Reading the books as an adult...

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 08:24 PM PST

Read them as a kid and completely forgot everything, reading them again and wondering IF I SHOULD PLAY THIS? I'm wondering, purely in the sense of story and text, dialogue and writing, are quests exciting and will I feel like I've jumped into the books I've just finished reading (will play after I finish the books in a couple weeks)

    Thanks for your input!!

Recruitment for NEW Various Level Capped Kinship (50/65/75) TURTLE RECALL - Arkenstone

    Posted: 10 Jan 2020 05:40 AM PST

Hi. I am a former LOTRO player who enjoyed the earlier game and have been interested in replaying those older 3, 6, and 12 man raids on-level. (even Helegrod). I have been looking through the forums and on Reddit and have seen many kins and groups who do slow moving progression themes, but none of those are what I am really looking for. Here's what I was thinking...

A kinship for people to park some alts at specific levels. Would be looking for 50, 65, and 75 locked with the Stone of the Tortoise pocket item (100 Lotro Points in the store) and maybe others just depending on the want. A person might just want to run The Rift or Helgrod so they have a level 50 there. Maybe you want to be able to run all older instances so you have a few characters in the kinship, all of which are level locked. Many of us have alts that we lost interest in so why not dust those off and put them to use!

This would be a home for those who want to be able to run those instances with like-minded others any time and not be held to forward progression where the level (even though slowly) is constantly still moving. If you are interested in doing something like this then PM me here and I'll shoot you my Discord info. Anyone is welcome no matter the skill level or time constraints. This will be a leisurely thing for me as well, but I will put in whatever time and help that is needed because I would like to do some of this older content that was a blast back then! I do need some grown folks to help organize and lead so I will also be looking for officers as well. Again, no major time constraints are required, but we will communicate and set up set times for raids with plenty of advanced warning. I look forward to meeting you all.

Add me as a friend in-game or shoot me a message: Shamey

Journalist has a question for LOTRO players

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 12:44 PM PST

I'm a Boston Globe reporter, writing about Standing Stone Games and LOTRO. As you're aware, Amazon is planning a Lord of the Rings MMO of its own.

I just want to ask LOTRO players if you're interested in the Amazon game. Will you switch? Will you play both? Or will you ignore the Amazon game altogether?

Just looking for the perspective of serious gamers. Please ping me back at [bray@globe.com](mailto:bray@globe.com) if you'd like to talk. Thanks.

Epic Battles: free or do you need Helms Deep expansion?

    Posted: 10 Jan 2020 12:25 AM PST

So i've read on the lotro wiki that you need to own the Helms Deep expansion in order to do Epic Battles. As far as i know i don't own the Helms Deep expansion. But yesterday i was able to play Epic Battle: Defence of Minas Tirith.

So how does it work? Can you play all Epic Battles for free or is Minas Tirith a free Epic Battle?

EDIT: I don't know if it's relevant but i'm level 59 and still in Moria with questing.

    Server not opening

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 10:24 PM PST

So I recently have wanted to get back into LOTRO again after a 7 month break. In that time I had completely restored my Laptop, and all that; so I was missing a few things that I have been making sure to download, but as the title says- I am now faced with an issue that seems to have appeared many times in the past yet for others, this time doesn't have an answer, at least for me.
I downloaded this originally through steam, and when I went to press play on my server, It just vanished and nothing started. I proceeded to try multiple different servers, different options in the launcher, and none of those worked- so I went and installed from the website, still didn't work until I chose the 32-bit Legacy client, but with that I was approached with error 105, directx3d could not initiate, please install directx 9.0c+ and above. learned (it more crossed my path when scrounging around about this issue) later that it seems legacy clients don't really upgrade or accept directx 12 and their ability to replicate 9-11 from directx.
So I went browsing, followed many forums tips, followed the one guide to rule them all, many random forums of people with the same issue but all of them said their problems were fixed. yet none of the solutions have fixed mine, I have installed DirectX end-user runtime, microsoft .NET framework 3.5 2005 and Microsoft visual c++ 2005 and 2010, checked antivirus and firewall, deleted userpreferences, repaired, and reinstalled both, forcefakefullscreen= true as a change suggested by another forum, No sweetFX obviously since clean install, and nothing. please, any tips?

Suggestions on Mordor content for catching up

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 01:58 PM PST

I am starting to play again and wanting to see the more interesting zones and/or content. Story wise I mean. I am a Lore-master already 112 but I'm finishing up Udun quests currently.
Is there area I can run ahead to and just kinda jump in? Should I just follow the black book quests only to catch up? Is there an area or 2 anyone would recommend especially doing in Mordor because they liked it more than other areas?
    Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks!

Finally getting into LOTRO grouping as a Tank. Tips?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 01:15 PM PST

Hey everyone. As the title says, I'm finally getting into grouping. While it won't endgame grouping (I only own content up through HD) I am getting into it. I have a blue line Guardian that I am working on and any tips would be appreciated as I haven't grouped in any MMO in a while.

    Should I play LOTRO?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 09:25 AM PST

Hi, so me and my girlfriend, we've been thinking about playing some MMO together. I remembered LOTRO as it's free and my gf's laptop should be able to run it smoothly. Also, we both love LOTR and its world. That being said, I've read about an insane amount of micro-transactions in LOTRO even for things you can't properly play without, but I don't know how true that is.

Should I give LOTRO a try even if I don't wanna spend money on it, or should I rather find a different game?

Thanks in advance for any and all advice. :)

    technical difficulties launching game

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 12:00 PM PST

So I downloaded all 23.1 gigs of game files thru Steam, and have my correct old password and username, but the launcher crashes upon trying to enter the world. The last message the launcher displays before crashing back to Windows 10 desktop is 'getting in line to connect....' and then it will crash.

Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing a similar issue or if there exists a quick fix so that I can play LOTRO.

    Hello and Well Met

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 06:39 AM PST

I am a long time player (12yrs), but I have been gone for a bit (about 3rs) and I have never posted on this reddit. I am looking for Guardian Builds - Tank and DPS. I play solo or with my wife (she plays Hunters), we do quests and open world and of course events. My old tank build does not seem to work like it used to and most of the sites I used to go to and no longer there. I am currently level 112.

    Thanks

    Coming back. Landy or Laurelin?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 01:36 PM PST

Big fan of lotro, been on and off playing since 2012. I uses to play tons with my brother but eventually it felt like the grouping up, and other fun social aspects of the game vanished. Id come back to pockets of fun but basically... I gotta know.

Im NA. Should I join Landy or Laurelin? My focuses are laidback fun social questing, also rp on the side. And id like to get into instances eventually.
