ARKENSTONE: Old time boomer looking for a casual Kinship

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 08:44 AM PST

Hey folks... I'm looking for a casual, social guild (kinship) on Arkenstone server. I'm in my 40s and don't have a competitive MMORPG bone in my body. I've played LOTRO since launch, but never got very far on any of my characters.

I do have a very good Kinship on Ithil (a Legendary server), and they're very friendly and helpful, but a) they're all much further along than I am, and b) the server population is dwindling.

I'm the kind of player who wants to see an active group in Bree, outside the Prancing Pony! I've deduced that Arkenstone is the most populated USA server... I have a level 4 Burglar and I'm about to trek my way through Archet/Comb/Staddle and make it to Bree... but I'd love to find a good sized casual guild to help me along on my journey!

I appreciate any recommendations and, if everything works out right, I can't wait to contribute in any way I can! Thank you.

Boring question - class for semi-casual

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 05:17 PM PST

    Good evening!

I currently have a few level 60s on Brandywine (don't plan on moving servers) and have a question on classes. I am looking for a class that can do fellowship/maybe some raid content but not have to be hardcore.

The 3 I really have been enjoying are guardian yellow line, captain red line, and burglar ( he is red line right now, was my only character until I resubbed a month ago so still trying to relearn it)

Are any of these more favorable for small group play first and foremost, potential for raid eventually? Would love to talk in depth if needed!

Overland I tend to solo and take my time and get into the lore. Sorry if this is a bit spacy, just trying to collect my thoughts and hope I asked the questions appropriately.

Returning player, wondering if I can still access my old characters

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 06:36 AM PST

Hi everyone, getting back into lotro with some freinds after not playing since 2012, and I've been trying to work out if I can still get my old characters off Elendilmir? The website says the transfers from the old servers are going to be indefinite, but using the transfer option in the launcher like it suggests, shows no such option to transfer from Elendilmir etc.

Is there any race that appears better for a new Minstrel? Thanks

What is the nature of Light-damage?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 10:03 AM PST

Ok, so I was thinking about the guy with the minstrel, and my preconception that light damage attacks are magical, and not metaphorical. But I can't find an attack that is Light-damage, which can't be explained logically, not even needing the crutch of metaphore. As far as I understand, light damage is something you do that makes the dark forces get scared and get more damage, or something that boosts your party's morale. So, if this is the nature of Light-damage, then it is absolutely plausible that even non-magic wielders can use it, as it requires you only to be able to sing an epic song and rouse your troops, or yell Elbereth, and watch the enemy cower before the name. The class being based on a magical Elf is kinda misleading, but the rest is plausible, unless we can find some skill that undisputably requires a magic wielder.

Too bad the wiki is really hard to navigate if you want to research this stuff..

[Request] An up-to-date list of most popular kinships on each server, with their recruitment message and name of recruitment officer.

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 04:30 AM PST

Wouldn't it be great? Then everyone could pick a kinship they like the sound of, and which isn't dead or has 5 people in it.

    Suggestion:

Mods make some kind of post where recruiters can post info in a standardized format (Server, Name, Recruitment Message, Contact Officer, Other info if needed). These are top level comments.

Then, people can comment under those about their experiences or ask questions

When the post is closed, the mods can post a tabular summary of the kinships and put it in the "starter guide"

    EZPZ

This would also take care of "which kinship should I join" posts (though, I have nothing against them)

Need help finding ABC songs for Song book

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 04:40 AM PST

    Hello,

I've used the way back machine archive tool and tried to mine the fat lute for songs but the links simply arent working for me. So I am looking for single instrument (lute) songs. I would like to increase my catalog of Led Zepplin and Grateful dead solo pieces.

I'ts been so long since I looked for songs in lotro, I have songbook but the sources for songs I am finding on google arent great.

Anyone out there help an old bard?
