Did I miss the boat on Treebeard? Posted: 03 Jan 2022 11:20 AM PST Unfortunately I haven't played this game in many years. But I ask you to welcome me back with open arms! I only just now really got the itch to play LotRo because I'm reading the books! Treebeard sounds AWESOME, I am a very very casual and slow player (too much real life oof). And then I hear about this amazing server... except for the fact that it opened 6 months ago (?) and the first expansion is due to drop in 48hours. I want to play so badly, but with how slow I am I feel like by the time I hit level cap the SECOND expansion will be out and no one will want to do Mines of Moria with me. Reading through older posts... it seems there have been legacy servers of old that started great and have since failed. I'm scared of dropping a few hundred $$$ and months of time into Treebeard and then people just not returning. I'm just venting, looking for guidance, looking for someone or a kin to enjoy the game with but I feel I've missed the boat. [link] [comments]
Is there a detail in LotRO you never noticed? Posted: 03 Jan 2022 10:11 AM PST Andang recently asked his audience if there is a detail in LotRO you never noticed until years later. For me, it was the cat house in Bree. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZeCtJhYw86I [link] [comments]
Is it good idea to start in 2022 Posted: 02 Jan 2022 03:49 PM PST Hi, I want to try a MMORPG and in my search I found LOTRO and I am a huge fan of the Lord of the Rings. So my question is if it is a good game to start as a noob even in 2022? [link] [comments]
Q: Why do Men / Rohirrim / Grimbold hatefear elf magic? Posted: 03 Jan 2022 12:37 AM PST Just finished the Epic quests in Gap of Rohan and after everything I've done, Grimbold's fear over a single dream I had causes him to all-but kick me out and spit after me. What the hell? So it got me to thinking, this must be related to a larger belief system. How have the Men (of Rohan?) come to despise the Elves and their magic? Did they somehow relate it to all their misfortune? [link] [comments]
Questions on Treebeard and XP/Progression Posted: 03 Jan 2022 10:56 AM PST As I understand it the default XP on Treebeard is 40% and this is to mitigate "running out of quests" or overleveling correct? I want to make it to Mines of Moria, and hopefully by that time I am ready to buy the expansion but I am scared of hitting a wall. I would like to know what I need to do to level through and to Mines of Moria while enjoying the main quests. I ask this because I just found out you can toggle the mob difficulty for increased XP gain? What is the point of this.. I mean obviously in my head the extra 20% XP sounds amazing but I'm scared I'll run through too many quests and be stuck. [link] [comments]
Few quick returning player questions Posted: 03 Jan 2022 10:01 AM PST
Thanks! I hope the questions were clear. [link] [comments]
Why does my shield (cosmetic) not show in combat when "hidden"? Posted: 03 Jan 2022 03:23 AM PST I have a nice shield equipped in an outfit slot that I'm wearing, and it will only show in combat if left "visible", but if I put it as "hidden", my character pulls out the actual equipment shield? This doesn't happen with my other melee weapons, but I have noticed it happens with bows too. [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Jan 2022 11:05 AM PST Hello (potential) new (or old) wanderers, We are Those Who Wander, a slow levelling light RP kinship on the Laurelin server. Our current level cap is 95 and we are working our way through Western Rohan. We use the Stone of the Tortoise to inhibit experience, to take in as much of Middle Earth as we can. We have two regular RP questing groups, instance/raid nights, RP nights and events. We welcome lower level members and will always support with lower level instances when possible, with many members having alts at different levels to help out. The majority of our kin are EU based but we have a nice number from around the world as well. If you're interested in taking it slow and terrible banter, we'd love to hear from you. Just search for us in game, or ask here and join our discord channel. [link] [comments]
Is crafting still worth the effort? Posted: 02 Jan 2022 07:59 PM PST Hi all! I've been playing LOTRO for a while. I really love how immersive it is, and how detailed they go into the background of Middle Earth. I mean, some of the content is deep cut (vinyl reference lol). I usually just play until I get to Rivendell, and then start a new character. I've only ever gotten to Moria once, which means I haven't had a lot of playtime with the old legendary item system. Today, I finally got my woodworker to the point where I could buy legendary recipes from the craft guild. I travelled to Esteldin, entered the guild hall, right-clicked on the guild leader… and there were no recipes to buy. I thought at first that something was wrong, so I tried a different character who had already learned legendary recipes for scholar, and discovered the same thing. No legendary recipes available from craft guild (in Rivendell). So I did some digging, and discovered that with the revamp of the legendary item system that came with Gundabad expansion, you can no longer purchase legendary recipes. So my question is, is it still worth it to put time and effort into crafting? My characters are all way ahead of the areas I quest in, thanks to on-level