Unintentional auto-removal of posts and Spam issues on Reddit

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 01:53 AM PDT

First off, I for one don't check the modmail as often as I should... I was just going through modmail, I replied to a few then I saw it was a bigger issue than just a few people.

Looks like going back about 2 months now Reddit's spam filters have been auto-removing legitimate posts, don't get me wrong it's been getting lots of spam too(not all though), these filters are out of the mods control but we can manually approve posts that get caught.

And yes there has been some unsavory spam here too, but it's really not limited to this specific sub, I've seen similar spam(particularly Discord links) on virtually all the subs I frequent. I check this sub and many others multiple times basically everyday, but I certainly am not going to catch 100% of the spam that slips through the cracks immediately.

If you notice your post isn't showing up feel free to message me directly, I will sort it out. I might not check modmail as often as I should, but I do read every direct message I get on Reddit.

I'll leave this post stickied for a week or so for visibility.

    Returning Player For Legendary Servers

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 06:44 AM PDT

Hey everyone. I'm a returning player that is going to jump in fresh on one of the new legendary servers coming up on the 30th. It's been nearly ten years since I played on one of the previous restart servers and I had a blast. Fortunately, this means I already have Mines of Moria, Shadows of Angmar, and Siege of Mirkwood expansions purchased on my account.

Any suggestions based on state of the game or how to get back in to it?

    Posted: 25 Jun 2021 08:43 PM PDT

Hello! I'm kind of a new casual player. I'm on a free account and have enough LP to buy a quest pack. Which quest pack should I buy first or prioritise? Thank you!

New laptop, new install, new problems.

    Posted: 25 Jun 2021 10:18 PM PDT

So my old laptop was biting the dust (Dell Inspiron 15 7000 gaming). Bought it in 2017 and installed lotro for the first time in 2019. That install gave me no problems. I just installed, downloaded, and boom I was in game.

Have a new laptop now. MSi gs66 stealth. Installed lotro (made sure to download directx runtimes as advised by Hurin's lotro forum post) and I open the launcher only to get an endless "Processing: Microsoft isual C++ 2015-2019. It endlessly looped until my computer asked if it was okay for lotro.exe to make changes. Clicking yes gets me another loop. At one point the loop let me get to the log in. I logged in and boom firewall wanted me to allow the game. I hit yes but uhhhh game crash haha.

Loaded launcher again same issue but no getting to the login screen. So I am running repair and waiting a hella long time for that download again. It takes about 24 hours on my slow internet.

What I want to know is what went wrong? Other people in my kinship have gotten new laptops in the past year and had no problems with simply downloading and installing and running the game. Why am I having issues? How do I fix it.

I have already checked the forums and can't seem to find an answer. I was hoping any tech whizzes here might have an answer for me. I checked my Visual C++ in apps and files already and have all the rquired ones as laid out by Hurin on the forums. I should also mention that I cannot post to the forums for some reason :/

Any help would be appreciated. I miss my kinmates badly. I have been waiting to rejoin them for over a week.

    Login issue

    Posted: 25 Jun 2021 10:49 PM PDT

    Hi,

first of all, I do understand that this is not the place for game issues but the ticket system has me worried that I'll not get an answer and my account might be gone for good if I don't act quickly.

My problem is that I simply can't login anymore. I don't know what has happend but it seems like my account is locked(?). My kinship can still see my character in the kinship offline list though.

The error message: "The username and/or password is incorrect. Plese try again. Username and password are case sensitive"

I've tried everything (caps locks, change password, another computer, etc) but nothing works. The same massage is displayed in the lotro client, myaccount.standingstonegames.c om and lotro.com. I was online last week (on my laptop) without any problems.

I hope you understand my concern on this matter. I spent alot of time and money on this account.

Has this happened to anyone here and what did you do? Did you get your account back? Is there any lotro staff active on this subreddit?

    Thanks.

    Brewer hobby?

    Posted: 25 Jun 2021 08:42 AM PDT

Have they ever talked about adding brewing such as the farming skill line? Think of how fun it would be to have brewery houses to buy for specific shire locations for all kinds of ale.

How do I quickly level up as a burglar hobbit?

