    Welcome to /r/lotro!

This subreddit is devoted to The Lord of the Rings Online, the massively-multiplayer online role-playing game originally published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (now Daybreak Game Company) and developed by Turbine Inc. (now Standing Stone Games). Released in 2007, the game has continued to grow and develop over the years and is now the most complete digital rendition of Middle-Earth that you'll be able to find online.

    Recent Developments

There has been a flurry of activity with the game and game company recently, so this post will attempt to consolidate some information to give new or returning players a snapshot of the state of the company, the health of the game, and the path moving forward. Information is accurate and links are functional as of time of writing (Late August 2021), but as with anything on the Internet, this information is subject to change and links may die without warning.

    Acquisition by EG7

In December 2020, Daybreak Game Company was acquired by Enad Global 7 for $300 million in cash and shares, adding LotRO to their stable of live-service games. This acquisition revealed internal numbers during the December investor presentation, revealing that LotRO had a monthly active user count of 108,000 users and 41,000 members as of September 2020.

    Legendary Servers

In November 2018, a new VIP-only Legendary server was released - Anor. As with other MMOs, these servers served as a 'fresh start' for new or existing players, with content gated at Level 50 on release. The popularity of the server was so high that in response, SSG opened a second server, Ithil, to deal with the overflow of players. The population of Ithil remained among the lowest of any realms as time went on.

On June 15th, 2021, the Ithil server was closed, only allowing transfers of existing characters to other realms.

On June 30th, 2021, in response to feedback about the pacing of content on the Anor server, SSG released two new legendary servers: Treebeard and Shadowfax. Treebeard sets the XP rate of all earned experience to 40% of default (-60% reduced xp), while Shadowfax sets the xp rate to 50% increased xp. Additionally, content on the Treebeard server will unlock more slowly than normal (roughly every 5-6 months), while Shadowfax will release more quickly than normal (every 2 months or so).

    New Producer

At some time prior to May 2021, Oleg "Raninia" Brodskiy joined the SSG team and has been frequently engaged with community members via streams and interviews. Raninia's willingness to engage and discuss a wide range of topics has been broadly welcomed by the community. A number of these interviews have been collated here for reference.

A calm night in the Elderslade

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 10:55 AM PDT

Perhaps I should give it a whirl?

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 02:04 PM PDT

Hello, long time MMORPG player here. I have never really tried out lotto, but I am curious about it very much. I grew up on old school MMORPGs like text face muds and EverQuest, and I was just wondering how the play style and the community is. I am looking to pick up a new MMORPG and although I have heard both positive and negative things about the game I wanted to hear some testimonies straight from the gamers mouth. As someone who likes old school RPG mechanics and friendly helpful communities, I was wondering if this game would be a good fit. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

New Player - What's the cheapest way to get all content?

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 07:49 PM PDT

Hi :), I'd like to invest into the game but all of the different packs and everything are very confusing. What is the most efficient/cheapest way to get all of the content? Seems pretty pricey

    army of archers?

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 04:39 PM PDT

I just watched a guy run past with a army of about 15 archers following him decimating everything. Is that some sort of exploit or what the hell was going on?

Unable to get the quest "Dwelling in the Hills" to complete "The Ithilduin"

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 08:14 PM PDT

I'm stuck in this quest chain for the Ithilduin and can't seem to complete it. Previous advice given here said to complete the Dwelling in the Hills first, however, I can't even seem to start that quest. The three NPC's at this shack, Strange Man, Strange Woman and Strange Child, have no quest indicators over their heads, and refuse to interact with me at all. However, I still have two quest ring indicators on the map there. What am I missing?

I've compared my quest log to the wiki here, and I see every quest in this list as complete except for The Ithilduin itself and its subquests. Does anyone have any idea what I'm missing?

Gauging Interest In A Gladden Static Group?

