    Why do you keep playing?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2022 06:43 AM PST

Nope it's not a game bashing thread. My question is pretty much the title. I was curious what drives you to keep playing the game, what do you like about the game which keeps you from quitting.

Currently I'm hopping from Lotro to ESO back and forth since I just love the stories and enjoying exploring them.

    LOTRO Physical Releases Part 8

Needs - Calculate how much $ you've spent over the years.

    Posted: 01 Feb 2022 04:29 AM PST

Do the math as best you can.

I'm curious how much money you've spent on LOTRO over the years.

I've been playing sporadically for about four years, and I've spent close to $60 over that time (mainly during storage and travel skill sales). I know that's not a lot, but it's more than I've dropped on any other f2p game.

    How bout you?

    Instance issue!

    Posted: 01 Feb 2022 04:20 AM PST

I'm trying to farm Trolls for a deed in Moria instance "The Gate of Ruin" in Redhorn Lodes, but can't reset the instance! Tried logging out and in again, exiting the game, and even fast traveling to another area and back and the instance is not restarted! The only way it gets restarted is if I come back to it later!

Is there a way to reset it or do I have to wait for time to go by to do it again?

Just a few tips to make player events easier to handle and more fun.

    Posted: 31 Jan 2022 10:47 PM PST

For newer players or anyone new to the musical events that occur throughout Lotro. These events can have 50 or more players easily, and the sheer number of things to read, and respond to, or do, can be overwhelming at first. Feel free to add any if you have them. In no particular order:

    1. Make multiple tabs for chat. Have one that is just for "Say", or however more filtered channels you can handle reading, or important ones like "Officer".
    2. Some events have a separate channel for the event, ask!
    3. Many events are either being recorded or live-streamed, usually by someone near the band who is in Stealth mode. Accidents happen, because they're in stealth mode, but be aware of them and try to avoid standing in front of them.
    4. Quick-slot your most used emotes, or hardest to type.
    5. Make sure to have Chat Bubbles turned on.
    6. Make sure to have Names turned off. You can hit N when you need it, but hovering works just fine.
    7. Scroll back your camera to get a better view of the entire crowd, and a better awareness of who is around you, so you don't step on a hobbit.
    8. Placing someone into your Iggy list (Ignore) will filter any music they play, this is mostly used for trolls who show up to over-play the band on stage. Just Iggy them, they'll go away.
    9. Turning Sound Effects low will lessen the volume of cheers and howls, turning down the game music will keep that from interfering with player music.
    10. You can also turn off pets, if someone pops a large shrew on top of your hobbit, or pulls out an annoyingly loud pet.
    11. If someone says something, and you see in in "Say" but don't see them, you can click on their name in "Say" and they'll show up on your map.
    12. The closer you are to the band, the louder the music will be. To add to this, the game transmits sound in stereo, if you get close enough, the musicians on your left will be heard out of your left speaker, those in front from both, and the ones on the right from your right speaker. Just don't get uncomfortably close.
    13. Nobody will mind if you come to an event and just sit and listen. Dancing is fun, but not mandatory. Conversely, nobody will mind if you dance badly. Dance like no one is watching!

Most of all, though, have fun!

    Questions About Threat Mechanics

    Posted: 31 Jan 2022 01:32 PM PST

Hi all, I'm looking to get back into LOTRO, likely through a tank, and have been wondering about the mechanics of the threat system here. I've done a bunch of research into LOTRO threat rules, but there's simply very few up-to-date resources for the questions I have in mind. Rather than ask an open question, I figured it would be easier on behalf of any potential respondents for me to state what I understand, and have anything incorrect addressed. (NOTE: I understand tanking can easily be accomplished without knowing the answers to the below. I'm asking more for my understanding).

1.) Threat for a non-tanking spec is generated at 1 point of threat= 1 point of damage= 2 points of health/power healing, up to full health/power. Tanking specs get a general 300% boost to these numbers, unless otherwise specified.

2.) Healing at full health or power (Overhealing) has been ambiguous according to recent sources: some say 1 point of threat per point of health overhealed, somewhat counterintuitively implying greater threat per point of healing; others say full threat for the 1st discrete heal at max health and NO threat for any additional heal(s) afterwords, until that individual is damaged again. I suppose there may even be differences in specs here (I.e. a yellow captain may generate healing threat at all times even at max health, but not a blue minstrel). There seems to be precedence for different threat mechanics between specs, see point #4 below.

3.) Unlike other games (Wow, Rift, SWTOR), there doesn't appear to be a percentage threat threshold that needs to be crossed to acquire aggro from the top target; I.e. you don't need 110% or 130% the current target's threat value as in other games, only top threat+1. I am the least sure on this point and could find only very vague references for this concept.