experience earned from festival quests, so the mats I farm while questing don't help create useful gear for my characters. A lot of the time, I get gear at the raiding camps, because I get a lot of marks and medallions from festivals and deeds. I only use my scholar to make dyes, and my cook is pretty useless because I have so many potions, I don't need to use food. I can level up crafting tiers quickly by processing and reprocessing raw materials into outdated components, and back into raw materials. I really don't need the mats that increase chance of crit for a recipe, mostly because I have plenty of universal crafting components (from festivals and tasks) that guarantee 100% crit chance. I don't need improved recipes for the same reason. Now that legendary recipes have been removed, there's really no reason to have crafting guilds, and I'm starting to wonder if there's any reason to spend a lot of time and energy into crafting at all. Really disappointed that the Gundabad expansion kinda killed crafting, as it was once one of my favorite things to do in Middle Earth. Kinda hoping some players who've made it past Moria can tell me it's worth it and it gets better š [link] [comments]
New player, questions on hunter "line" Posted: 03 Jan 2022 06:56 AM PST I'm pretty set on playing an Elven Hunter. +5% damage! While looking through old posts it seems fairly split on red versus blue line. I have no idea which to go. I know it seems looking at it very high level blue is mobility and red is dps? I will be playing the game completely solo (sigh) and wondering which line to go and why? Appreciate it [link] [comments]

Help a New(Kind of) Player Out Posted: 02 Jan 2022 07:42 PM PST I started playing this game with my dad when it first went free to play. Back then, one the game was a bit different, two I had no clue what was going on, and three my only source of lotro points was a chores list my dad made to allow us to earn points. Recently he and I have both gotten into it after years of not playing. My Question is this: We All our characters are currently in Bree proper and level 20 or below, aside from my secondary character who is still in Ered Luin because I just made him. What all should new characters do to maximize the experience as well as set ourselves up for success in the future? Should I do all three starting areas? What is up with Bingo Boffin? How important are area based deeds? [link] [comments]
Just adding a darker skin tone. Posted: 02 Jan 2022 12:47 PM PST Edit: this query has been answered and I thank those who were straightforward but I feel like there's a certain point were you say its just a game why not just add it. My friend introduced me to this game so we could have a game that we could waste our lockdown playing and I have to admit I have never been interested in MMO games but this one felt different and was excited to play. But to my dismay as soon as I got to character creation i was hit with the reality of Lord of the rings. can I say for starters that as someone who is mixed race and a deep lover for all things Lord of the Rings that it truly hurts, that not in a single class can I pick a darker skin tone for my character then slightly tanned white guy. Sure I understand that there are no black people in Tolkiens lord of the rings and its not cannon, this that and whatever excuse people seem to use to discredit the idea of including people of colour in the franchise. Personally I always customise my game characters to look like me so I feel part of the game and truly involve myself in the world. So when I am just running around as a character I dont feel a connection too its hard for me to care or even want to get involved. Its not much to ask for and I hope I am not alone in this. Are there any plans for furthur map expansions? Posted: 02 Jan 2022 08:25 PM PST Hi, I've found this annouced game map thread from 2 years ago https://www.reddit.com/r/lotro/comments/cexbym/announced_lands/ And I would like to ask, does anybody know if there's an updated version of this ? One thing that make me stick around is that the game let me explore the never before seen parts of middle-earth, so I would really be happy if they have plans to expand the game map even more. Which area should I go to with a lvl 30 Hunter? Posted: 02 Jan 2022 09:59 AM PST I have already finished Ered Luin, the Shire and Bree-land, amd I don't know if I should go to the North Downs or to the Lone-lands. I have reedemed the coupon that gives you a lot of quest packs (idk if that matters). [link] [comments]
Stone of the Tortoise - Account or Character bound? Posted: 02 Jan 2022 04:54 PM PST So I've been considering picking up one of these for a while (especially since there's so many good low-ish level zones), and I was wondering if it can be traded between characters. [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Jan 2022 11:37 AM PST Hi everyone, new to the game and picked up 3 peaks whilst it was on sale (perhaps premature). I understand I get to choose only 1 type of carry all and it would be good to know what people think is the most efficient. I do do crafting and my main is an explorer. Currently have a small crafting carry all but that fills up very fast. I'm not sure if later on the essence carry all would be more useful though. Thanks. Edit: thanks everyone. I went for the Task carry all with the plan to buy the crafting one on sale. [link] [comments] |
