Just finished all the side/main quests in Bree, and I'm given the option to either go into the Northdowns, which seems interesting to me, or I could follow the Volume quests, which is in the Lonelands. Posted: 06 Jul 2021 07:04 PM PDT Im in one of those moods, where i go around trying out a dozen different mmo's looking for the one that clicks for the summer, last winter it was WoW, the summer before was ESO and FF14 etc. Ive tried lotro way back and i remember enjoying it, but i didn't actually play a whole lot thanks to my situation at the time. For me, the big thing i enjoy out of mmo's is exploring, enjoying the stories, solo content that can be immersive. Really just taking my time and soaking it in, as long as "taking my time" doesn't mean pointless daily chores to grind rep or whatever. I don't really focus on high end pve content (and i loath pvp), by the time i make it to whatever endgame there is everyone has moved on to the next expansion, which im fine with. Does this game deliver on these ideas? what do you love about lotro? what are some signifigent issue you think i should be aware of as a new palyer? Also this i a pretty embarrassing question specifically because of this games setting but... my favourite fantasy character archetype is the wandering knight so to speak (you can see where this is going), the best shorthand ive used to describe this in any other setting was, you guessed it, Aragorn. to be clear, its not because its Aragorn, ive liked this archetype before Viggo Mortensen, he just happens to be the best way to express it through visuals. Anyways, all that to ask, what class is similar in style? two handed sword, chainmail and leather and cloaks with some light plate, the practical wanderer/explorer look, and in gameplay terms, good for solo play? Also how is the transmog system? a good transmog system can make or break a game for me. How important is crafting now? I am going to be playing pretty casually and spending just a lot of time leveling for now at least. Is there any reason I should worry about crafting while leveling? Posted: 06 Jul 2021 10:40 AM PDT BELOW IS A FRAGMENT PURELY on my memory of incredible changes that followed and why Classic Vanilla was truly the most daunting and unique challenge with depth and immersion Shadows of Angmar produced greatest warriors and Lore masters Arda has seen and for very good reasons, needing immense will patience skill and daunting ardours challenges, tasks and so on.. more to read below -- I was so fortunate indeed that I have stumbled across one day now over 14 years+ at least Exclusive Copy of Special Edition of Original therefore my countless tales officially started I shall pin point you why Original was greatest and notable features that do not exist no more. THE WORLD WITHOUT Store, Mithril coins, Trait Trees, Legendary weapons/ Imbuement, Hobbit presents, essences, pets, Mounted combat, big battles ,skirmishes , FREE 2 PLAY ,High elves, Wardens, Rune-Keepers ,Beornings ,Missions, premium housing , the magical and incomparable world of Vanilla Lord of the Rings Online -- - There were seven true classes each class had its true role , Guardian being the only true tank, Champion as AOE DPS, Hunter is ST DPS, Minstrel as healer, Burglar as off hand dps and debuffer, LM as primary Crowd control and debuffer , Captain as support/buffer - In depth combat with much slower attack speed, Weapons had special speed, daggers as fastest two handed axes were slowest -- DPS was significantly less, Obtaining of weapons was more difficult and rare, either being crafted and very expensive or instance/raid drop only - Acquisition of silver/ gold was difficult and mobs, quests provided extremely little coin - One had to change traits at bard and BUY skills at trainer EVERY TIME - One had to do Carn Dum and Urugarth to kill bosses to acquire special trophies for legendary class quest and pages took eons to collect - THERE WAS A LOT LESS TRAVEL ROUTES and less FAST TRAVEL OPTIONS - THERE where SEPARATE mitigations / Resistances and Special Melee and Ranged defence rating making classes a lot more vulnerable to attacks forcing to equip special armor or Deeds THUS being unable to solo effectievly or in raid or just about anything having