So, been told and read that both are good solo classes, also read and ha e been told to go hunter because no matter how fun champion is it cannot make up for hunter travel abilities…..what ever those actually are, thoughts? Are the travel abilities really that usefull?

Do you have to create new characters before getting Premium Wallet?

I'm actually relatively new to LOTRO (not MMOs though - 13 year WoW refugee) as a whole, and I want to do everything from the beginning with no valar or anything. Will I have a better time on normal or on Treebeard? And if Treebeard, am I too late to get in on the Angmar experience?

Early Levelling

In the level 20 or so range, are there any alternative areas to level beyond the Lone-lands? I understand it's necessary to go there for the story quests and whatnot, but is there a place I can go beyond this zone to level, and then proceed through the story quests in it at my own pace later on? Specialization for Warden?

Hello,

A rather though choice (or so I think) stands 'fore me and I've come to ask You for help. I've started a new character who's Man Warden and I can't quite decide which specialization should I choose. My playstyle is a solo one and having a choice between melee and range stance is nice 'cause that is what Hunters lack, but having had played virtually only Hunter before, I've got used to playing ranged DPS the Yellow Line seems tempting, but should the things go south DoT and AoE of Red Line seem useful. I think that maybe using both Lines would be the wisest?

What is wrong with support?

For about a month I have been going back and forth with support to get my account to allow me to log in. After eight years I wanted to come back as I had purchased this game, and the expansions, and I wanted to come back to DDO as well, but I can't. I wanted to get in for deal they had running as a returning player, but obviously they don't want me. Considering how inpet, and actually non attentive (taking days to a week for a response each time) I think this may be a sign of the state the game is in.

What is happening is I can't login and when I asked the system for my account's character names, and a reset password it took a few days but I did get them finally (after numerous attempts). I told it my new password where it accepted it then told me to log in now. I tried using the new password but it says it does not match. Tried it again having to wait a few days for it to show up and repeated everything with the same result of not being accepted YET I had just reset it. The best support did was the last communication was to change my account's email address (a week ago) but I still do not get anything from the server YET I own the email server. I finally made a gmail account just for this as a last ditch hope and 15 minutes after I received a reply from support I replied to them. I am still waiting almost a week later. All I can say is when Dec 1 arrives and I can't get in on the deal then I will uninstall these games forever more realizing maybe I was saved and dodged a bullet.

I will always remember the times I had in this game, and the fellowship I was in when my wife suddenly passed away Feb 7, 2013, and they were there for me to be a shoulder at least. Not even this damn inpet turds of a support can take that away from me.

LOTRO is probably one of the oldest (played) MMOs still around, and one thing that's easy to get confused around with is all the mtx (microtransacrions), unlocks, and generally what to purchase when starting out. The sub model is also...well it's dated, so if you are used to other MMOs you might be confused as to what is and isn't part of it.

So hopefully this puts things into perspective.

Part 1: The F2P side: What is and isn't free?

One thing I've seen alot of new players asking in-game, is what's free. Since all the mtx gets really confusing at the start. "Technically", you could experience the whole main story without having to purchase anything, but that kinda takes away from the experience.

Now for now if you're new, the main takeaway/important ones would be these below....

Generally what's free are:

The Main Epics: the main storyline of LOTRO which everyone has access to
The Original/Base Classes
The Starting Zones + The Lone-Lands: levels 1 - 35

What you have to pay for:

The Quest Packs: the other regions in LOTRO
Expansions: several regions bundled into an expansion, usually has more content than questpacks
Character unlocks: Virtue slots, Race slots, Class Slots (click J, you'll know what I mean)
Riding: ....it just is....
Gold cap

Optional (but highly suggested): The Premium Wallet: dumps all region tokens inside your wallet. SUPER USEFUL! TRUST ME!

As of Update 31, the code LOTROQUESTS2021 is still redeemable until the end of november. USE ASAP TO GET ALL QUESTPACKS FOR FREE!

Part 2: What is included in the Subscription?

Now with that out of the way, subscribing would normally be the answer to getting everything. Yes, but not exactly.

TLDR: Out of all the stuff listed there you have to pay for, only Expansions are not included in the sub model. Including Premium Wallet.

