The beauty of Minas Tirith from an unusual angle

This birdhouse reminded me of Tom Bombadil’s house in LOTRO. Had to buy it as that’s one of my favorite locations in the game.

Which Housing neighborhood is your favorite?

    Current Meta (U 30)

    Posted: 07 Aug 2021 08:22 AM PDT

    Hi Guys

I made a post like this a while back, talking about the current meta and how usable every class / every trait tree is ATM.

I decided to update it for the current update, since there have been some massive nerfs and buffs and some changes in the meta.

I'll try to keep it short and simple. A short reminder before I start: This list is for high tier raiding, because if you just wanna run T1, every class is viable.

I'll list every trait of every class and write a short sentence, giving you my opinion in the current patch. I won't be using the S-D ranking system like last time though.

    • Blue Beorning: Good tank for easier content. Not viable for high tier raiding, since his debuffs don't stack and the yellow beorning is a must have, so two bears are not really viable.
    • Red Beorning: Good DPS, but not good enough to get a DPS-spot in a raid.
    • Yellow Beorning: Best Healer in the game. There is no serious raid without a yellow bear. Great debuffs, amazing AOE heal, a must have.

    • Blue Burglar: Not really viable. If you wanna go for max DPS, run Red Burg. If you wanna support, go yellow. Blue Burg isn't weak, but there isn't really a place for him in a raid.
    • Red Burglar: Amazing DPS class, but isn't really a must have in a raid. If you or the raid leader want, you can take one with you. But you don't have to, since other classes can fill this spot just fine.
    • Yellow Burglar: Even after his nerfs, still a must have in every raid. His debuffs are still needed for every fight, so the yellow burg still has his place.

    • Blue Captain: With the new raid, blue cappy has become somewhat viable once again. Some raids run with a blue cappy, others don't. Even if you take one, it's still a very niche trait tree which won't see much action ATM.
    • Red Captain: A core piece in every raid. Best offensive support, a must have in every raid.
    • Yellow Captain: Even though he has been nerfed like hell (and let's be honest, those nerfs were really really needed), he is still one of the best tanks in the game. IMO he's still the best tank for 3- or 6-mans. For raids, it's debatable. He can still tank everything he could before his nerfs, but needs more support and / or healing. Still a good tank though.

    • Blue Champion: Doesn't see any action / isn't needed at the moment. Only a "theoretical" tank that gets outclassed by every other tank in the game.
    • Red Champion: Great DPS class, can theoretically be used for all available content, but if you play a champ, you'll mostly be asked to play yellow ATM.
    • Yellow Champion: Best DPS class in the game, hands down. His AoE is so so important for every raid. All 3 endgame raids have at least one boss with a shitton of Adds, so you basically need to take at least 2 if not 3 champs with you for every raid.

    • Blue Guardian: Guard's back baby! Great revival of our classic Maintank. Guardian is back to being a completely viable tank for almost all content (even though he still gets outclassed by cappys for most 3- and 6-mans as mentioned above).
    • Red Guardian: Has gotten some buffs, but no one quite knows why. Has never gotten a DPS-Spot in a group and he still won't. Good for soloplay though.
    • Yellow Guardian: Hasn't been viable in a long time and still isn't ATM.

    • Blue Hunter: Great for soloplay, but not viable in group content.
    • Red Hunter: Great DPS, but his lack of utility is a problem. You can take one hunter with you for most content, but if you can fill it with a champ, you should. Besides fire phase in Remmo ID1, there isn't really a need for a red hunter.
    • Yellow Hunter: Same as yellow guardian, not viable ATM.

    • Blue Loremaster: Very niche, usable in soloplay and PVP. Not used for group content though.
    • Red Loremaster: Basically the same as blue LM.
    • Yellow Loremaster: Same as with yellow burg, the nerfs hurt the LM quite a bit, but the class remains a must have for every raid. Still the best defensive supporter in the game and you'll always get a raidspot with a yellow LM.

    • Blue Minstrel: Great healer for all content. Mini will probably never be not in the Meta.
    • Red Minstrel: Great for soloplay, not viable for raids.
    • Yellow Minstrel: Situational pick for certain raids, great supporter if your group setup can fit a yellow mini.