being forced to sacrifice one stats to other. - Cap to stats was 500 only. Might, Vita, and so on. - Players often RUNNED with very low fire ,frost or shadow mitigation , Drakes, Wraiths,Spirits were extremely deadly, etc - DEEDS WERE LOCKED AT 10 AND TOOK INSANELY LONG TO FINISH WITH SLAYER DEEDS CERTAIN TO 450 AND often evolving grouping to kill off elites - CLASS DEEDS took ages to finish because they had Daily limit and CD - ENITRE JOURNEY IN WHOLE FELT SO LONG quests did not gave a lot of XP, mobs took long to kill, finding boss was not easy, CD were long , players were slower , everything was slow - FOG OF WAR which means for everyone everything was hidden until you ventured far to discover - FULL VERSION OF INSTANCES NOT today's messed up broken in wings versions such are Helegrod, Garth Agarwen, Fornost, Great Barrow - Hundreds of Rare signatures, Elites ,Elite masters roaming the world and would drop Special Beryl, Adamant, Ruby or Sapphire shards ONLY way to execute certain recipes- - Dread after defeat had -4 negative effect and big repair cost forcing players not to go lightly and group often trying to avoid death as best they could - There WAS NO INSTANCE FINDER - FINESSE DID NOT EXIST therefore mobs and other players and creeps would have blocked, parried evaded resisted incredibly more making fights much more unpredictable and longer also evidently tougher since now one can bypass so easily - THE WORLD WAS FILLED WITH DIFFICULT FOES , Signatures, Elites ,Elite Masters even Arch Nemesis within Annuminas -- Grouping was a must have yet provided perfect balance between solo and group content as well , Solo was far from impossible but very demanding and slow THE WORLD IS NERFED DOWN toned especially entire Annuminas/Haudch Iarchich area turned to clown park with level 20- 40 signatures and many other scaled and nerfed levels and difficulty indicators across old Eriador original areas which is a shame and mockery to Original one of hundred ruined aspects - EVERY weapon, armour set, jewel, cosmetic was unique being a drop special and not recycled or later on spoiled with store or skirmish cheap reward these items were later diminished and their quality forever ruined - THERE WAS incredible sense of exploration , immersion in depth progression with NO MOUNT BEFORE 35 AND MOUNT COST WAS 4G AND 220S forcing you to see the world and learn more about your surroundins - WEAPON DAMAGE TYPES PLAYED FAR GREATER ROLE with Beleriand a must have to target wraiths because of Reflect Haudh Iarchith needed only Westernesse Sarnur required Ancient DWARF type of damage because foes had incredibly massive mitigation to any other type of damage -Every single buff and crafted type of food, scroll , IN PARTICULAR HOPE HAD SUCH GREATER VALUE AND ESSENTIAL - REPUTATION WAS A CHALLENGE TO HIT KINDRED TOOK AGES AS WELL -- twas no simple , For instance REPUTATION tiems dropped far less, there was no reputation gain at some point from quests nor QUEST repeatable nor landscape cheap repeatables or XP from foes. Overall and all Reputation for each faction was a long process and rewarded with much reputation experience - No matter how fast and hard and skilful you were you could wipe with ease you could not trave lfast you could not foll or outwift your opponents or landscape it was designed very wisely that one had to either took an enormous risk and group up or took million years as for example MOST VERSATILE GOD MODE CLASS LM TO forever kite, crowd control and use pet or other skills to take down foes. Yea LM was a true god mode of SoA purely on controlling the battle-field and having vide array of skills to perm slow ,keep foes stunned heal and reduce their Ranged/melee damage etc -Crafting WAS COMPLEX and took ages to finish with pommels ,hilts, shafts and special crafting trophies acquired from very rare signatures often Elites or Elite masters even with higher chance to fail crtitical ,there was no crafting XP, special quests to undertake - NO TAGGING INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT , grouping was must whoever tagged certain foe or group it was greyed out which was fair and others could not steal credit off and leech. - 2 HOURS OF CD in PvMP preventing fast side switching and