Comprehensive list of the differences between expansion quests and full expansion packs

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 06:47 PM PDT

I haven't been able to find a comprehensive list of the differences between the expansion quests and the expansion packs, so I'm going to try to make one right here. There's a tl;dr at the end if you want to skip to that. Almost all this information comes from the in-game store descriptions and the LotRO Market on the website, but a few things I had to get from the wiki. I'm not sure that everything is 100% accurate, because some of the info I read could be wrong, or I could be mistaken in my explanation here. If I've missed anything, let me know in the comments and please provide a link to an official source or an in-game screenshot to verify, and I'll edit this post.

So, here's a list of the differences between expansion quest packs that are currently on sale and the full expansions. The Quest pack section for each expansion lists what each currently discounted quest pack contains. The Full Expansion section lists what is excluded from the quest pack but is included in the expansion, either from the in-game LotRO store or the Market website.

    Mines of Moria

    Quest pack:

    • Access to all Moria landscape quests and factions
    • Access to all Moria instances

    Full Expansion:

    • Two character slots (595 LP each)
    • Rune-keeper class (795 LP)
    • Warden class (795 LP)
    • Skirmish Trait Max Rank 15 (195 LP)

    Mirkwood

    Quest pack:

    • Access to all Mirkwood landscape quests and factions
    • Access to all Mirkwood instances

    Full Expansion:

    • Skirmish Trait Max Rank 25 (195 LP)

    Rise of Isengard

    Quest pack:

    • Access to all Dunland and Isengard landscape quests and factions

    Full Expansion:

    • Instance Cluster: Isengard (1495 LP, currently 99 LP)
    • Raid: Draigoch's Lair (1250 LP)
    • Red-clad Steed of the Gap (exclusive)
    • Title: Guard of the Isen (exclusive)
    • Skirmish Trait Max Rank 35 (195 LP)

    Riders of Rohan

    Quest pack:

    • Access to all eastern Rohan landscape quests and factions (except Wildermore)

    Full Expansion:

    • Instance Cluster: Rohan (1495 LP, currently 99 LP)
    • Can skip the free tutorial to unlock the Mounted Combat system
    • Mounted Combat Light Trait Tree (595 LP)
    • Mounted Combat Heavy Trait Tree (595 LP)
    • Steed of the Eastemnet (exclusive) (note that this is a regular mount, not a war-steed)
    • Title: Friend of the Mark (exclusive)
    • Skirmish Trait Max Rank: 40 (195 LP)

    Helm's Deep

    Quest pack:

    • Access to all western Rohan landscape quests and factions
    • Access to all western Rohan instances
    • Access to Epic Battles (amusingly, the in-game store calls them Big Battles)
    • Skirmish Trait Max Rank: 45 (195 LP)

    Full Expansion:

    • Title: Enforcer of Helm
    • Hauberk of the Hammerhand

    Some miscellaneous notes:

    • These lists don't include the premium tier perks for expansions, just the base tier, since that's equivalent to what is available in the in-game store.
    • The Legendary Item system is free and unlocks in Volume 2 of the epic quest chain, which is available without purchasing the Moria expansion or quest pack. You don't need to finish Volume 1 to start Volume 2, you just need to meet the level prerequisite.
    • The Mounted Combat system and the Medium Trait Tree are free and unlock with the Mounted Combat tutorial quest chain, which is available to everyone without purchasing the Rohan expansion or quest pack. According to lotro-wiki, purchasing the Rohan expansion unlocks Mounted Combat automatically without doing the tutorial. I haven't found any information about how the quest pack works in this regard, so I'm assuming that you have to play through the tutorial if you only buy the quest pack, but I'm not certain.
    • The Mounted Combat Light and Heavy Trait Trees are included with the full Rohan expansion, or can be bought as separate unlocks. According to lotro-wiki, even though the two trait tree unlocks are listed under the Character section in the in-game store, they are account-wide unlocks.
    • Wildermore has its own quest pack and is separate from the Rohan and Isengard expansions. It is currently free with the LOTROFREEQUESTS code.
    • Draigoch's Lair is a separate purchase in the in-game store and is not included in the Rise of Isengard quest pack or instance cluster nor is it included with the LOTROFREEQUESTS code, but it is included in the full Rise of Isengard expansion. It is currently free to access, but I'm assuming that access will go away at the end of the current promotion.
    • Many of these items that aren't included in the quest packs occasionally go on sale, either in the weekly or the seasonal sales. The only one that has never been on sale since the transition from Turbine to SSG, to my knowledge, is the Skirmish Trait Max Rank.

