The one day I take off of work to play LOTRO....

    New Player Essentials

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 02:51 PM PST

Getting into the LOTRO without getting a subscription can be a daunting task. I myself have just gotten back and this is what I've gathered so far. Hope it helps newcomers! Any feedback is welcome and I'll keep updating it with your input.

    Here we go!

    - Don't spend money right away. Relax and enjoy the game until you are up to level 25+ / Lone Lands.

    - If you made it to level 25, congrats! You're into the game and it makes sense to star shelling out some cash.

    - Now you need to unlock quest packs that give you access to higher-level missions, helping you to get from level 30 to 50. Here are 3 ways you can do this:

    1. Go VIP for a month. During this time you'll have access to said quests. Try to run through it to get to level 50, or sub more months.
    2. Buy two quests packs - people usually recommend Evendim (which you can get stand-alone or through the Steely Dawn pack) and Angmar. But there are other options just as good.
    3. You can buy the Quest Pack Bundle which essentially includes the whole "vanilla" game (as in, the original game experience when it came out)

    - After doing so, you can move on to the Moria expansion. The best way to get this is to buy the Quad Pack which includes the first 4 DLC's. CheapPunk is usually referenced as a good place to shop for this.

    - It is also a good idea do sub for a month at some point so you can unlock several things in your account such as:

    1. More character slots
    2. No Gold Limit
    3. Swift Travel
    4. More inventory space

    - As far as I know, from there on out you just keep buying new expansions and enjoying the ride. You'll also have extra quest packs you can purchase.

Recommendation: Try waiting for special discounts on the official store or searching different game websites for the best deals when getting something for LOTRO. You can almost always find a good price on this and that.

A person interested in picking up the game.

Just a few questions though, fairly sure common ones.

What is the size of the player base?

    Most active server?

    Most active RP server?

Haven't played since 2013, any quick tips or pointers you have to catch me up with any major changes?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 07:48 AM PST

Hey all, I used to play a ton back when Moria first dropped all the way through Rohan (when they stopped doing raids) and I cleared everything from Mirkwood to the three raids in Rohan all T2C and then went off and played FFXIV until fairly recently.

My main was a Guard and alt'd on Hunter and RK so I'm starting a Guard again since it seems like they can actually do some decent champ-ish DPS and my goal is to level him from 1-85 to where I left off on my original character, relearn the ropes, try to wrap my head around gear and legendaries and the skill trees and everything else that's changed over the years, then continue on with my original Guard through whatever the max level/area is now.

If anyone has any tips or pointers for a returning player, or tips for new Guardian players, I'd appreciate it.

Side note, I originally bought the lifetime VIP sub forever ago so I have like 37,000+ turbine store tokens or whatever they are now, so if there is anything that would be useful in there, let me know (was eyeing the +78% mount speed but not sure if that's worth it when everything is already 68%).

Bored? Can't Think of What to Do While Lotro is Down?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 06:05 PM PST

Toss out some links to sites you've gone too that relate to Lotro! Have you ever been to Lotro Artists yet? Or browsed through Laurelin Archives or Crickhollow Music? How about thinking up your next elven name at Parf Edhellen?

Any places y'all go to that might be of interest to Lotro players?

If you're waiting to play like me, post some lotro stories in here to pass the time. I'm a new player, at lv. 18 currently. Feel free to share tips also.

    Question about Combat Analysis plugin

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 01:56 PM PST

I thought this plugin would work like Recount/Skada (wow addons) but it is only showing my dps. Is that the way it is, or can you make it show everyone's numbers in the raid/fellowship group?

Question about update 25.1.1 release notes:

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 01:18 PM PST

    The patch notes include this:

Crafting and Task Carry-alls can once again be destroyed if they are empty and in your inventory.

The question is why would you want to destroy a carry-all? any carry-all?