spying was very difficult running 2 clients at same time was not possible , NO FREE 2 PLAYER SYSTEM no Multi-boxing , A LOT LESS PERFORMANCE issues , special Ettenmoors gear for each class and Delving of Fror instance for Luminous Stones, no buying skills from store, LANDSCAPE in Ettenmoors and mobs were very useful and far deadlier providing safe heaven**, NO AUDACITY SYSTEM** - Every single class , skill , mob , weaknesses strenghts , world locations had to observed learned ,studied almost carefully it had so much more depth, IT SEEMS THAT LITTLE WENT FAR - THE GAME WITHOUT WORLD CHAT , bs Media such are Twitch , Recording was so rare and often blurred and less of quality IT WAS A MYSTERY , we knew so little compared today EVERYTHING IS HANDLED BOOSTS everything thing is on wiki every buff everything you want with one click teleport ,blaze through mindlessly. - DEEDS IN WHOLE HAVE FAR GREATER LORE EXPLANATION from RACIAL ,EXPLORATION AND SLAYER you can see it by yourself considering developers passion and will to provide and QUALITY OF WRITTING - QUALITY OVER QUANITY EACH INSTANCE WAS FLAWLESS EACH ZONE WAS INCREDIBLE WITH SUPERB SOUNDTRACK , LORE, STORY ARC , PLOT, DESIGN , special monsters , Volume I wonder, EACH EPIC BOOK WAS GROUP COMPARED TO TODAY'S LAME INSPIRATIN BUFF - NO LOTRO WIKI , sites such as zam, lore book and player made guides, Prima Guide Volume I, Comapanion physical boxes ,maps , letter of thank you, Mithirl statues and gorgeous art, and cover of collector's Edition - HUNDREDS OF WEAPONS WITH SPECIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION some of them linked to First Age with intriguing text - LOTRO AT OFFICAL RELEASE ONLY HAD MORE THAN 1600 QUESTS AND 2000 DIFFERENT WEAPONS thats without SINGLE MINOR OF MAJOR UPDATE - source official prima guide - GAME WAS SO MASSIVE PEOPLE have lost sense of scale with expansions THERE WERE HUNDREDS OF UNIQUE MOBS, MILLIONS OF LINES OF TEXT, Quests Nine massive regions, thousands of characters and consider back then instances took VERY LONG TO FINISH - Because OF VASTNESS, limitations and slow approach each zone felt as mini WORLD ITSELF having no option to so EASY BPYASS and travel everywhere - You had to ride from Rivendell all the way to Helegrod gates to Far North , Goblin town was a MAZE , EACH INSTANCE was careful coordination of group play ,preparation , skill , time investment , systematic clear and ardorus task - ORIGINAL SKILL LINE WITHOUT CLASS TRAIT TREES CHAMPIONS with shields fervor,ardor glory etc , no insane dps, no messed up versatile system of trait trees giving classes enormous power -- COMBAT and gear , Deeds, Virtues ONLY 2 LEGENDARY SLOTS and 5 class slots forcing you to be even less powerful indeed as I have said before SEPARATE RESISTANCES AND MITIGATIONS - Shadow being very important , Fire WAS MOST DANGEROUS because there was no fire mitigation gear bare one 6/6 Angmar set and it gave only 5% or Each instance had to be studied and EQUIP proper line , proper Traits that gave either a lot of poison resist , or Wound or Shadow ,Disease depending on nature of foes you are fighting off FELLOWSHIP MANOUVERS CANNOT STRESS HOW IMPORTANT THOSE WERE YOU HAD TO LEARN PROPERLY and there were dozens of different accuracy and team work were must have POWER CONSERVATION ,POWER HAD TO CAREFULY CHECKED and in combat power regeneration gear Captain was precious to summon or hunter to port for real , THERE WAS USUALLY RARE CAMP SPOTS and OFTEN GROUPS HAD TO FACE A LOT O DANGER ALONG THE WAY TO TARMUN SURSA TO GATES OF CARN DUM ,RIFT OR URUGARTH, ENTIRE TROLLSHAWS HAVEN'T HAD A SINGLE TRAVEL ROUTE, Goblin town was not easy to memorize , Mirdanant AX was a drop to get pocket item everyone would roll for it , Helegrod was originally 24 man raid, never again you would see full 24 man classic raid bare Ettenmoors raids twas truly unique and memorable. - Every single item had such an immense ValuE, MARKETING WAS FAIR AUCTIONS DID MADE SENSE NO LAILA MARKET , NO REVAMPED OLD ZONES, BREE LAND, LONE LANDS,TROLLSHAWS,NORTH DOWNS, ANGMAR, MISTY MOUNTAINS, SHIRE , ERED LUIN UNTOUCHED PURELY AS THEY WERE. - YOU HAD TO BE A SUBCRIBER ARMED WTIH courage, hope and your rusty sword at beginning no boosts or free presents or mount or