I still have a couple things I'm unsure about or are just confusing to me.

I'm not quite sure how the Skirmish Trait Max Rank packages work. On the F2P account I looked at, where no purchases had been made at all, the only Skirmish Trait Max Rank purchase available was 50. Are the other 5 tiers currently free? Will they go away at the end of August and return to the store? What happens if you get the Max Rank 45 included with Helm's Deep but not the others? What happens if you purchase Max Rank 50 but not the others? I don't have these answers currently.

The full Mirkwood expansion isn't available in the in-game store, only on the website. Lotro-wiki confirms this. The only difference between the expansion and the quest pack is the inclusion of Skirmish Trait Max Rank 25 with the expansion.

The Isengard and Mordor expansions are currently missing from the in-game store. Mordor isn't included in the current sale, so I'm assuming that's why it's missing, since that content is temporarily free. I'm not sure why Isengard is missing but Moria, Rohan, and Helm's Deep are all present. So, I can't verify if the Isengard expansion exclusives are included with the in-game purchase. I got a lot of that information from the wiki.

    TL;DR:

    • Access to Epic Battles and Skirmish Trait Max Rank: 45 are included with the Helm's Deep quest pack.
    • You don't need expansions or quest packs to unlock the Legendary Item or Mounted Combat systems. There are free quests available to unlock both those systems.
    • Instance clusters for Moria and Mirkwood are included with their quest packs, instance clusters for Isengard and eastern Rohan are not included with their quest packs but are currently on sale separately for 99 LP each.
    • All you miss out on by buying these discounted packs instead of the full expansions is the Rune-keeper and Warden class unlocks, 2 character slots, the Mounted Combat Light and Heavy Trait Trees, the Draigoch's Lair raid, and some exclusive mounts, titles, and cosmetic items.

    Lotro music

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 07:11 PM PDT

I have not been able to play for over 2 years due to taking on a new position with my job. I was sitting outside one day eating lunch and I got to thinking how much I missed the game. But the one thing that really stood out was how much I missed the music! Especially like the Evendim ambient music. I never realized how relaxing the music made my game play experience. I went on YouTube and bookmarked a ton of music from the game and now have it playing in the background while working. It has really made a huge difference. I hope to get back into the game someday.

Friend of mine keeps getting kicked off while entering new areas. This last time, he tried to log back in and got this message. Does anyone know what’s up with this? He can’t log in and is very sad. His internet connection seemed to be working otherwise.

What do you think of shirtless dwarves?

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 08:58 PM PDT

How do you guys feel about shirtless dwarves in town, particularly at gatherings and concerts? Do you find them fun or immersion-breaking? Maybe even offensive?

    Gagged

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 02:26 AM PDT

I got gagged because I messaged a friend over and over as a joke and right as I was about to stop I got gagged. I put in a ticket but I'm forced to wait at least a day for a response. Is there an alternate way to resolve this issue?

(I know it's stupid... I usually do stupid things)

Random Skirmish Option for extra rewards?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 01:32 AM PDT

I saw some old info about how you could do random Skirmishes for extra rewards. However my character is mid 40s and I don't seem to have this option in the instance finder, Do I need to be max (or higher) level for this option to show? Or am i missing something else obvious?

    Thanks!
