    Fresh 130, where to go?

    Posted: 17 Mar 2021 11:51 PM PDT

    Hello all,

I've just reached level 130 with my main toon while questing inside Minas Morgul (doing circle od despair quest right now).

Should I continue questing there or better go to Langfoodl and start endgame zones?

    They ruined the maps

    Posted: 17 Mar 2021 10:48 AM PDT

I really liked the maps of the old world. How they looked like a real medieval map. And how sometimes they weren't very accurate, like a real medieval map.

Now they replaced them with the autogenerated topographic ones.

I wish there was at least an option to show the old maps instead of the new ones.

How is Captain soloing these days?

    Posted: 17 Mar 2021 09:08 PM PDT

I'm a returning player who is sorely tempted by the idea of playing (and maining) a Captain. Their aesthetics really appeal to me, and I like the idea of playing red line in groups, where I can do low DPS but everyone will still love me for my amazing buffs.

However, I do enjoy solo questing as well as soloing harder content like fellowship quests or the occasional 3-man, but I'm getting mixed signals from my google-fu on those topics. Some folks say solo questing on Captains is slower and more boring than on any other class, others say it's gotten better over time and is actually quite nice now. Some folks say a Captain is up there with Beornings and Wardens at soloing group content, others say they fold like a wet paper towel when trying to go it alone.

So I'm looking for up-to-date, 2021 info on the state of Captains.

    1. Is it hard to quest solo on a Captain? Will I die a lot?
    2. Do Captains really take forever to kill things, or is that an exaggeration? At low levels, they seem perfectly fine, does that change later on?
    3. Can Captains solo group content like Beornings and Wardens can?

    Thanks! :)

    Lotro Sales

    Posted: 18 Mar 2021 12:33 AM PDT

I just redownloaded this game and I've seen they gave away all the quest packs last year and had some pretty kick ass sales for the expacs.

I see the anniversary is coming up and I cant seem to find a sale history. Is that going to be a good time to pick up some stuff? When do they usually do big sales?

    Regular hitching after update 29

    Posted: 18 Mar 2021 12:19 AM PDT

    Hey folks.

Just a quick one but I wanted to check whether anyone else has noticed significant game hitching and freezes since updating to 29?

Every 10-15 seconds the game will stutter and freeze for a few seconds completely - add in the general server lag that seems to be accepted (on Evernight) then the game is dangerously unplayable in combat.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Or has any tips how to avoid it? It was definitely worse with the new lighting from 29 enabled.

I'm running the 64-bit client otherwise the game actively crashes on me every 3-5 minutes due to the memory usage issues on the 32-bit client...

    Cheers

    Question about Expansion Trove

    Posted: 17 Mar 2021 04:15 PM PDT

I just purchased the Expansion Trove from the Standing Stone site. How do I know if the expansions are working? It is a bit confusing that there the Standing Stone site is separate from the LOTRO site. My account on the SSG site shows that it went through, though it also shows my account as Shadows of Angmar- Guest.

My character had just completed the quests in Eregion and was set to enter Moria for the first time, so I purchased the expansions. Perhaps I should have entered first so I would have something to compare it to. I am currently in The Great Delving and am able to receive quests from NPCs, though I notice that the slot for Rune Keeper is still blocked (I purchased the Warden slot earlier). I assumed it might take some time for it to go through. Anyway, I just want to make sure I am not missing something.

    Thanks in advance!

    Wildwood - free? VIP? purchase?

    Posted: 17 Mar 2021 08:24 AM PDT

I'm probably missing something obvious somewhere, but I don't see any mention of whether there is a purchase cost for Wildwood.

Normally my guess would be a region free for VIP players and LOTRO Store purchase otherwise, but last year kinda threw what I thought I knew into the fires of Mount Doom. I mean, this isn't called a "mini-expansion" or anything that I can tell, but still.

    What is it?

[The video is in Portuguese, but I want to share it with you. I believe it is assistable.] Forgive me the emossion at the end of the video, but it is my first time, and as it is very difficult, it gives me a huge pleasure when completed.