shinny gear AND - NO QUEST TRACKER AT ALL OF THE GREATEST FEATURES FORCING PLAYERS TO LEARN TO IMPROVISE TO USE THEIR HEAD FOR A CHANGE AND LEARN A HARD WAY TO EXPLORE AND find things or foes by themselves not as today when EVERYTHING IS SHOWED AND PAINTED nerfed simplified and toned down Morale potions cured far less than today, there were no tomes of defences or morale store potions rejuvination bs and so on - 1 BARTER ITEM - 1 ARMOUR PIECE OR WEAPON FAIR AS BEST IT CAN BE. AND TIS ONLY A FRAGMENT , I TRULY FEEL SORRY YOU NEVER IF YOU DID NOT experienced original back in 2007/08 I do, you can go back to some old zones tis far from same ,entire community from world revamp graphics, game-play features and deeds skills and overall countless mini changes tis but a shadow of former self VANILLA WAS INCREDIBLY DIFFERENT IT WAS TRUE LORD OF THE RINGS ONLINE BY VALIER older game gets today i was in Annuminas remembered by champion and captain of struggle swimming and avoiding Elite masters grouping ,treasuring every item and feeling accomplised after instance and quest clearing powerful enemies - THEY SCALED AND CHANGED SKINS and even height of certain enemies diminishing original quality and even weapon skins of some - Every fight small scale raid, Ettenmoors duel ,Spar was incredibly enjoyable and best balanced then ever was, every weapon at 50 had same DPS ,no class had insanely overpowered skills there was no way to faceroll or speed up or solo raids or 6 man, VERY RARELY WITH IMMENSE difficulty few choosen and only few classes could have done and depending greatly what they did , TO PUT IT SIMPLY because of how system WORKED BACK THEN GAME DID NOT ALLOWED YOU TO do things as you can do it today. LEVEL 50 TODAY locked and level 50 in 2007 and 2008 is as playing totally DIFFERENT CLASS AND GAME IN A TRUE SENSE. COMMUNITY WAS GRAND, non spoiled GM'S were far more strict and punishable names, vulgarity and abuse ERA OF CODEMASTERS AND 30 SERVERS , KINSHIP DKP POINTS AND 2 WEEL OR 1 MONTH TRIALS, DIFFERNT LOOT, MAINTAING KINSHIP AND BEING LEADER WAS MORE DAUNTING AND RESPONSIBLE AND HARDER to maintain and find a well group back then not everyone could have done it needing 8 players minimum to be active otherwise auto disband today you can simply create it as solo player and so on.. BEING ACCEPTED TO RAIDING KINSHIP A HUGE SUCCESS DOWNING A RAID BOSS , A SENSE OF INCOMAPRABLE SATISFACTION WHEN FINISHINF JUST ABOUT ANYTHING A QUEST, TAKING DOWN BOSS HITING 50 ,KILLING PARTICULAR DIFFICULT MONSTER AND EXPLORING THAT HIDDEN LITTLE SPOT OF MAP BECAUSE OF IMMENSE AMOUNT OF THINGS THAT ENORMOUS GAME BACK THEN THE PERIOD OF SHADWOS OF ANGMAR FELT INSANELY LONG AND YOU ALWAYS DISCOVERED SOMETHING NEW BECAUSE AGAIN ON HOW WORLD WAS DESIGNED AND MASSIVE AMOUNT OF CONTENT IMMEDIATELY RELEASED ALREADY I DO NOT THINK PEOPLE WILL EVER BE AWARE WHAT MEANT TO HAVE VANILLA INSTANTLY RELEASED THOUGH THEY DID RELEASED EVENDIM IN JUNE 2007 AND FOROCHEL IN 2008 APRIL HOWEVER THEERE STILL NINE REGIONS sub regions and all felt so much more grand and mysterious ,scroll back and below read all again few TIMES AND YES IF YOU CAN SEARCH FOR OFFICIAL PRIMA GUIDE OR COMPANION II OR THREAD ON OFFICIAL LOTRO FORUMS CREATED BY ME IN 2017 GOOGLE ** A MORE INSIGHT - " Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar the Ultimate Nostalgia Compliation" google LOTRO FORUMSKINSHIP had FAR FAR GREATER value as well and community bond nowadays is a chaos and everyone is solo everyone does what they want, game is dying , there was few gms, moderation and tickets are mess , there is EXTREME TOLERANCE what is allowed and not, back then they rulled with an iron fist. - and so on and so on... I could go and will recall much more now probably at current moment cannot and bit blurry and incomplete is, these you will not find anymore except in some very odl forums posts, prima guide it exists only in mind of those who played BACK THEN INDEED! Why Original game -- Shadows of Angmar is still and shall always remain the most comprehensive ,grand biggest and has far more content immersion and details can you can possibly perceive Twas a mix of Nostalgia. A Desire to share extremely useful data and and commemorate my 14+Years of playing Lord