Posted: 17 Jul 2021 07:27 PM PDT I've played some LOTRO here and there for my share of time, and recently I got into playing more PvMP, because playing as a monster seemed pretty appealing as a new outlook to the game. I have to admit… I was a bit surprised. Nothing. The number of players doing nothing was really strange. Players standing around Grams/GV waiting for a warg/burglar to unstealth and for some easy PvP to fall into their lap. Whole groups of players jumping around waiting for someone of the other team to notice them instead of capturing the base they were right next to. (And trust me, it's the case for both sides) I also noticed that for a game (and a subreddit!) with unbelievably friendly players, the ettenmoors regional chat was very pessimistic, impatient, and sounded like no one was having fun. (Maybe that's what happens when you work for Mordor). Are these things connected? I can't help but think they are. Here's my theory why. The Ettenmoors is NOT PvP. It's capture the flag. Players play it for PvP, but it's capture the flag. The map is wayy too big for effective PvP, making player interactions few and far between. What's the solution? Well, I would think it's to play it like capture the flag. The only way to send a message to the other team is to capture a location. If you stick around, they might come after you! And if your team just lost a location, do yourself and the other team a favor and go try and get it back. To me, that sounds like a lot more interesting PvP than beating the crap out of new players as soon as they walk out of gramsfoot/GV. If you don't remember what it's like to play in the Ettenmoors with a character (on either team) with less than 10 audacity or whatever, it's a nightmare. You can't do anything without the help of several other people. So be a big brother and help the new guys out, they want to help they just can't :) If I had to suggest anything to the devs to make the Ettenmoors better, it would be to give a lot more (potentially worldwide) benefits for capturing locations to the freeps. More incentives for them, plus the monster players have a more fun, evil reason to try and take them from them. You need to make new players a little less weak, and make the map a little more interesting. I also think a lot of players would agree with me when I say you need to make freep play free. Or unlocked permanently after vip. Or maybe for like 300 LOTRO points you get permanent access. Not this Mithril coin for 6 hours stuff. That, maybe give free players 1 free monster play class of their choice, and I bet your would see the floodgates open of players joining in on the PvMP fun, making it much more, of course, fun. Playing LOTRO on the Steam Deck? Posted: 17 Jul 2021 07:02 AM PDT Ok, so by now you've probably heard of the upcoming Steam Deck. I thought this device looked pretty handy, myself. Thing is, the game in my Steam library that I play most often is lotro. I looked at the buttons on this thing and thought, "Would that even work?" Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Do you think we'll be able to play lotro on the go, or does the game have too many skill icons for that? š¤ [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Jul 2021 06:34 PM PDT Hi, I'm a new(ish) player, looking to return to the game after only ever playing for a month or so around the Moria expansion. Which server should I select? I generally like to play a lot of different characters, so I was thinking about Shadowfax to level quickly. Is the leveling very long? However, some people said it's likely to die quickly. Should I go Treebeard for a fresher start, or an older server for stability? [link] [comments]
How much would you pay for a lifetime membership? Posted: 17 Jul 2021 03:19 PM PDT They said that they would not offer it again, but if they did, what is the most that you would be willing to pay? [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Jul 2021 05:16 PM PDT This might be a bit of a different post from the usual end game focused one. I play LotRO extremely casually. I like to explore the world and do quests, I like to wear my Stone of the Turtle to keep me close to the level of the zone. But I'm having some trouble finding a playstyle I feel attached to currently. I've had some enjoyment with Guardian and Captain, and that's not unexpected, I'm a tank play in most MMOs I play. Something just feels like it's missing when I play them though. My primary MMO is EverQuest so anyone familiar with that game might be able to offer a bit more but. Things generally feel a bit slow? In EverQuest we started out with basically just auto attacks for melee, with a few melee having spells. These days there's a varying degree of button pressing on top of those auto attacks to make it feel more modern and button-filled. In LotRO I feel like I'm missing buttons and having to stand there waiting. I'm guessing part of the problem is that I'm just spending too much time at lower levels, rotations fill out as you get higher and you're supposed to hit the afterburners to at least get to the 60s. But there's a lot of content to get through in the 30s and 40s and it just starts to feel kind of boring and dull. Maybe Response skills just also aren't for me, sometimes I feel like I get chains of 8 Block/Parry responses on the Guardian, and other times I don't get a single one. I know there are talents like Sting causing them or Force Opening to help alleviate this but it still just feels odd at times and inconsistent. So I'm looking for a class that really just feels consistent in its damage. A gentle winding river of consistent DPS rather than a raging rapid of burst DPS. Are there any classes that more or less fit this bill? I'm not looking for a flatline of DPS, I understand ramp up time, resource building and usage and things of that nature, but I'd rather something that's less buff (Captain Readiness/Hardened) or Response (Guardian/Captain) centered. Class type doesn't overly matter, obviously I lean towards tanks, but really I never group, so it doesn't matter much if I'm spending all of my time questing. Thanks for any insights you guys can offer! [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Jul 2021 10:32 AM PDT Hello! I am planning on returning but i liked pvp monster play. Is there any active monster play server? I logged into Landroval and it was empty ( maybe it is because of time) Thank you! [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Jul 2021 09:57 AM PDT So there's any way of checking the legendary servers population? I thinking in start to play again and the new servers are appealing but I don't want to start a new character in a dead server or if is going to soon or later [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Jul 2021 11:25 AM PDT I am a returning player, dipping my toes in after years of being gone. I haven't played since just after Rohan. Does anyone do Monster Play (PVP) anymore? It seems dead on Crickhollow. What about on Treebeard? [link] [comments]
Long time viability of legendary servers? Posted: 17 Jul 2021 07:40 AM PDT This has probably been asked. Looking to get back into the game and wondering which server I should choose? I was thinking about one of the RP servers for the community, but the new difficulty really intrigued me. Because of this, I was wondering if I were to make one of the new servers my main server is that viable long term or will it flake out and people go back to their original server. Obviously this is hard to know for sure but I was curious how other legendary servers did long term wise before the most recent two? [link] [comments]
