A very long read ahead. Thank you kindly in advance.

The North Downs. Fires in the North. Northern Spirit and Priceless memories of haunted fields Fornost, Refuge of the Elivsh settlement of Melunien, Plains of Esteldin, Dreaded Dol Dinen ,Terrible Nan Warthen with countless of Elite Orcs, Goblins, Imposingly striking entrance of Angmar in Eastern Nan Amlug with mighty carved Statues, Earth-kin, Dwarven town of Othrikar, Gorgeous Plains of Kingsfell ,Mysteries and lore surrounding Second age. Glimmering town of Trestlebridge that stands firm in constant barrage from local Orc Tribes. Entering was epic, questing was glorious and players were first greeted in my opinion truly dangerous zone that is but an intro for Angmar in which later on players will countinue their journey. The biggest zone by playable scale, Mid level zone with a perfect balance of Solo- Small/Large group emphasis back at the day of the release notably - Bear in mind that I speak when I first started playing.

Visually and Aesthetically North Downs may not appear now as something ground-breaking, but if you peer more closely the zone is simple yet wide open, no so much complicated to navigate with an option to roam solo and partake by doing quests that not related to Nan-Warthen, Dol Dinen or Fields of Fornost for instance - I loved the canyon and iconic bridge of Trestlebridge obvious name is it not? It combined open plains, forested areas, mountains ,canyons, little hills, plains, meadows, lakes and awe inspiring views in such a complete package. It seemed little went very long way. It had something for anyone. It was not depressing ,dark ,gloomy and immensely challenging as Angmar - it added places of men, dwarves and Elves in scattered locations so each race felt they do play important part and role in protecting Middle-Earth and defending the border with Bree-land and Evendim. The Fornost instance was a "little-big" wonder often shunned because of its vastness and "tediousness" of the Elder days before they dismantled it into 4 wings. Fornost Fortress ,Lore, Visuals, Enemy design and attention to detail there was stunning and very memorable for a 2007 player indeed. Even introduction before entering and that headless statue and menacing Death Bears still haunt me in my dreams with Untold number of enemy forces. Vile Barghests, Evil Spirits and near perfect sound score in Combat or landscape {default} flows flawlessly capturing further atmospheric feel and engrossing, captivating Immersion to another level. As I have stated before should you skip and do not like ,Yea proceed to open plains, hills of of Nan Amlug West to visit Dwarves, proceed to border of Nen Harn and enjoy company with Elves ,for daring adventures to enter Troll infested forest of Taur Gon Waith and infamous Massive camps of Dol Dinen that were primary stage of Forces of Angmar to launch an invasion to Southern Eriador. Venture North to greet bizarre folk of Earth-kin. Explore Woodland area of Nan Amlug East and vanquish Hill-men Guarding the terrible entrance to the land of the Witch king with striking Statues of Angmarim,Turn to West and find entrance to Esteldin hidden hope in heart of North-downs with your fellow rangers which is overflowing with lore, quests and a centre of Epic books and basically your safe haven. Far from overcrowded Bree and other towns, Esteldin was just about perfect ,open with smart use of space and separate crafting halls and thank the Vala no Auction house which significantly reduced crowd and distrubance. Ride through plains of Kingsfeel, conquer Nan-Wathen in deepest reaches, eradicte Warg threat and Goblin vermin in Annudir - Pay attention to ruins and Lore surrounding North downs which is heavily connected to Arnor. I shan't spoil the details. North-Downs always felt relaxing and extremely versatile, It always kept my intrigue and interest and I would never skip it. Twas beyond Epic and and a near pinnacle of creation of what LOTRO once was with a proper Landscape Difficulty as well offering a clear choice of what to do and proceed. Challenging but not hard content ,Truly epic in every sense. Orc Invasions, Wraiths of Fornost, Angmar's shadows forever at the doorstep, hidden hope in centre, Courageous folk, yet all that before entering Mountains Ram Duath and facing off Mighty Drakes and Drake Queen and then coming there and back again to Esteldin to tell the tells of thy triumph. Splendid. North Downs has so many memories. It has a place when players forged their friendships, they battled in sweat and blood, I met so many players there ,bonds were created and community was so much more friendly in those old times. I happily look at ND that was one of the core regions which in my opinion made Lord of the Rings online so incredibly iconic and was an crucial important ,almost critical build up and staging ground for Angmar and later on Evendim and Forcohel but they were added in future updates that were very great regions on their own ,but North Downs is above and always will be for me.I still recall going on the foot by Green-way and peeking at the distance at ruins of Fornost from camp from Mincham's camp. It was so extraordinarily interesting because all of it was new and never shown before, these regions such are North dows, Angmar, Evendim,Forochel, very little was said in books and other works therefore having them combined with unofficial lore in virtual world was something mind blowing in every sense , in particular 13-15 years ago. I have wrote thread with utter passion that came from my memory, experience and countless of hours spent in LOTRO since start ,especially back when I first played with multiple characters ,not today, not yesterday or 10 years ago, but in 2007 and 2008. Ai! The fog of war and one notable thing why it felt so long that you did not had inter connecting fast travel options , you had to manually travel or travel automatically but you could sight see more and journey in entirety felt much more complete too ,With all that said ,there was no Store,No Mithirl or even mount for some folk. All was much more limited and scarce ,often forcing players to improvise, learn their class, call for aid and most importantly- patience that was a sole virtue of player back and whoever triumphed in Original LOTRO always remained as firm, very experienced , knowledgeable, hard as nails and old school player that usually rearely complained later on. I could go on as well and mayhaps break down some quests or maybe I will remember more but I wished to stated my sincere opinion and just to give everyone advice for end, Learn ,appreciate and try to get most of each zone. Do not rush and focus on Story, Lore , explore every location and be persistent in a detailed manner. It took me very long time to see and do all I wanted and only after massively accumulated experience and comparison I decided to share it with rest of community. Sorry for typos , North Downs questing was so smooth and went on as a breeze and I cannot wait to pack my backpack with Lembas and visit Rangers again to sit down and just stare in mountains and local forest while being absorbed by mystical Soundtrack -