of the Rings Online to put it shortly and straightforwardly. - My hope is that some of those who appreciate and admire the works of Tolkien Secondary World will find it illuminating in respect of what Lord of the Rings Online was in general, in its own treatment of the fierce, passionate and mysterious Golden era which is now evidently ,sadly shunned away The old content of Angmar that lies abandoned and often rushed or explored in extremely undetailed manner often ignoring Lore, Story-Arc for instance and many other secrets are buried. - WHY SHADOWS OF ANGMAR IS THE GREATEST CONTENT YOU CAN OWN AND VIP HOLDS MUCH GREATER VALUE -- IN DEPTH ANALYSIS -- The whole world of Original IS MUCH MORE GREATER THAN YOU CAN POSSIBLY ENVISION WITH -- - -1600 quests only at very first day of the release that puts it without a single update yet adding hundreds more before the release of official first expansion - Over 2000 Monsters From Lowly Goblins to Mighty Misty Mountain Giants and Drakes - Hundreds of Unique Rare Signature/Elite Monsters that would drop special crafting components and trophies unique to each zone and crafting never seen again afterwards - 11 Zones {Excluding Eregion} Masterfully designed with a near perfect balance of Solo/Group Game-play. As you read currently it may not be so anymore I only wish to say how vast the original was much that you think - Reputation dungeons with specific damage types needed such are now unfortunately nerfed down Haudch Iarhich within Southern Barrow Downs and Sarnur within Ered Luin - There is ENORMOUS amount of Weapons from daggers to two handed axes, staves ranging from world drop ,quest ,raid reward, crafted or obtained from barter the Data-base once in old Lore-book is so unbelievably large and expansive and there are so many unique rare weapons that not not even i have collected or seen all of them. Thousands upon Thousands I think tis safe to say today and even more so on how Incredibly hard working Developers were and surely the team was substantial. The old Credits could provide more insight and Turbine have had far more than enough staff, resources to able to invest and create such a wondrous world and all therein. - HUGEST content of both Landscape Quests and Instances -- Including {Not going in any particular order} -- Full Fornost, Garth Agarwen, The Great Barrow , Carn Dum, Urugarth, Barad Gularan, Ost-Elendil, Haudh Valandil, Glinghant, with back then 24 man raid Helegrod and 12 man raid Rift of Nurz Ghashu with Greatest and most comprehensive Stroy-line ever put in game the monumental and esteemed Volume I. That does not include hundreds of other mini instances and encounters that will embark on with Voice actor and narrator {Gandalf} prior entering and most in game Videos as well - Hundreds up to 500 at least ,The exact number is unknown, Possibly up to thousand of UNIQUE weapons ,armour and jewellery with passionate and detailed Item description once more never seen or done after Original with few exceptions with Moria expansion. Thus MAKES VIP 15$ and up until 50 content GRANDEST and Biggest of any other expansion out there or "end game" Nothing beats the Glory, Splendour, Vastness , Quality ,Story, Lore, In-Depth, Immersive game-play, sense of progression with Class ,Racial, class quest deeds , Volume I story, Writing in General , Difficulty , Instances and world design, Soundtrack gorgeousness with an ardour and struggle and slow way the combat had sense, every class, every weapon and weapon type or damage type, every item and everything you obtained and crafted ,looted ,discovered ,killed had its purpose, value and logic. There was a magic incomprehensible for today, Magic that few remember now. Shadows of Angmar after its release stays as the PINNACLE OF creation and peak of Developer's might and will and never was surpassed and nearly only was close and maybe equally matched in certain aspects with Moria and Twas it. I WILL CERTAINLY COME BACK WHEN I RECALL MORE IF YOU DO RECALL SOMETHING FROM SUCH ERA FEEL FREE TO PUT IT DOWN TO COMMENTS, MY MY I WOULD GIVE ALL WHAT I HAVE NOW TO HAVE 1 YEAR OF UNTOUCHED CODE AND CLASSIC BACK THEN WOULD NOT MIND WHICH UPDATE PREFERABLY UPDATE 13-15 THOUGH MATTERS NOT MAY THY PATH EVER BE STAR LIT!!