    Posted: 25 Jun 2021 05:49 AM PDT

My apologies if this has been asked a lot or frequently, but I'm having a hard time progressing in the game. It's not that I want to fast-forward through it and not enjoy it, I'm actually a returning player all the way back in 2013, I just don't remember my account info and had to start over.

Back then I had the time to take things slow and I did, got to soak up the lore and just get back to questing whenever I wanted so I can explore.

However now that my life is busier, I can't spend hours playing, especially if I spend 4+ hours playing only to bump up to one level.

So what can I do to maximize my time efficiently if I can only put in 2 hours a week on average so that I can move up the levels as much as possible?

I feel like I'm not doing something right, it shouldn't take this long to level up.

For context I'm currently at level 15, and have been trying to follow the Epic storyline, but because I've been doing quests and tasks out of order, the Epic won't let me proceed until I level up I think, as Tom Bombadil didn't send me to the Barrow Downs.

This is a beautiful game and I am enjoying it, but I just don't have the luxury of taking my time, when I'm not even getting very far.

    Can't log in?

    Posted: 25 Jun 2021 06:33 PM PDT

Played this game for the better part of the past ten years, admittedly haven't played much the past two. I like to login every once in a while to play creep or see if any of my old friends are online and whatnot. Last time I logged into the game was January. Just finished updating the game through the launcher (I use steam to play) and it said my password was incorrect. I clicked the "I forgot my password" link and changed my password. Tried to login and it said the same thing. Am I doing something wrong?

Difficulty slider in the open world?

    Posted: 25 Jun 2021 09:37 AM PDT

How are they implementing this? I understand the slider in dungeons and instances but the open world? Won't this fragment the player base further into shards/layers? Or am I overthinking it and it's just going to be a debuff with a corresponding buff to go with it (Drops/Exp boost). I still feel like it if it was a buff/debuff system it would still fragment the player base, especially for open-world group quests. I am still looking forward to a slower leveling and fresh legendary server.

    Guardians

    Posted: 25 Jun 2021 09:00 AM PDT

It has been a year or more since I played, and I don't keep up on the forums anymore. I am looking into coming back a little more frequently with the news of new legendary servers...

I heard that there were some major nerfs to guards, which are still my favorite class, a while back.

    How are they nowadays?

    PvMP news? Ideas? Balance?

    Posted: 25 Jun 2021 12:58 PM PDT

    PvMP news

I've heard mixed things about regarding PvMP in the new expansion coming out . Some places/people are saying to watch for changes to balance others predict that PvMP will not be worked on in a meaningful way.

I'm hoping to use this post as a place to put any information about PvMP changes/updates with the new expansion, as well as a place people can discuss various changes they'd like to see/think would help.

I know PvMP is not why most players play, but I personally like the idea of playing as the NPC's in an epic battle type situation, and see it as a fun way to let off some evil steam.

    Ideas

Much like my last post I'm sure this will be controversial but I like the idea of making freeps similar to creeps.

    Proposed changes:

1a) Make freep gear static and unchangeable, like creep stats (I know this is a popular idea). A PvMP character is copied from an existing character (your main) and locked to the moors. This would allow SSG to simply edit numbers on the copied characters to assist in balance.

1b) Alternative copy other popular MMO's like GW and have characters get preset stats once they enter the moors, regardless of gear.

    2) Pear back on some freep skills. Lock some cc skills or other overwhelming debuff skills when on a moors characters.

    3) I could take or leave locking trait points for freep players behind rank, but it balances the low rank experience for both sides.

    4) I can't post with out some major controversial points, sorry. Keep freeps slightly stronger. I like the idea that creeps are weaker lore wise. I would still want incredibly skilled creeps to be able to win 1v1 but evenly matched I'd want the freep to come out on top for lore sake. It also makes the creeps feel like the bad guys, and makes playing a creep feel tougher using every trick in the book to win.

    Final thoughts

I get that these posts are mostly in the dark and will never be picked up meaningfully, and that SSG have bigger fish to fry but It's fun to discuss.

I am no creep main, and don't actively play it often, so if I'm way off base let me know, and comment what you'd like to see around PvMP.

Finally, The goal of this post is to act as an updated "all-in" post about PvMP (hopefully). Any things about ways to improve, thoughts on, gripes against PvMP are welcomed here, but make it constructive please.

PS. Please make PvMP f2p for freeps.