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 11:14 AM PDT

Is anyone interested in joining a static group on Gladden that would group together at a scheduled time 2-3 times a week Est time in the evenings? The plan would be to start new characters so the group is well rounded and run all the group content as we level up. Ideally we could use the Stone of the Tortoise so we don't over level areas. I understand the legendary servers are ideal for this but my friend is F2P.

    theme's

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 11:30 AM PDT

So, I'm on a mission to find the best theme for my kinship home. I'm googling doing my diligence and am getting a wide variety of locations. I'm curious if any of my fellow lotro players know of a website that has detailed the locations where they can be purchased?

    Requesting a Champion /Burglar Armourer for D6

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 05:10 PM PDT

Hello. I'm putting together a D6 group to run on Mondays and/or Tuesdays EST. There are five of us presently, but we're missing one more DPS player and one crafting vocation for a full fellowship. We can't start sorting out all the details without at least six people. So if you have any interest in joining a group planning to progress from 1 to 50 and beyond together and can fill this role, let me know.

    Stat goals for ybeorning

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 09:16 AM PDT

Hey I'm "new" to the game and started my beorning journey last October. Now I've reached 130 and want to be a healer ofc.

My question is: What are the best essences/stat goals for a yellow bear? Some ppl recommend to go all on crit first and secondly on outgoing healing. Then you see bears running around with only outgoing healing essences and vitality. And then suddenly a bear with will essences appears (!?) One beorning told me to go on tactical mastery as a main stat goal. But who is right?

Looking for people on Evernight server

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 04:29 PM PDT

Would be interested in starting a static group on evernight. We would start new chars and all meet up in Bree to start levelling. we would use the stone of the tortoise to not gain exp so we could do levelled content all together during our free time after a set time we will increase the level cap. Discord would be used to organise and to talk during our adventure through middle-earth. My discord is Outwardshauny#7432

Is there a lively server where I can find/join fellowships?

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 07:43 AM PDT

I'm new to the game, got off WoW and FFXIV wasn't for me. But lotro has an awesome world that I've been loving so far. Only thing is I rarely see other players, there's maybe 4 or 5 people looking for groups at any given time, and I can't get a single person to join my own fellowship. People just talk in world chat about random stuff. So is there a server where I'll get to make some friends and enjoy the game with others as I level?

    Cheap punk is gone

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 03:05 PM PDT

With SSG removing the quad pack and helms deep from the steam store, you can no longer buy the first 5 expansions for less than 30 euro. This package also included 2 classes, character slot, 1000 LP and a few more items. Very sad. But this is the Turbine, ahem, SSG we've known for over a decade! When will MMO developers learn not to fight the customer, but make him feel welcome?

Lotro purpose (besides lore) and levelling questions

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 02:54 AM PDT

Hello guys, so first of all I want to mention that this is not a complaining post, but only a post to understand this game little bit better and also getting some tips for a guy who likes to try out different characters and doesn't like so much doing billions of clone-quests. Se let me start here!

    Server: Shadowfax
    Toon: Champion

I am about to hit mi first lvl cap in this game, I'm now at lvl 48, playing it with a friend of mine and I am so happy to do not play this game alone otherwise it would be very tough to go ahead. So far I didn't decide to go for a specific plan, doing the Epic story line and grabbing all the quests along my path. I went from Bree, to Lonelands, then Evendim, Throllshaws and now I'm in Angmar, and this area is totally full of clone-quest and is making me very tired and bored as well, but I don't care so much as I'm very close to the end. But then, all of the sudden, here the doubts coming:

What will I do once I hit the level cap?
What should I do if I want to try another Character/Characters?

I mean, Moria is about to open on Shadowfax in few days, but when I reach again the level cap there, what is the actual endgame here?

And instead, if I want to start and try out another toon, should I repeate the same quests that I've done with my main toon? There are no other ways/stuff that makes you progressing your character without doing all the same clone-quests that you find everywhere?

Don't get me wrong, I am enjoyng a lot the Epic quest line, this is the main reason why I'm playing here, and also I like to explore and being stunned by the amazing landscapes that this game offers, but doing quests like "kill 30 of this bad guy" "return to me" "now kill 60 of those" cleanse and repeat, is not for me. So what is the real purpose of lotro, besides the Story and the places?