Good idea to start a Guardian character now? (March 2021)

    Posted: 17 Mar 2021 05:05 AM PDT

    Hi folks,

So after a long absence from LOTRO since 2009 (!!!), I'm finally about to return to LOTRO with 2 friends. Looks like its going to be up to me to take the role of main tank, so I was just wondering if Guardians are in a good state at the moment?

Are they viable/okay to play for most of the game? Are they still desirable in fellowships/raids? I'm not sure if we'll ever reach the endgame/LVL 130, so while that's not the main priority right now, some thoughts on that would be appreciated too!

I used to main Warden back in the day, but made a Guardian alt and it was quite fun back then.

    Thanks :)

    What to supplement quests with?

    Posted: 17 Mar 2021 07:49 PM PDT

A friend of mine and I started July of last year, but other things came up and we stopped. We're picking it back up this weekend, and if I recall we're level 37-ish.

What can we supplement our questing with that has purpose? We loosely follow the lore but we're definitely in it for the gear/skills/combat, more so than 100%ing side quests.

I remember we did a Skirmish, I think? Where we were on a wall, and build turrets and tried to defend statues but I believe all 3 times we tried it we lost by a fair amount - those seemed fun, but they had their own talent tree that seemed difficult to level up. I forget if they were even worth it for the exp, honestly.

Wondering what other stuff like that might exist - I know when I played many years ago there was 3 man skirmishes that involved like defending a wall from orcs and gave "too much" exp (as in I felt wasted not doing them) and tokens for gear better than I could get anywhere else on the 20-40 range, but I haven't found that specific skirt, yet. Only the wall one, and one where a city is on fire at night.

Looking for recommendations! We're a LM/RK combo so we do well. If I recall we duo'd a couple dungeons which was fun. One had a final boss on a boat that we bear kited until he evade bugged and killed us.

Also wondering about things we should "try not to skip" as we level - I did grab the Stat point addon to tell you if you're missing any traits. I enjoy doing all the deeds regardless.

Unsure of what Race/Class to play.

    Posted: 17 Mar 2021 09:57 AM PDT

Hey, so I have attempted to play this game many times, but I keep restarting because I cannot choose a character.

I am stuck between Hobbit hunter and High Elf champion.

I love Hobbits, but I also love playing as a Noldor. anyone got any ideas on what would be more fun?

What class should I choose for a new character? Evernight

    Posted: 17 Mar 2021 07:15 AM PDT

    Hi r/lotro!

I think I'm done with building my Lore-Master for now - I have Stairs/Remmo T1 gear on all slots with lesser-slade or slade-wrought essences, so when it comes to gear I can't progress much further - just try higher tier instances from time to time. I'd like to create 2nd (or actually 3rd) character and buy 120 level skip when (and if) it's on discount.

-I don't really feel like I want to pay, so I don't think I want Warden or Rune-keeper (not even sure if such thing as RKs exists in LOTR lore), I might consider Bear though, because...everyone loves bears! Ź• •į“„•Ź” Also, I have a hunter on lvl 52 and to me, it's very boring. It's literally using 4-5 skills and mashing quick shot inbetween. As a lore-master, I literally use all skills I have - healing, debuffs, damage... Obviosuly, also no LM, since I have one.

-I'd prefer one of these: Burglar, Guardian, Minstrel. Maybe Captain or Beorning. And since my LM is human, maybe I'd like to choose hobbit or dwarf. Like I mentioned, Hunter is boring to me so not sure if I'd like Champion. I'm not a hardcore player, but I'd prefer more rare class which is on demand in groups, instances and raids.

I know that in theory I could try to play these classess for a while and try them out, but the problem is that you can't find out that much about particular class for, let's say, 15 hours of playing, because in that time I'd be able to get maybe 5 trait points. Apart from that, playing in groups is massively different than playing solo. Also, I'm not that experienced (started playing last summer, when quest packs were free). And the other problem is that all of these play styles look appealing to me - support, healing or tanking.

    Thanks for help!:)

    War Three Peaks Free?

    Posted: 17 Mar 2021 11:14 AM PDT

I logged in today after the patch and I had the intro quest for W3P waiting for me (the war effort needs you). I definitely didn't purchase that and I didn't see anything about that content in the patch notes; anyone else have that happen or know what's going on?