The Main Reason to sub, and normally is advised for just 1 month for new players, is to get rid of the character unlocks, to get riding, to remove the gold cap, and get the expansions. You also unlock Swift Travel for travel destinations which frankly is perhaps the most convenient thing.

The 1 month is mostly to get a feel of the game, so you know if it's worth it or not.

Part 3: Which expansions to get first?

The lotro wiki sums it up pretty well, but my only point for this would be that ever since Mordor, the base editions of the expansions usually come with a premium race or class.

As of Update 31, only Minas Morgul and Fate of Gundabad base editions can still be purchased to get their respective premium race/class.

Part 4: Advise: Which model to go for?

Phew that was alot...okay so this last part will try to keep brief, and this is mainly my own opinions and advise on how to proceed, especially since I'm a lowkey whale in any game i play...but there are 3 ways (+ 1 tentative way) to go about this:

Get VIP (subscribe) for once a month: Allows you to play content over time without having to rush to minmax a longer sub time. And by then gets you enough LP to purchase the first expansion. Roughly $14.99/month ; you effectively also get rid of the char unlocks....
Buy the expansion bundle in the LOTRO market + LP/sub: on the LOTRO Market (website) there's a bundle that includes the first 6 expansions. Covers the expansions asap, and the subscription takes care of the quest packs or you can purchase LP but sub is still better in this regard. Roughly $59.99 + sub time
Farm LP: Will not sugarcoat this. But assuming you opt to go pure f2p, i'm saying this now, you will ultimately be recreating char after char to do what is effectively purchase level regions. Aaand considering there are far more better things to spend LP on (premium classes and housing for one), you will face an uphill battle for this.
Use the Code, and Purchase the expansions on sale (ONLY VIABLE DURING CODE AND SALE): this last is only for certain situations); this is the third time LOTRO has put the expansions on sale and given the quest pack code. This leads me to believe that this might , and big might , be a recurring thing now.

Part 5: Conclusions

Ultimately which route you go for or what to prioritize is up to you. As I always say, for a game from 2007, it's surprisingly aged well in terms of graphics. The Eriador region doesn't show it yet, but the new regions show how much they love to flex their muscles now they aren't following the books.

As someone who plays a ton of modern games, LOTRO is a nice side-on for that old adventure and medieval vibe experience.

Whether you love the books, the movies, or are looking for another game before Shadow of War 2.0 comes out (wru 🥺), i'd say LOTRO is a good investment alongside FFXIV and SWTOR as long lasting MMOs.

Trying to install on 32 bit PC

Im trying to install the game on a 32 bit pc, and so far its gone smooth. But it keeps freezing on install visual studio redistributable. Its trying to install the 64 bit version when I have a 32 bit pc. I went and manually downloaded the correct 32 bit version but its still trying to install the 64 bit one.

I played this game ages ago, met some really awesome people and then kinda disappeared off the face of the earth. I stayed away from the game when I learned that one of said people that I met, passed away tragically. But, seeing the sales and code going on, I decided to come back.

I have some toons on Landroval and Laurelin, I believe. I've been grinding out a new one on Arkenstone. How is the state of the game? Would be lovely to meet some friends and play with people, despite being socially awkward haha

Instance Cluster: Rohan & Instance Cluster: Isengard.... really necessary?

I'm putting together a second account for my son from scratch with LOTROQUESTS2021 and I purchased the following for 99 LP:

Expansion Quests: Mines of Moria
Expansion Quests: Siege of Mirkwood
Expansion Quests: Rise of Isengard
Expansion Quests: Riders of Rohan
Expansion Quests: Helm's Deep
Expansion Quests: Mordor

With 116 LP remaining should I bother with either of these:

Instance Cluster: Rise of Isengard
Instance Cluster: Riders of Rohan

I recon with low pop on Gladden we'll likely never do the 6 and 12 man raids and the 6 small fellowship instances.
Are there any exclusive or must have items or deeds in these instance clusters?

Game optimalization/settings

Hello, Im here to plead for help. I have powerful gaming machine, no problem to run newest titles on ultra. However, when, I run lotro, it stutters very much. I tried to play with settings, looked up graphic guides but nothing so far helped and Im at my wit's end.

I would like to ask you, my fellow gamers, what settings or texture packs work for your powerful computers. I'd like to have smooth and enjoyable experience.
