Monetisation killed this game for me Posted: 30 Jul 2020 02:36 AM PDT I loved LoTRO back on release. I played it for years, obsessively, and I love both the story and the atmosphere of the game. Memories of Bree are my single best gaming memories - the nostalgia, the sense of fellowship. I remember spending 4 hours on a Sunday optimising my route around the Trollshaws to mine dwarf-iron. I know it's never popular to come into a subreddit and stick the boot in, but what happened? I picked up the game again and it felt incredibly familiar. The combat is fast and slick. Sure, the graphics are looking a little rough around the edges, but I can live with that. I really enjoyed doing the starting questlines again before being dumped into the big wide world. But then it hit me. Pick up your crafting profession - in store purchases shoved down your face. Look at your traits - in store purchases shoved down your face. Open any character menu - a link to the shop, with more instore purchases. Riding? Ah, you gotta use the ingame store for that now. No more scimping and saving to find the gold to get it. People tell me you don't need to engage with this and you can enjoy the game with a VIP subscription like the old days, but its prominence just ruins the game for me. I feel like I'm playing my favourite game from my youth, except some huckster is tapping on my shoulder every two seconds and reminding me that if I just opened my wallet a little, things could be quicker and easier. For a game which always tried to be true to the lore - an honest representation of Middle Earth - it feels like a long way to fall. It's funny, because the content is still great - but there's no way I can play it. I guess I just pine for a private server for the game in the old days, or LoTRO Classic. Charge me 15 bucks a month - I don't care - but then let me enjoy a clean game. Two cents from an excited, then deflated, returner. [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Jul 2020 02:55 PM PDT LOTRO is a great game, even more than a decade after release. But, there have been a lot of problems lately with things that are not the gameplay itself; in-game chat, server stability and login issues, SSG's lack communication for multiple weeks, the store, questions about compensation for current Subscribers, and the list goes on. SSG acquired the responsibility for this game in 2017 and has done a decent job of keeping it alive. Earlier this year they made a great decision to make a lot of the content free through next month to entice new players during a unique period outside of Middle-Earth, and have even offered a huge discount for multiple weeks now for the quest packs. All of this encourages new players to check out the game, and may reward other players who are just now getting to the levels required to try out that content. During all of these severe problems, most of us have kept our subscriptions active and many of us players continue to support the game through the store (when it works). I think it's time to reward current players for their dedication to this game and to SSG's ongoing development of LOTRO by offering something equally severe: a lifetime subscription again for a significant but reasonable price. 1) This would not punish current lifetime pass holders as they would retain all of their benefits and still have all of the LOTRO points and exclusive things they've collected since their adoption of the original lifetime pass offering. 2) By increasing the price of the lifetime pass to something appropriate for 2020/2021, SSG would obtain a large influx of cash from current month-to-month subscribers as well as new players interested in LOTRO but not the subscription model. 3) the microtransaction store would not be affected in any way by offering this both for SSG and the active player, and might even receive a bump in player interest and spending 4) From a business standpoint, SSG could use to gather back some of the good will they had from players a couple months ago as well as collect an advance cash reserve, as there is the looming threat of WoW's new expansion as well as Amazon's upcoming New World MMO. 5) As players, it would give us the opportunity to tell SSG that despite the numerous recent failures and breakdowns in communication, we trust that they will fix things and continue developing good things for LOTRO for a long time to come. I believe that if SSG does not sufficiently satisfy whatever crisis in faith that players are having because of the deficit in SSG's leadership and communication, then LOTRO is going to lose a lot of medium-term subscribers (1-3 years) as well as new players that came to check it out in the last 3+ months but aren't receiving a good first impression of SSG's competence and leadership. Any feedback or other ideas and debate are welcome and appreciated, and if anyone wants to x-post this to SSG's official forum that is okay. [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 Jul 2020 01:25 PM PDT What are some suggestions for someone just starting out? Is there a quick way to focus on leveling up? Like just doing main story stuff, or anything? Anything to work on while leveling up? Easy way to get into dungeons and such? Is dungeon/mob grinding efficient? Just curious for any general pointers for a new player. Thanks! =) [link] [comments]

