use the quests I unlocked? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 20 Nov 2021 08:15 PM PST I'm lost does anyone have any recommendations for a guide about our new Li system and those traceries, any help would be greatly appreciated? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 20 Nov 2021 02:00 PM PST I was just checking the list of available goats, and saw this, and it says available from completing Interlude: Blood of Azog. I have two chars that's done with this interlude and neither has this goat. Does anyone have an idea where to get it? [link] [comments] |
Returning Player - Can't access LOTRO store? Posted: 20 Nov 2021 02:58 PM PST I just re-downloaded the game and have been trying to get upgrades for my account since yesterday. Every time I try to open the LOTRO store I get a pop up stating something went wrong with an error code 0004-0003. I tried to google this but there doesn't seem to be any actual answer to how to fix it/what is wrong. Does anyone know how to get access to the LOTRO store around this error? Edit: I made a new account and can access the store just fine.. so its just something wrong with my account I made in 2007 apparently. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 20 Nov 2021 02:26 PM PST Browsing through the internet I have seen some old keys for lord of the rings online for sale from some reputable sites , I was just wondering if these keys still work and what ones do and dont I have heard code masters keys wont work but what other publisher/versions wont work , is there any conflict if I bought the quad pack which came with the base game editions and if I bought the higher tier editions for the items would they not work. Many thanks for all help in advance :) (PS any reputable sites you know that sell old expansions collectors editions that you know the keys would work would be great to know) [link] [comments] |