    • Blue Runekeeper: Great healer, has seen a resurgence, especially with all the nerfs to the debuffs in the latest patch. Great pick to ensure the safety of your group.
    • Red Runekeeper: Same as with Guardian, the RK is back! Great buffs to his fire trait tree make him a great DPS choice once again. Still kind of a situational pick though, since he can only really take the hunters spot, since Champ and Warden are still a must have. Great to see a viable DPS-RK trait tree back in the meta though.
    • Yellow Runekeeper: Decent DPS, but gets outclassed by his red trait tree. Better choice for PvP, but I'd stick to red for raiding.

    • Blue Warden: Still not really a viable tank. Seems like DPS-Warden is here to stay. Blue Warden needs a lot of updates before he can become viable again.
    • Red Warden: Great DPS class, a must have for every raid.
    • Yellow Warden: Also a great DPS class, but a bit more situational than red. Red offers more DPS, but yellow more support. Both are viable though, so pick your poison.

    thinking of boosting

    Posted: 07 Aug 2021 11:57 PM PDT

I've been trying to play this game for a while now and every time I come back to it I get turned off by the leveling process.

so I'm now thinking of buying the boost, and so my questions are

    • What do I need to know about after boosting my character (any guides out there for boosters).
    • are all features unlocked when I boost of do I need to backtrack to unlock them.
    • Do I get to access the latest expansion right away or do I need to purchase all the expansions in order to play with everyone
    • What do I need to look for in the Lotro store to achieve this (the store is overwhelming)

    Most populated/active US server?

    Posted: 07 Aug 2021 07:46 PM PDT

Coming back to the game after years of not playing and I'm curious which server has the most active players.

I apologize if this is already a thread but I didn't see it. Not too handy with reddit either lol.

    Any info is appreciated thanks!

    Beorning balancing

    Posted: 07 Aug 2021 01:18 PM PDT

I am a returning player, and I bought the beorning race/class recently. My question is do they balance out later in the game, cause right now he's still low level but he seems unstoppable.

I said no to downloading High Resolution files, how do I get them now?

    Posted: 07 Aug 2021 10:00 AM PDT

I just wanted to get in and play so I said no to downloading High Resolution files. I've got a bit more time now and want to get them.

I've ticked "Use high resolution game data" in the launcher options but it's not downloading anything for me. Is there any way that I can force it to download them?

Am I the only one who could care not about hobnanigans?

Let's talk. I love my festivals enough to run my 15 toons through them.

The player base is dwindling because LOTRO isn't really F2P

    Posted: 07 Aug 2021 08:06 PM PDT

If you can make it to level 30 with a gold cap, restricted inventory, and no mounts, you are rewarded with a paywall. You are crippled in all traits and stats from the get go. Every button has a micro transaction accompanying it. How is anyone going to be attracted to this game in the year 2021? It's killing me to come back to this game and see no one online. PvMP is dead. I've lost access to many things that I used to have access as to a premium due to server changes. There's no incentive for a new player to pick up this game given alternative f2p games, and even old players have little to return to unless they are willing to pay to play. I know I sound whiney but this game is missing a lot of the things I used to enjoy when I first played it.

edit: deflecting criticism doesn't achieve anything. this game neglicts its f2p and it shows in the player count. the best part of this game is when there are plenty of people to meet and join on quests with and telling new players just to pay for it only discourages new players. i can't buy pvmp back to life. i can't pay enjoy lower level fellowship quests. this is a problem that isn't solved by just spending more money, but by letting an opinion be heard

    Looking for a game companion

    Posted: 07 Aug 2021 05:54 AM PDT

I am an older player returning after a few years away from the game. I have been back in the game for about 4 months. My main is a lvl 41 burg and I am on Crickhollow. I would consider myself a casual player. I mostly play in the evenings from 7-9 or 10 (US central time zone) and on weekends. I had hoped to find an in-game friend but no luck. I consider myself a fairly social player and I belong to a kin but most of them are above me in level or on at different times. PM me if you'd like to meet up in-game to see if our play styles match.