Of Glories Long past - of North Downs and Ancient Days of LOTRO by Llimbairdhielof of Landroval {US} I was once in Elder days also known as Meluniel too and I had plenty of other names.

Should you wish you may contact me in game and we can discuss more on my Secondary character Champion - "Limbformstariel" as well. She is level 50. And please by Orome and Valier do not skip the North downs region.

P.S. It was not a fully complete breakdown. I surely missed something and I have not had enough time to finish my statement. - Do add more if you like on what is your dearest memory and so on... I am extremely passionate player and I love to pay attention to details and let us I became very fond of some places, characters and I surely do deeply miss old game for it shall eternally live in my mind and happily watching some of the older videos, screenshots and I can not express how immensely grateful I am truly. I had a privilege to experience LOTRO since the day one.

P.S.S Willing to explore my YT channels do contact me!

    Sincerely ,

May thy path ever be Star-lit and Golden.

A bold take on class balance. Two Trait lines.

    Posted: 14 Jun 2021 10:00 AM PDT

Disclaimer: I know this has been done to death, but I haven't seen a lot of talk about this possible change to balance, 2 trait lines.

    The spark:

With the upcoming Brawler class, and the inevitable class balancing that will likely come after it, I want to suggest dropping a trait line on every spec, and blending in the most useful talents into one of the other remaining trait lines. This would extend the trait lines making it so getting to the end of one requires more points invested.

To me the only reason LOTRO has three trait lines is because....that's what other mmo's do? For some classes like Captain and Beoring three lines makes sense IN THEORY.

However, even when you look at games like WOW, or SWTOR one of the trees on a three role character is almost always a "dead" tree. Ret Pallies, Cat or Balance Druids (TBC).

So lets cut down on the work for new players, Devs, and the company by dropping a trait line. This would allow class balance to revolve around the Primary/Secondary roles that were envisioned with the introduction of trait lines. Primary roles would be min-max and standard for high difficulty raids, while secondary provide a option for raids who want to fill slots, or a nice out of the box option.