In how many hours does the Valar sale end ? Posted: 29 Jul 2020 10:55 PM PDT I have like 2450 points accrued over time and I want to know if it'll be possible for me to grind the 550 LP I need for a level 95 boost with the time remaining. Some will say to buy the 600 LP and be done with it, but I can't afford to spend money on something like this at the moment as I'm on a tight budget due to being left without a job due to COVID-19. Posted: 30 Jul 2020 01:29 AM PDT Level 58 Hunter, came back just before lockdown and picked up my old Elf Hunter @ Lvl 40, I looked at my old kin and realised it had been 2/3 years since any of them had been active so left Since then been solo'ing through Eriador and currently in Moria, and thinking it would be good to join a kin to do raids and such with. Any recommendations? Also apart from doing raids, crafting, meet-ups for concerts outside the prancing pony, what are some other benefits of kins? Thanks [link] [comments]
Getting back all the stuff that was in my house (returning player) Posted: 29 Jul 2020 12:31 PM PDT So after a long time re-logged on my Landroval character. It`s been years so I guess the house is gone. How do I get all my stuff back? Housing Escrow is where your items go when you lose a house through foreclosure or abandonment. All of the items in your house (decorations and items in the housing chests) will be placed into your Housing Escrow upon abandonment or foreclosure of a house. To retrieve your items, visit a Vault-Keeper (Escrow Broker) and choose the 'Access Housing Escrow' option. --------------- Apologies if this has been asked before, English is not my first language so might be missing something obvious. Posted: 29 Jul 2020 02:38 PM PDT I'm coming back to the game after a really long absence, so I wanted to start a fresh character. I was wondering for Beorning Red line DPS, should I be switching in and out of bear form quite frequently? At the moment I'm only level 15, so bear form seems to do very little damage compared to man form. The only bear form that I have right now worth using seems to be Bash. Bear form probably becomes much more impressive when I finally get to filling out all the talents. Am I correct in this assumption? [link] [comments]
Lotro discord overlay not working? Posted: 29 Jul 2020 11:04 AM PDT Hiyall, for some reasom even when enabled discord overlay does not show in lotro, even in admin mode.. anyone that can help with this? [link] [comments]
Slotted equipment while leveling. Posted: 29 Jul 2020 09:50 AM PDT I'm currently level 104 on my main and I just started receiving and being able to craft slotted armor. When I look at many of the essences I loot (tier 7) it does not seem like the stats will add up to being better than quest armor. Am I missing something or is slotted armor something for the end game and not for leveling? [link] [comments]

A question on level 100 LI's and Fragments Posted: 29 Jul 2020 10:02 AM PDT So I just hit level 100 and am now hunting for the supplies to craft my 2 level 100 Hunter FA LI's. The whole level 100 LI structure is super confusing to me at the moment, and I'm even having trouble finding the materials to craft them. I'm trying to acquire legendary fragments, but dont know how to best go about it. I tried buying a level 65 class LI from the auction house and using a scroll of delving to raise it to 70, then deconning it after I maxed it out. I still received no fragments unfortunately. Am I doing something wrong? What is the best way to go about acquiring legendary fragments? [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Jul 2020 11:39 AM PDT I have several chars (a hunter, a ministrel, a captain, a champion and a loremaster) but i dont know which line to pick on each of them. [link] [comments]
Are fire rune keepers any good? Thoughts on balance? Posted: 29 Jul 2020 07:37 AM PDT Hi guys I thought I'd try reddit as the recent forum posts on the website seem super salty (although there's some super friendly and constructive people on there too!). Is it true that rune keepers are significantly lagging behind other dps classes? I am really new and saw the newer race of dwarves has 3 percent extra fire damage which seems pretty cool. I thought I might make one and try rune keepers out but I have no clue if they're even slightly viable at the later stages of the game. I started as a guardian but I kept being told they're a waste of time and to play hunter or burglar lol. The more I read about this game the more I feel confused! I just know from previous MMOs it's good to play what you enjoy, but also to put time into a class that will serve you well in terms of enjoyment, but also capability. So far the gist I've gotten about balancing in this game from the forums is that captain is op, guardian needs something, taunt timers at 30 seconds takes out decision making for tanks (upcoming patch?), champion needs a little bit of something, hunters are very strong and quite a popular class, rune keepers are lagging behind dps, everyone hates burglars and think they're op but they're rank 3 ish for damage and are a melee class, warden is something I shouldn't touch cause my ping sucks. What's left? Healers/supports? But then I'll struggle with solo content apparently. Ahhhhhhhhhhh I'm not saying what I've written above is factual btw, this is strictly what I've read and heard. I just hate the idea of spending time money and effort to find out I'll never be able to do late game stuff. I understand by the time I get there the game may/most likely will of changed a lot, but I'd love at least a good chance of being useful to a team! Thanks for reading this rambling post. I'm just very eager to play but at the same time so confused lol [link] [comments]
What’s the overall state of the yellow line guardian right now? Posted: 29 Jul 2020 02:03 AM PDT Trying to level my guard, and I really enjoy the yellow line while solo'ing content. I'm just afraid I might invest too much in the line only to find out it's not really a viable build going into the endgame. Some perspective would be appreciated. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
