New to the game, is there more to it than just combat?

    Posted: 23 Apr 2021 07:06 PM PDT

I'm a huge fan of RuneScape, and that's pretty up there as far my standards go for an MMORPG. Can I do jobs or skilling whatever it's called? Is the questing decent? Is there more to do than just combat or should I look elsewhere? I'm going to be trying it soon so it'd be nice to know what I'm expecting going in because I still don't have a "main" MMORPG that's not, well, the 2 RuneScape versions.

So I'mma new player and I love a good story and this game is awesome!! Idk why Amazon cancelled! This woulda been an awesome game for younger generation if it had a visual tune up tbh. Thats all it needs to be even more popular. :D also I'm lost in silver deep help.

One year in (on and off) and there's still so much I'm learning or don't understand.

    Posted: 23 Apr 2021 06:02 PM PDT

TLDR: Started playing a year ago. Enjoy the game. Still don't understand a lot of things at level 59

I started playing last year during the F2P special. I tried out a couple of different class/race combos and settled on a Hobbit Hunter. I bought VIP for 3 months and the Quad pack, as well as some of the expansions when they went on sale. I've also used points to buy the some more bag slots, shared storage, wardrobe slots and the premium wallet (vital!), since it seems like storage is always going to be an issue (I'm a bit of a hoarder).
I played pretty solid through last summer, but kind of got burned out when I got to Angmar. I've been following the main quest and just finished Chapter 6. I try to do any other quests whenever I visit a new location too. After I hit Angmar, I have mostly only been logging in during the festivals since they are the most fun to me, but I'm starting to get back into it.
I feel like there is so much I still don't know and it can be kind of overwhelming at times. I really consider myself a casual player. I don't know if I'll ever get to the level cap, and I'm not really very interested in end-game content. My favorite thing has probably been the festivals, especially getting new mounts. I use Horsey to randomize when I don't care what I ride, but have a dedicated slot for my Steed of the Unearthed Kingdom, since he has a 68% speed instead of the standard 62% (6% bonus - whohoo!)

I am enjoying the game, so don't take these as complaints, just kind of my current feelings about where I am in the game after a year playing, on and off (287 hours so far).

Here are some of the things I am still learning about or don't know anything about:

    Figments of Splendor
During the Spring Festival last month, I maxed out my Figments of Splendor. I didn't even know what they were, so I did a little research and bought a few mounts with them.

    Instances
During the Spring Festival, I also had to figure out how Instances work to do the Bees Big Business instance. I think the only other time I had tried to do instances were once in the Barrow Downs, and once in the Forsaken Inn. Both of them seemed impossible at the time, I would just die right away (I was soloing), so I kind of just forgot about instances. I figured out how to solo the Bees instance by lowering the level. I don't know if the other ones were adjustable or not, but they left a bad taste in my mouth.
For the Eriador Year 2 Trifles scavenger hunt, you're supposed to complete a bunch of instances. I couldn't even find them in the Instance finder. I've been looking at Fibro Jedi's guides, and they just skipped it too.
Is there really any reason to do instances at my level? I haven't had a great experience soloing them.

    Skirmishes
I did the Bree Skirmish tutorial quite a while ago, and then never did another skirmish again. As part of the scavenger hunt, there is a task to do 4 different ones. I had to Google just to figure out how to start it. I knocked the level down a little and it was pretty easy (I set it to 50 and I'm currently 59, so it was probably a little low). My soldier got stuck about half way through the skirmish, so I had to do the rest by myself. Looks like this is a semi-common issue on this particular skirmish (Trouble in Tuckborough).
I haven't gone through any effort to upgrade him, and I have about 10,000 Marks right now, so I should probably spend them.

    Legendary Items
I don't know much about this. What I do know is that you have to go to Moria to get started and I haven't gotten there yet. I watched a tutorial video on how they work, so I kind of get the concept now. It also seems like most festival rewards include Legendary Item experience. I assume it's just lost because I don't have any.
I recently got an item (a relic, I think) that says I need a Legendary Item to use it. Should I hang onto it, or just toss it for now? I feel like inventory space is always at a premium. Should I head to Moria to get started, or just wait until I get there naturally following the main story?

    Essences
I recently got an Essence as a reward from something. It says it can be slotted to an item, but I have absolutely no idea how this works. Are they also related to Legendary Items?

The LOTRO Wiki and Fibro Jedi's guides have been my best friends trying to figure out some of this stuff. I've considered joining a Kin, but I only play for a couple of hours a day, pretty late at night (between 10:00pm and 1:00am PST), so I don't know how involved I would really be. I'm on Crickhollow, by the way.

So that's kind of it. Like I said, I still enjoy the game. I just feel like I'm missing a lot sometimes too.

    State of the Game?

    Posted: 23 Apr 2021 04:57 PM PDT

Hi all. I played LOTRO during beta many years ago. What is the state of the game now, and is it worth picking up? I have access to my old account. Any idea if my character from beta will still be accessible?

    Client keeps crashing

    Posted: 23 Apr 2021 05:17 AM PDT

I have had this issue more and more over the last weeks. At first it only happened in loading screens but now the game just randomly crashes while I walk around etc., I tried both the steam version and the launcher from lotro.com, uninstalled the game twice and back again, I also tried running it as admin but it keeps happening. Any idea why?