    • Secondary roles can also provide opportunities to make certain encounters require secondary tanks/healers/supports to beat the mechanics.

    The changes:

    1. Beorning - Healing/Tank. To me this is what they excel at anyway and a class with no dps line would be unique to most other mmo's
    2. Brawler - Tank/DPS.
    3. Burglar - DPS Single/Debuff. This is basically the standard now, just mix in some gambles to each line, cc oriented ones to yellow, self heals to red (or visa versa).
    4. Captain - Tank/Support. The healing line is dead right now anyway and a support line can blend some light dps in with healing.
    5. Champion - DPS AOE/Single. This will be controversial, but I like the idea of champs doing aoe or single, and with the brawler class coming in we don't need more tanks.
    6. Guardian - Tank/Debuff. While I say debuff, I mean an off tank that can debuff multiple targets with minor debuffs, this would make it a desired add or mobs tank.
    7. Hunter - DPS Single/Moving. Not much to say here, with Burgs/LM taking the primary debuff role, another DPS class would be great, the moving line would be good for dodging boss mechanics.
    8. Loremaster - Debuff/Support. Make the blue line a support tree, with the pet providing minor off tanking, and raid buffs Alternative is to make the pet line a DPS line.
    9. Minstrel - Healing/Support. I know, hitting things with the power of song is sweet, but a dedicated healing class would be nice, and play opposite the new guardian concept.\
    10. Rune-Keeper - Healing/DPS. I want this class to fully realize it's DoT potential. Let it be the heal and DPS over time king, with power manipulation (giving in the DPS tree, and taking in the healing one.
    11. Warden - DPS/Support. Another controversial pick, I'd love to see wardens tank line, turn into the king off off-tanking, able to grab and hold multiple weaker mobs, while providing self healing.

    Concerns:

I know that there will be people who reject this idea simply because their favourite trait line has been "cut". However, I want to point out I'm not suggest the removal of traits, just the reallocation of them into one of the two trees. This would mean that your favourite line is more fleshed out and viable.

I also believe that a move to two trait lines will make it much easier to balance in the future. With Devs only having to worry about two roles/trait lines, it becomes simpler to manage, is the primary line not doing its job? tinker with it. Devs no longer have to try and make three lines feel viable.

    Support:

I would like to mention before closing that this is one persons ideas on how we can manage, and improve class balance. For a two trait line idea to work in any form it needs support from others. More than support it needs help, please leave comments stating what you think works or doesn't work and why. If two trait lines seems like madness then lets come together and state why we value three lines and some ways we can balance them.

This is a big change but I think it would be a healthy one, for the players, Devs, and future success of this amazing game. I hope this gives everyone something fun to think about and consider!

Forgive the eyeroll but.... this lag, guys...

    Posted: 14 Jun 2021 11:02 AM PDT

Let me know if I'm missing something here because as it is, I cannot continue this game.

I returned after a couple of years just the other day. I'm now unable to do anything essentially because my game keeps freezing and I just don't have the patience to deal with it happening every 30 seconds (at the least!). My internet is more than sufficient (we stream multiple things simultaneously including gaming) and my laptop runs other heavy games more than fine, so it's not my computer. I've read debates on it being servers or not but it's obviously the servers. Surely this is not just an 'it is what it is' thing because it's unplayable this way. Does it just happen sometimes super frequently like this and then you'll get bouts of playability? What can I do here other than give up and not play? Thanks for any insight; tried to do my due diligence and look for any recent commentary on it to see if it's something already being addressed. šŸ’œ

I'm looking for a kinship on Gladden

    Posted: 14 Jun 2021 12:08 PM PDT

I'm a level 53 Elf Hunter, And I'm finding it harder and harder to go it alone. I'm a weaponsmith, and I have an alt who is a jeweler. I'm a mellow, middle aged married woman and I live in Ireland. I'm not the fastest player and I have a lot to learn, but I love the game and play pretty much daily.