4). Taunts seem to generate forced aggro regardless of threat value for a specified unit of time, and in addition add ~8x the threat level of that mob's most hated target to the taunter. This is seemingly only true for tank specs; non-tank spec taunts only include the forced aggro component, without generating any actual threat. See thread "https://www.lotro.com/forums/showthread.php?677370-Undocumented-changes-to-the-threat-system&s=e16dbb701cbe2b42fb79663e7beceeb1&p=7988738" for a discussion on this.

Apologize for the long post, and really appreciate everyone who takes the time to help me with this. Thank you all!

    Returning player

    Posted: 31 Jan 2022 10:33 PM PST

    Hey All,

I started playing back in 2019-2020 on brandywine but I live in Australia and always had trouble with lag peaking over 200ms of lag. Are there any dedicated OCE servers yet?

    Thanks

Is there a good list of all the Epic/Black Book/Durin onramps?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2022 02:21 PM PST

I've tried figuring it out from lotro-wiki but there does not seem to be a clear indicator if a volume/chapter requires a previous one.

Good amount of agility for hunter?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2022 12:14 PM PST

Just came back to lotro after a bit. I remember reading some post where the amount of agility you have should be some multiplier of your level or something. I'm level 51 and I have like 1100 agility. Does anyone know what a good number is for what level you are?

Question: The Regenerative food available in Lotro Store now, looking for clarification on its purpose.

    Posted: 31 Jan 2022 09:38 AM PST

To set the stage I'm new to Lotro, been playing for less than a year, just a little over lvl 108, taking the slow path enjoying all of the beautiful scenery and taking in the local establishments as I run across them in game.

To the point, is the regenerative food that is available in the Lotro store, on sale now, regenerative as far as it restores health and stats and you get a single purchase for the quantity you buy (1, 5, or 20) OR is it regenerative in the quantities that they replenish each day in the quantity you purchased in either 1, 5, or 20 quantity? Similar to the crafting crates where each day it gives you some quantity of vended items or universal component(s).

I'm looking to clarify this, as I've found that purchasing items, from the Lotro Store, in the past do not work exactly as I anticipated them in-game. For ex., the Universal Toolkit says it's usable on all characters on your account, so I purchased thinking each of my alts would be able to use it as well....they can if I Share it with them. So I'm realizing you have to really understand what you're buying. It seems a lot of the things you purchase through the Lotro Store are things that make the game less tedious or speed things up...just my opinion.

Thanks for any comments or advice that the community can offer on this.

    Healer comparisons

    Posted: 31 Jan 2022 06:44 AM PST

How are the RK, Beorning, and Minstrel currently when it comes to healing in end game content? Last I checked (about a year ago) Beorning was top dog, Minstel was okay, and RK was meh. I know theres been updates since then though.

Please excuse my non-stop questions, there isn't a lot of info out there posted in the last year.

Best Duo Partner for Lore Master Utility/Support?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2022 06:57 AM PST

My husband and I have been playing LOTRO on/off (frequently off) since launch, and his favorite class by far is the Lore Master, for the pets, the aesthetic, and the utility.

Back in the day, I remember playing with him with my Captain and actually running out of power during fights, where he'd have to share the power to get me through it - he loved how useful that was! I don't know when it changed, but we've been back a few times and it seems guzzling power during overland fights or skirmishes isn't a thing anymore, so he feels a bit useless (and it still takes ages for us to kill things). Our curse is we BOTH like to play support classes, so we're either both weak, both kill things slowly, or are both too self-sufficient, lol.

We're currently level 42 on Cappy/LM, and I also have a level 42 Minstrel, which I didn't love playing (I feel like I don't GET it), but I'm trying to keep an open mind. At 50 I have a Beorning (love!), Guardian, and I also have a Rune Keeper. I'm willing to give it another go with Minstrel or even try a Warden (didn't love it initially).

I'm looking for advice on a class that a LM can actually HELP in combat just leveling or in duo skirmishes, whether that's heals or CC the class can't manage on their own or something else. Usually when recommending duos the solution is "you'll kill stuff fast, which is good" - that doesn't matter as much for us!

Epic Quest "On-ramps" for Volume III (Allies of the King)

    Posted: 31 Jan 2022 11:02 AM PST

I've found myself very over-leveled for the Epic in book IV and I'd just rather skip the rest of it before I get sucked into being a prisoner in Isengard. Does anyone know if the Epic can be picked up at the start of Book V or Book VI without doing the intervening content? This is like my 5th or 6th time thru, so I won't really miss out on the "important story elements."

    Thanks in advance!
